steak dinners, clubs, and cash...what do you ya say? see more inside...
For established artists with millions of albums sold, yes, it was easier and they went on the air instantly as soon as their new stuff became available. but, for NEW artists, it was trickier. Being a new artist, I had to find programmers that believed in our artist, or loved the song, OR that I had a great RELATIONSHIP with who would support me and our label and give us a shot by playing it, or doing a promotion around it.
Others (I didn't like these types) sat on their high and mighty throne stuck in their ways and would refuse to play it "until they saw more proof". I understand that in the case of bust artist or a bomb crappy song or group. BUT for an artist that has a great sounding, catchy, hooky song and the full support and push of the largest record company in the world behind it and to sit on the fence, that drove me crazy! they would wait, and wait, and wait and demand things in exchange for airplay, blah blah blah. SO, what I did, was go across the street to their competitor and give them world on a silver platter. front row tickets to the concert, or flyaways to other cities to see the band, cd giveaways, and the best was when I would bring the band by the station to meet everyone.
so, my point is, their little game of playing hardball backfired, and they lost out. I loved seeing them or getting the call and saying to them "dude, I came here a month ago offering you the option to be exclusive with this promotion and you told me "i don't hear it or see it, come back later" I said, well, later might be too late, this is NOW we need you to launch and support". haha, loved it!
Im guessing its similar in the internet marketing world. I have a great product (not just me who says so, but proven, successful, now rich investors that took our class and used our product).
So, now I have to start finding "affiliates" or JV's to promote my product, with their big bad lists.
If I could take these guys out for steak dinners and to the clubs, I would, and if you are in Chicago, call me, we can meet up, dinner on me! haha,
so, I guess im asking, with a new artist (product), where do I start and how can I find some that will give me that shot and support me.
see the other difference here is that when radio guys played our bands, the artists made millions, the radio guy may get a nice plaque or meet the band, etc, but in the IM world, you promote our product, YOU MAKE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW BOUT THEM APPLES?!!
Just here to see the shenanigans.
