Know an industry inside and out that could use a SAAS platform?

Hi all,

I'm a full stack systems engineer, which means that when it comes to tech / servers / etc., I can pretty much hold my own.

I spend far too much time creating simple software (websites, plugins, etc.) and am looking to build out a solid SAAS (software as a service) platform for an entire industry, preferably one that is still stuck in the pen and paper age.

The problem I have is that I've spent almost 3 (out of 4) decades refining my programming skills ... but have not spent enough time in any non-programming industry (insurance sales, car sales, legal defense, etc.) to have a good enough grasp on both how things are done and what could be automated to build a system that would help alleviate pain points. Additionally, I lack the connections in any particular industry to do so.

So, what I'm looking for is to work with someone who is old hat to any industry that lacks a go to software platform for managing their processes, knows how things work and what is needed, and is willing to spend some time answering questions and familiarizing me with how things actually work in their industry ... preferably an industry that is large enough to potentially gather thousands, if not tens of thousands, of users if the software provides what is needed.

If you are someone with a solid knowledge of an industry which has a normal work flow that can be mapped out, I'd love the chance to work with you to create a system that works the way your industry works.

Obvious candidates are lead based industries (insurance, home sales, car sales, law, etc.).

If you know your stuff (e.g. you can explain how things work to me, someone completely outside of your industry), I'd be happy to work with you to build a platform out for a reasonable revenue share.

If you are a good marketer and/or have connections in the industry and/or come capital to invest, even better ... just know that my investment will be taking your knowledge, breaking it into logic that can become code, writing all of the code, and building a cloud based service that can scale nicely ... which will probably take months of my time.

Obviously, we will need to decide upon key metrics to track so that those who might be interested in the service can clearly see that it more than pays for itself.

Please, no scams, no shady software ideas, etc. As a developer and systems engineer, I am looking to build a solid platform that will provide real benefit to a large audience ... which would be willing to pay good money each month for the benefits provided by the service created.

The main ideas would be to:
  • Map out the actual processes being used by a particular industry
  • Specify a system that would implement those processes with tracking
  • Account for any up front needs such as importing client lists
  • Tie in to any remote systems as needed (including calendars)
  • Build out a system that would automate as much as possible and provide tools to business owners to make sure things are not falling through the cracks.
  • Put it in front of people and use paid user feedback to continually improve the system.
And I don't care about how complicated the system seems... I'll be more than able to tell you whether or not I can code what is needed, though it might take a few conversations to be certain.

Likely escape routes would be to sell the completed system to a player in the target industry who could then maintain and improve it themselves. In the mean time, I would take care of server maintenance, code updates, technical support, etc. until it started generating enough revenue so that we could offload at least some of the support.

Finally, it is worth noting that I _do_ have a day job currently and so development would be limited to off hours and weekends. Also, I am a 1 man show ... so if I get hit by a bus all bets are off. The upside being that I've already created a generic, field tested, system that can handle the basics (user authentication, encryption, subscriptions, profile management, scaling, security, etc.) ... so most of the work to be done would be mapping out processes and implementing them.

We should talk. I'm in the insurance industry at a Global Fortune 500 and our client list contains some of the biggest motor manufacturers in the world.

I've been in this industry for 10 years+ and have a lot of connections. I'm also a marketing strategist who is good at identifying gaps in the market and knowing how to position products within those markets so I think we could complement each other well.

    PM on the way!
