We're improving Warrior Forum infrastructure
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Thank you very much for all your feedback and suggestions. We have been inundated with emails and messages and are going through all of them. Make sure you guys keep it coming. They are gold. We love hearing all your ideas and suggestions.

A lot of you have talked about the database and time out issues. As a start, we are doing a complete infrastructure overhaul and have a dedicated development operations team working on improving the performance of the site. It will take the team a bit of time to get into the site and implement all the improvements but we've made this a priority.

In the next couple of weeks you should see:
- Better load times
- Fewer timeout
- Overall better performance on the site

Thanks again for all your suggestions, make sure you keep them coming!

Thanks
Alaister

[UPDDATE - 6th May 2014]
We've successfully moved the Warrior Forum servers over to Amazon AWS.
This has improved load time, overall stability and site performance. We shouldn't experience any more database timeouts.

That's awesome, Alaister. It'll be great to be able to visit the site without it taking forever to load, or just randomly timing out at the most inconvenient time possible. :p

That's definitely a great start!

We'll be leaps forward already eliminating the server-side issues.

Of course, just after I posted this the servers had to go down! The irony.

We've put a whole team on getting the infrastructure upgraded as a priority. We'll be moving it all to Amazon AWS where we host the main Freelancer site.

Please bear with us as we wrangle the beast and get it moved across!

Thanks

@Alaister

Glad you acquired Warrior Forum , I would appreciate & also I expect things get smoother than what it was before.
I have been a member in Warrior forum since 3 - 4 yrs & always loved this community for their support & innovations , hope you would maintain that too.

Last week few times when I tried to access the site , the home page was loading fine , but the rest of the inner pages timed out , was not accessible .

Hope these type of performance issues will be sorted out :-)

I wish you all the best again.

one Suggestion. Why not to sync Warrior reviews to Freelancer reviews. Means if someone leave good feedback/review here then it also shows to freelancer.

Suggestion:

One of the long-term problems we have on the WF is with people who post to really old threads, bumping them back to life.

This is a problem because it often leads to a reopening of a several-year-old discussion that is no longer relevant and wastes time and effort for those who, in good faith, continue to post in the reawakened thread.

There are two solutions that spring to mind:

1. Prevent threads that began more than 'x' months ago from being bumpable.

2. Change the forum software so that it displays the date of first post alongside the thread title.

Well, generally those who do that aren't aware it's a dated post. You could just prompt a verification message stating that it's dated and ask if they want to submit the message. I don't think restrictions should be applied to any thread just because it's dated - some threads continue to be dated and alive after a few months so that wouldn't work either unless you applied other variables such as the last post.

Wonderful news. I just saw that you have a new FB page for the WF at https://www.facebook.com/officialwarriorforum . Shared that my network on FB.

I have very fond memories of Freelancer.com back when it was a magazine and when I was teaching recruiters/HR how to source online in 1999. Ah, memories.

The main thing I would like to see for the WF nowadays is simply troll-control. Several of my colleagues choose not to post their sales on the WF because of that.

Oh, and a Boomers section. For us venerably well-seasoned, cane-raisin' Jedi, see.

Congrats on your buy. I believe one of the core secrets of success of Allen with WF is simply focusing on giving...always how to help Warriors. It should be your central focus moving forward.

If it guides you, taking the Warrior Forum to a greater height and recouping your investment will come naturally.

One thing that FRUSTRATES me here is the "find all user's threads" doesn't work properly - it just displays the threads the user has posted in, a bit like "find all users posts" except not as specific. Which is annoying if you are trying to find all of the threads that the user has STARTED/ is the OP of.

I am guessing an admin broke this search function because it works properly on every other vbulletin site I use!

That's not usually true when it comes to spammers with 3 post counts bumping 2010 threads in order to drop backlinks. I've put a band-aid on that specific spam on the SEO sub-forum, either it's helped or the spammers got bored & moved on because I'm not seeing the massive bumps we had a couple of weeks ago.

I would still appreciate If old threads are automatically locked after approx. 1.5 years & possibly still allowing Mods the option to unlock a thread If necessary.

************************************************** *******

OP, I would appreciate If someone would put a stop to forum SEO backlink blast being sold here on Warrior Forum. It's counterproductive allowing link blast to be sold while Mods are busy cleaning up the same type of mess on the free forums.

Hi Alaister,
I wish to bring your notice to Skype icons, which were actually working in the left side profile under "Social Networking" box. However, these days if someone have an earlier configured Skype connection, It will take you to a box, stating a 403 error.

It was a great tool of connection when it comes to easy communication for Warriors who want to know more about a service product in WSO product or Services.

I will request you to get it working back as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Vikash

Hi Kashnif,

This would have nothing to do with any changes we've made. Would you be able to submit a help ticket here and we'll be able to help you out.

Hi Warriors!

We've removed the list of users online at the bottom of the Warrior Forum homepage. We've already seen improvements to the download time which is great.

We still show the number of people online split between members and guests but we no longer list every single username.

I did noticed improvement in Site load time since past couple of days. Removing the names of online users was also a smart move as it didn't really served any purpose.

I guess this explains the gateway timeouts I've been getting on Chrome. Thanks for the good work, the site seems to work well on other browsers!

Yep.

A pretty consistent, obvious and substantial increase in speed from here.

It's difficult to convey how infuriating a sluggish, strained site can be.

Sod's law, I guess, but it sends shudders down my spine to think of the number of times I've been caught out by timeouts and internal servers errors after having got stupidly carried away with lengthy posts and PMs written on here instead of in notepad.

But I expect Amazon can cope quite merrily without breaking a sweat, and look forward to a better experience from here on out.

Very well done.

Can you explain how the $20/year War Room subscription is being implemented for those that are already members?

Thank you.

That War Room change was the first announcement made here after the ownership changed. It doesn't affect previous War Room members - no further charges to you.

I know it's faster - fewer time outs - but....

Spambots seem to have no trouble getting through - last dozen or so posts in the OT section are pure spam. Looks like filters we had before don't work now so maybe get some new filters?

I would love to see the wait time (60 seconds) lowered for reporting this crap. Time is money and that 60 second wait adds up to a lot of time for those of us who are reporting it.

Has the "Find more posts..." been removed when you click on any given poster?

The lastest posts seem to be about 5 years ago, and that is certainly not the case for most people here.

Is anyone else having issues accessing your own previous posts in the forum, mine appeares to show posts from 2009 that are not my posts, also for some reason I can't access anything I have bought via warrior plus, when I click my purchases it just says no results, is this related to the server move?

Yeah, the lack of search functionality is indeed related to the server move...

Hopefully it is fully restored soon as it was probably my most used forum function.

Alaister Low,

A "Freebies" section is a huge DEMAND for internet marketing forums these days.

Paid Freebies = War Room

The forum is full of free advice already, but a totally free freebie product section might decrease War Room memberships...

Just sayin'

Cheers

I'm getting a 502 gateway error for almost all sections of the forum. Luckily I've been able to access this section to post here.

Any way to resolve this?
