Facebook Headlining Summer Roadshow Bootcamp for Small Businesses

Facebook is planning to run a summer tour that will hit five cities, helping small business owners in New York, Miami, Chicago, Austin and Menlo Park to learn about the Facebook platform and the advertising options it offers.

The summer tour will feature half-day seminars including presentations not just from Facebook but also Intuit, Square and Legal Zoom. A large portion of the day will be devoted to Facebook advertising, with Q&A opportunities. Business owners will have the chance to learn about finance, accounting and legal issues.

The Facebook section of the workshop will start with a Getting Started guide, which will be followed by a section on how to use Facebook to bring more people to your bricks and mortar store, and then will move on to a section on using Facebook to increase your Online sales.

The seminars will cost $25 to attend, but they are great value for money because the company will give each attendee $50 in Facebook advertising credits. Google ran a similar promotion called Google U a few years ago to introduce people to the world of AdWords, but it has scaled back that promotion now that it offers a dual SMB advertiser acquisition system.

Facebook apparently has 25 million small businesses that have a Facebook Page on the network. Apparently, more than half of all US small businesses have a presence on the social network. However, it is unclear how effective that presence is for the advertisers. The company hopes that the seminar will help to address the way that Facebook advertising is (or is not) working for those small businesses, and help them to make the most out of their online presence.
