Still, $3,000 is a quite a bit to just "start" a forum.

Scripts around $100-$300 (depending on script) several robust forum scripts are actually free.

Hosting: around $30-$40 a month until the forum outgrows it and you can scale up.

Miscellaneous programmer/design additions: $500 (high side)

So you plan on pumping $2,000 immediately into advertising or were you going to take some cash to compensate your time spent?

$3000 is an awful lot to start a forum. I started one 2 months ago with a vBulletin license and I pay $10 a month for hosting.

I've got 1200 posts already and it's growing substantially, without any advertising. You need to show people what your capable of doing without an investment before the give you 3k.

I think you stand a better chance with building the site, getting it hosted and THEN show "investors" what your forum has to offer that others don't.

Then, if it looks promising, an investor will come in no problem.

OR ... you can get an investor to start initial "seed" money with a few hundred bucks because that's all it will take to get it launched.

Seriously though, there is a plethora of forums out there. You can't just build it, same as all others and just think it will magically be a success. I've seen many with BIG plans with a forum and then it never really took off.

The forum in itself is nothing. It is the MEMBERS who contribute that make the forum a success.

    Good luck,
    Rod

This advice is right on the mark - show something and people will take more interest in investing. Right now, we are taking the word of someone we don't know in a very competitive category that is already very well developed. The potential is there for "insane" results with a new different approach, but "trust me" is a difficult sell in a bad economy.

Well, One cant know everyone and I'm not blaming you that why you dont know me LOL...

Now coming to your second Point- No IM related forums and all are yet not very competitive ... There are barely 20-30 Forums we know are famous and I totally agree there may be thousands of forums but they aren't getting the right exposure just because they aren't worth it or their webmasters aren't paying attention towards it....

If one company manufactures a cloth it doesnt means they are the KING

That is the exact point/advice we are trying to give to you as you look for a partner.
By creating the forum and advertising a little, it won't create "insane" profits. You are going to have to share, privately or publicly, how you will be different and the steps you will take to make the business generate revenue and profits. I'm not saying these things to rain on your idea, I'm trying to give some advice since I have experience.

Warrior Forum and Digitalpoint are both over 10 years old. Here is a site link that will help you understand sites that you might not have even heard of to see how they go to the market and position themselves to find your niche. Good luck to you and please PM if you have questions.

1- Revenue will not be just from ads... Forum will have a membership too

2- I cant reveal the steps like- How i will be promoting the forum, How the forum will keep on making money, etc !

            Regards

I think there is a language barrier here as I didn't mean advertising revenues but the $1,000 going toward advertising the new forum. If you can get someone to invest $100, let alone $1,000 without telling them the business plan details on how the site will be promoted and how the site will make money, PLEASE send those investors to me as well.

I think you are right to be cautious about sharing the information, especially on this forum, because people will rip you off in many cases. Everyone started out at one time or another so I'm just trying to offer advice through experience - good luck my friend!
