Facebook To Change Plans On Advertiser Data

Facebook has rarely changed their policies based upon advertiser requests. Facebook recently ran into strong opposition from mobile app advertisers and have decided to halt device level data collection component for mobile advertising applications when sharing data on performance levels. Instead, Facebook will limit data that is available to application campaigns and advertisement data levels. This was originally intended to go into effect on August 20th but has been postponed to Nov. 4th. Facebook has made these changes even with the fact that they believe there is no value in the information. Of all the advertisers on Facebook, it has been game developers who have been at the forefront of this challenge.

Why Game Makers Are Opposed To Data Collection

Data-makers were opposed to this change due to the fact that is no longer allows them to optimize their specific campaigns through various networks and media sources. Regardless, Facebook wants to keep advertisers happy and spending money on their platform. Facebook wants advertisers to use what they call app people based data, which enables advertisers to monitor not only devices but people. Facebook does not believe that data collection will help to optimize their campaigns. However, there are advertisers who spend millions of dollars a month on ads and Facebook is doing what they can to keep those ads running on their platform.

Facebook wants advertisers to continue to monitor people and not just the device as they believe that is more powerful and helpful to a healthy campaign.
