I'm expanding my business and need to add more writers to my team. If you're a ghostwriter and can write fiction (particularly romantic fiction), please get in touch.

Criteria:

2. A native writer
3. Reads a lot of fiction
4. A good fiction writer
5. Can follow instructions and you're willing to take corrections
6. Understand what it means to be a ghostwriter

Pay

For now, I pay $200 for 10,000 words.

If you're interested please send me a chapter of something you've written to sharon [at] fictionblueprints [dot] com

Please give me at least 3 days to get back to you. My hands are full at the moment.

Thank you,
Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Your offer of $200 for 10,000 words fiction writing is too less. I am not giving a quote because I charge much more than what you offered.

Regards
Krish

Hi Sharon,

Yesterday, I stumbled upon a job post on Craigslist that offers $800.00 for a 10,000-word urban fiction story. I won't criticize your offer because that's your budget and only those who are willing to work at that rate are the ones who are welcome to apply.

Have you also tried posting this on freelancing sites like oDesk? Try it. That way, you'll have many candidates to choose from.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I already have a team of first rate writers who have been accepted for publishing by traditional publishers, so no, I'm not looking at odesk, although I'm sure there are quality writers there . We are currently inundated with work so we need to expand.

Thank you for not criticizing my offer, I hope you stumble on more offers like the Craigslist offer.

Thanks,
Sharon

Hi Sharon,

If you remember I once reviewed your fiction story. You are an excellent writer yourself. The fiction story which you wrote and I reviewed was such a gripping and thrilling story. I must say you are one of the very few Best Fiction Story Writers available today.

All the very best in your efforts.

Regards

Your request is interesting -- I'm a ghostwriter. Well, I have been a ghostwriter for years and have segued into ghostwriting fiction only. I have dozens of ghostwritten books on Kindle but -- and this is the point of my post -- what does a person do when asked to submit samples of their ghostwriting?

The books I have written belong to my clients so I cannot use them.

Welcome to the Warrior Forum!

I ghostwrote a children's alphabet book, and I received permission to use portions (one or two pages) for my portfolio.

When I wrote first chapters for some novels, I gave the publisher all rights. But I asked them if I could use the publications as samples in my portfolio, and they said OK. They wanted the publicity because they were new. If you gave up all rights to the books because you wrote for Harlequin, Penguin, or some big name, that MAY include using portions in a portfolio.

Is there any way you can get permission to post the links themselves to the books on Kindle, or maybe screenshots of the book covers? If you can get a Word doc together, or a page on your website, or what have you, that may work. Something like "Titles/Genres I've Ghostwritten Include..."

Samples are basically part of the "risk-reversal-why-the-heck-should-I-do-business-with-you" thing. If you can set yourself apart another way, you may not need samples. Your experience in your niche comes to mind (to ghostwrite for years, and THEN segue into fiction exclusively, that's serious credentials. And to have DOZENS of titles--I think most writers I know would want to be you.)

I suppose, as a last resort, that telling prospective clients "I've ghostwritten but I'm under contract not to share" was met with some resistance? There's a lot of posts about "overcoming objections" or "overcoming resistance" that you can apply to your situation. Try searching for posts about ghostwriting as well. You might also try posting your concerns in the Copywriting Forum--copywriters deal with the sample thing all the time.

That's my $.02. I'm not a golden goose or anything--just take my advice for a spin, and if it doesn't work for you, that's fine.

Not a lot of fiction folks running around here. Maybe they're still in the woodwork. Either way, thanks for dropping by.

I saw you're a War Room member. I think that might give you access to the Kindle forum here. They might be the best to help you out.

Thank you for the kind words!!! I could indeed ask for permission. Then I realized -- DUH -- I have a Kindle novel in my own name.

It's nice to be welcomed here... I kind of faded away in the dream world of fiction and have not been around much lately.

Hi, thanks for posting here. I had no sample for several years and decided to write a romance novella and publish it on kindle as a sample...well guess what? it got accepted by Harlequin and will be published soon under my pen name. So I know where you're coming from. That said, if you are interested, please send me a mail and maybe you can write a chapter of something for me?

Thanks again for getting in touch.

hello Sharon,

I am very interested in working with you, so long as I could retain some samples of my works for my portfolio. I have been told I am a gifted writer, but have no verifiable proof of that ability, beyond compliments from some who have read my short fiction and poems. Your offer of 200 for 10,000 words has me a bit curious about how many pages that translates to. often, when I am given an idea or inspiration, I can complete something within a couple of days. Since I am not yet published or recognized as a true talent, your offer could be a great starting point for me. If my talents do justify greater rewards, I will still be appreciative to you for giving me my first professional credential. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?
I am also very interested in the comments and suggestions I see from other posters here regarding writing and submitting to Kindle. is that lucrative? or just something done for leisurely exposure??
I will submit a sample of my writing to your e-mail you mention in your post.

Hope to help others is offline   Reply With Quote

Not to be mean, but is the economy so bad that published authors are willing to write 10,000 words for $200?

I don't know about that one. OP, I hope you're prepared for all the editing you'll have to do .

For someone that truly loves to write fiction, that's too much money. Regardless, I'm sure your PM is blowing up right now.

I realized that I have my Kindle novel and I can send you that as a sample....I'm not going to add the link here but it's called Going Home Again. I am so used to ghostwriting, I actually forgot that one of the books WAS mine.
