Have you ever heard of Pareto Principle? Don’t worry if you haven't, you are not alone.

My name is Faith and in this article I am going to talk how this simple rule changed my life and how it can change yours. I have been unknowingly studying the principle for the last three years when I was trying to set up an online business. I was a broke depressed graduate who was trying to land a job in a good company getting nothing but rejections. I had a great education but no skills yet. This is a typical and extremely frustrating experience for most of the graduates. During that time I lost about 22 pounds in weight due to stress. Then I came across something that changed my life. That time I did not know it was called the Pareto Principle or 80/20 rule. Three years ago I started selling products online and had a bit of success but it was not very big. I was able to sell enough products to cover the initial investment but then I hit a “BRICK WALL”.
What is that brick wall that many of us hit when we try to achieve our goals and follow our dreams?

I call it the “Pareto effect”. Let me explain.

How does it work?

Pareto principle was named after Italian Economist named (of course) Vilfred Pareto. Vilfred planted peas in several pods and noticed that 20% of peapods produced 80% of peas. Also, he noticed that this pattern kept repeating itself in everything in life. For instance, 80% of Italian population owned 20% of land (and it is still like that today). 20% of clouds were responsible for 80% of rain. We normally wear only 20% or clothes that are in our wardrobe. Only 20% of students excel in school. In corporate world 20% of customers are responsible for 80% of sales and 20% of sales staff are responsible for 80% sales. Sadly, 20% of customers are responsible for 80% complaints as well.
When I started selling my product online my mentor used to tell us: “I can show you everything what I do to potentially make 6-7 figures but only 20% of you will really take an action because I know how 80/20 rule works”. It might sound a bit “voodoo” but there is no voodoo magic in it. It’s all about the right mindset (at least when we talk about people, not about pea pods or clouds :-) ).

Here are some examples

I have a bachelor degree in psychology and studying human behaviour has always been my passion. We are living in the information age and many people can just plug into the online world and potentially make money on this worldwide selling platform. I noticed that 80% of them were not making much money but 20% were doing something right. It could be anyone. I discovered a single mother of 4 kids making $10k a month and a disabled guy from neck down making even more money. If they can do it, why I can’t? Again, it all comes down to “the right mindset”.

These people were determined, excited and had no plan “B”. They went “all in” using their passion. And because they did all that, they were rewarded. Pareto principle or 80/20 rule worked on their behalf. It was not about luck. They followed their dream because they had nothing else to lose. This inspired me to go all in as well. Instead of being a creature of circumstances I became the creator of circumstances. I could paint my life with the colors I CHOSE.

Will you take an action?

Do you think that you will act on this? Will you be the creator instead of the consumer like the 80% of people? Will you paint your life? Will you follow your dreams? Will you ever regret that you have never tried?
You will need initial guidance and mentoring. But does anyone believe in you? I certainly believe in YOU and believe that you can make the 80/20 rule to work on your behalf because you are the person who has managed to read this article right to the end. You are definitely a warrior who can fight for your dream, not a “worrier” that worries all the time about what could go wrong.
