Ten years ago, I joined this forum. Over time I saw many a marketer make millions that joined after me. I tried to do things my way, what I wanted, and not in the tried and proven methods. I have made money, but my biggest month was probably $200 give or take a few bucks. I can make a thousand excuses, but they mean nothing. It's all on ME!

For the past couple of years, I took a hiatus. I burned myself out. Now, I am psyching myself up to start it all over again. For the past four days, I have been hacking away at establishing the path I want to take. Yesterday and today, I have written and rewritten my blueprint and it keeps coming back to one thing. So I have determined that this is it.

My requirements are simple.
  1. Keep it simple
  2. Automate it
  3. Duplicate it
  4. Build on it
As most of you recognize, I am back to the tried and true prophet funnel!

My goal is to set up an affiliate funnel.
  • Squeeze page
  • Thank you page
  • Download page
  • Something to download
  • Email list
Then, while driving traffic, I'll build one or more funnels. Then, I'll start building on the one most profitable and hopefully, hire a VA to continue my work.

Having to report back here twice a week, (yeah, I'm the one who read the rules) will keep me focused.

So, my goal is to complete step 1 - setup the squeeze page, offer and autoresponder codes.

My requirements are:
  1. Squeeze Page -- installed
  2. Autoresponder -- Installed
  3. Thank you page -- Installed
  4. Download Page -- Installed
  5. Bribe
  6. 30 days of emails
My goal is to complete the easy part, steps 1-4 by Friday evening, February 1, one week from today.

I guess I better leave you great folk alone and get back to work.

I don't believe in "luck" so I wish the best blessings on those of you putting your Path in front of the public. It makes me a bit nervous, and humbled.

January 30, 2017 UPDATE
=======================================

This weekend I didn't expect to have time to do much work. I did manage to squeeze in about 6 hours to write a short 5 page report. It wasn't for this project, but it inspired me to take this niche on. So, this morning I dug up my old backups and put my old list building site up,

NinjaListSecrets.com

I would like your opinions on the site. I originally put that video up as a place-holder thinking I could put a sales funnel here, but for a squeeze page, I think it will work like it is.

I have an autoresponder series I put together about two years ago with tips for building lists that I learned from some of the successful marketers I trust. But, they don't do anything for promoting other products. Obviously, I want to promote other quality products, but I don't want to play the churn and burn game with new subscribers.

I haven't fully decided on the freebie yet. But I am on the lookout for something that really goes with the theme. I am thinking I'll have to either write it or edit a piece of PLR for it. I will also be on the lookout for a great product to upsell. At first, I'll send the upsell to an affiliate offer, but I want to get my own as soon as reasonably possible.

So, please, tell me what you think.

Thanks
Buck

Many? Really? Of course 'many' is a relative term, but I'd rethink that supposition and I wouldn't let what you perceive as a fact, affect you, neither positively, nor negatively.

Just my 2¢ and good luck.

Like I said, "many" is a relative term. What you call, "many," I would call, "an incredibly small number," when you consider the number of people that have come through the doors, here - and left forever without making a thin dime.

Now that this is over, I don't want your 2¢, I want your Buyer's List!
Actually, since I recently retired, quite comfortably, after selling for probably longer than you have been breathing, without ever building a list, trust me - my 2¢ is probably the most valuable thing that I have to offer you. That said, since you it has no perceived value to you, I'll keep it to myself. :-)

        Lets work on that, OK?
Well, if you think that 'building a list' is the absolute most important asset you can have to be successful, I can't help you.

        Let's be winners together
I'll be waiting to greet you at the finish line, if I live that long. I wish you a most successful journey.

But, you come in here totally anonymous and poke holes in my inspiration and only offer discouragement.

You're awful touchy and defensive. What does pointing out that not MANY people have made millions here? You want to not have "holes poked in your inspiration?" Start with facts, add realistic expectations and you'll have a lot less disappointment.

I am not saying that there aren't a thousand ways to make money on the Internet, but this is the path I chose because I know it works and it's what I think I can do best right now. You are not only right that only a few here make it, but for me to see one person a year grow to big success in a market where the majority of us go nowhere, to me, that's a lot and enough to encourage me to move forward.
Nothing I said should discourage you from moving forward AND nothing that ANYONE says should ever stop you from moving forward, if you believe in what you are doing. God knows, I never listened to anyone along the way. Of course, looking back, I can see where my foolhardiness and arrogance (which I always thought was 'supreme self-confidence') kept me from listening to people that knew much more than myself and that possibly I would have been much better off, had I done so.

I am not here for my health, I'm here because the ads make this look easy, the programs make it look difficult and the "me-too"s here might be inspired to get back in the game or to stay in the game if I do make it. I know I'm an embarrassment to the success stories. I'll never be able to say "I made ,XXX in my first month, because my first month is years behind.
I don't know what any of this has to do with me or my comments, but I'm happy to listen to whatever you have to say. There's no reason to be so defensive, though.

So, if you can't help, for all those who follow and read this thread, don't discourage us or try to poke holes in our inspiration and goals, or the route we plan to take.
You must have my posts confused with someone else's. If not, you need to read them again. You're creating drama, where none exists, except in your mind.

If you have a better way, create a course and sell it without making a list.
Never said my way was better for for anyone other than myself. I was simply trying to say that if you are going to believe all of the "rules' that are constantly bandied about as 'irrefutable facts,' then you will probably make your path harder and take longer than it has to take, in order to achieve your goals. I was not saying that you don't need a list if that's what you believe is necessary for your business model. I was staying that if that is your mindset, I can't help you with that, as I never used one as a basic tool for my chosen business model.

            Congratulations on your retirement.
Thank you - I think. Still not sure how I feel about that, as I find myself waking up every day and still have tons of ideas percolating in my brain. I'm sure that once the warm weather arrives I will develop an entirely new perspective.

I am right on your heels! And I hope I live long enough, myself. If not, I will die trying!
I hope so, too and I certainly hope that you don't die trying. Where's the fun and payoff, in that? lol

            Thank you,
Again, I wish you much success as nothing feels better than achieving your goals, creating financial independence and being able to enjoy it, before you are ready for the dirt nap!

            Cheers.

There are more than a few factors involved in answering this question. BUT, if I had to put my fingers on 1 and 1 only.. Commitment would be the deciding factor. And with this therer is a couple levels of commitment.

#1 Is this a niche you have intentions of staying in for a period of time? I think this is an obviously not so obvious question. Everyone on some level thinks they are going to stick with this and everything will be great. However, on another level we know better. So building a list is a long term play. Its not just the offer that you want to present today, its the chain of offers over time that make the effort of list development worth while.

IF you are committed to staying within the niche you have selected.. IF there is a list of posible products / services you can provide over a period of time, then build the list. An extreme example: Fidget Spinners - sell them til the fad runs out and move on... there was no need to develop a list UNLESS you are in it to win it long term, and knew in advance of other products you could push to a list that was a parrallel product.

#2 Understanding the WORK in starting a list... lets bypass the whole funnel development process for a moment, and look stricktly at the development of the sequence"s" needed once you have the e-mail address. I will flat out say this is the #1 point of failure for marketers in general Newbies and seasoned professionals alike.

You have to commit to writing a series of sales pitchs 2 letters a week for 10 weeks means 20 sales pitches. Each one building the benefit of the product and selling. each one although selling the exact same thing has to be different in context to reach the greatest variety of audience.

So what exactly does this mean? If you write one pitch.. Hey buy this because of X Y and X you are leaving out those that may buy for A B and C or H I and J. you have to diversify the messageg to reach a greater overall audience.

#3 Understanding the work to maintain the list's interest. So we have a string of 20 e-mails that sell the intended offer.. Once they BUY, they need to be placed on the buyers list and dripped content that maximizes the experience of the sold offer. maybe another 20 e-mails at the very least. And in this time you had better have a supporting product ready to pitch by about email 5 to 10 or so.. and the cycle continues

IFall of this sounds like way to much work... guess what? bypass the list LOL

Hi, Al, It's nice to meet you.

I did a little research to see where you might be coming from in the question. I think you know the answer and are looking for confirmation. First of all, after reading Optin's questions and answers in the Forum, I see he doesn't care for list marketing, but he has a list too. He just contacts them once a month or so according to one of his posts. He opposes people who make more than one email contact a week. At least that's what I remember reading from his posts elsewhere in the Forum.

In your offer in your tagline, you have an affiliate link, and then tools for the affiliates. You offer a series of 3 emails to promote your offer to their list. That gives your affiliates 3 chances to promote your offer to each of their subscribers.

When I was younger, my father, a salesman, taught me that about 90+% of sales will be made by people contacted up to 7 times. The first time gets impulse buyers or those already looking for the product so you get a fair number of buyers, but then, the numbers slowly decline over the next 6 contacts with the law of diminishing returns hitting after a total of 7 contacts.

Another "fact" that is running around the IM world, is that someone who buys from you is 10 times more likely to buy from you again over "freebie seekers", which I prefer to call "prospects".

It's funny how when Facebook became a boom, that I started receiving a series of emails saying that "email marketing is dead" and "social media replaces email marketing". LOL

You look seasoned enough that you probably understand that when buying an existing business, the price, which is much more than a business's assets is justified by "good will". Good will is the customer base of the company and it's good reputation with them. Often, if not almost always, the price of good will is 10's of times greater than the assets of the company. Also, in business, it is often repeated that it is 10 time easier to keep a repeat customer than to get a new one.

Because you are using Clickbank, I doubt you have a buyer's list, but there are ways of building one and you may be using it, I don't know. But, because it isn't obvious, let me assume you don't.

You have an affiliates list. You have a list of people interested in marketing your products. You use the list to market to them. You don't market your product, you do things like give them samples, resources and other communication related in promoting your product.

Without a list of people promoting your product, when you create a new product, what would you have? You'd be just another listing on Clickbank. But with your list, you get a jump start on making product sales because your affiliates made money from your last product.

Now, with a buyers list, you can do even more. You can communicate with your customers, find out where the weaknesses are in your product, and strengthen them through a series of emails. When you communicate with them, you find out what their needs and wants are, and they aren't the same thing. One marketer put it like this, "You sell them what they want and give them what they need."

If you have a list of 5000 buyers, and most of the time, they are talking about and asking about driving traffic, then you know to write a course on driving traffic. When you do, you notify your list that you are releasing the new course for $197, but because they are on your list, they can buy it this week for only $97. Now, suppose you have a conversion rate of only 10%. Well, that's only $48,000 dollars (leaving $500 for fees, etc.)

Let's talk about abuse for a minute. The rule of building a responsive email list is to provide value for your list. That only goes so far with your prospects list. If they aren't going to buy, they aren't going to buy.

I bought a course sold on here called "Churn and burn" where the seller promoted sending rapid-fire daily emails promoting affiliate or your own product. It was a relentless (what I called) attack on the list. I've been the recipient of those emails, and didn't like them. I eventually opted out, more sooner than later. But, after calling the guy an idiot, i learned how such a tactic can be used.

One marketer buys lists, (I think from solo ads.) and puts them through the churn and burn process immediately. If they buy, he takes the off the churn and burn list and gives them respect as a buyer.

I also learned that you can build your prospects list by giving away goodies and valuable information in your emails. But, if after a while, they are only on your list for the freebies, they can be turned over to a churn and burn series of emails because the chances of making money are better sending them affiliate offers than your own. That's better than just culling them out of your list. So the theory says.

Somewhere else, I have people who ask me questions about things I know well. My daughter buys and keep Bettas, so I answer a few questions about them, but it's not my area of expertise. Now, I have people asking me questions almost daily about keeping Bettas. While I talk more about things I know better in aquariums, my questions are centered around Bettas. So, if I were to write a book in the niche, I am pretty sure I would have a successful launch if it is on Bettas.

Is email marketing dead? "Article Marketing is Dead". Article marketing isn't what it used to be, at least not like it was practiced. But, a lot of it's practice was building blog reputations by links from high rated article repository sites. But when Google dropped article directories off the ratings, the effect of article marketing that way died. But, there are other methods of article marketing in use today and marketers who are making big money doing it. Article marketing isn't dead, it isn't as effective as it was, but it is still alive and well today.

Email marketing isn't what it used to be. people would rather meet in Facebook groups than read long emails on their phone. So, the methods of marketing by email has changed, but it has not gone away.

A well rounded marketing strategy now includes the incorporation of Facebook pages and groups, Twitter, blog articles and email.

I don't know what the stats are now, but about two to three years ago, someone figured out well over half his emails were being read between 12PM and 4 PM but the majority of his orders were received after 5 or 6 PM. So, at that time, people were reading their emails at work but ordering their products at home.

This past week I read a current conversation (It's still going on) about emails on phones. Over 50% of recipients are reading on a phone. A large number of people in the group are saying that they immediately deleted emails with pictures, long paragraphs or if they are long messages.

Finally, what belongs to you? You don't have permission to contact your FB followers outside of Facebook and you probably don't have their email addresses collected anywhere. (If you do, it's an email list.) The same with Twitter, LinkedIn, or anywhere else. If any of the above platforms collapse, you lose your followers, too, until you find them again.

But, if Aweber collapses today, everyone who has backed up their list will be back in business in 24 hours or less with all their contacts.

So, to me, your responsive mailing list is your only asset. It's the way to communicate with your buyers when anything else collapses. It's your push-button answer to getting emergency funds when needed, and it's the only list you can port with you from one platform to another.

You asked me, "DO I BUILD A LIST OR NOT?" What are you thinking?

Here are images of what I have so far. I need to link the autoresponder next. I have two to choose from - Builderall, and RapidResponseBot. Google auto-spams certain email clients in Builderall, so I will use RapidResponseBot.

I think for the most part, I am done with the squeeze page. Unless there is something that needs tweaking for a better click-through rate.

Since RRB requires double opt-in, I have included a Thank you, Please confirm page.

And finally, the final Thank You page which could become a download page.

Going back to the thank you, please confirm page, using what I have learned,

I originally wrote to add an affiliate link to the please confirm page, but I decided I didn't want to compete with the next site for an email confirmation. So, the Please confirm page should be pretty much left to do it's job and maybe offer some valuable content for the subscriber to read while waiting on their email to arrive.

On the download page, I should offer the download link(s) and up to four bonus links that are either solo-swaps or affiliate offers.

    Emails

Different experts teach different numbers, but they all agree that there should be between 3 and 5 emails sent to promote one offer. At the same time, we need to send the subscriber quality content.

The first email is an intro to the product, then one or two soft sells, and finally a hard sell. Then, rinse and repeat for other products.

Someone asked me about traffic plans. I hate to say I don't have any yet and there is a reason.

I have this sort-of mind map in my head of what needs to be done. If I were to put it in Xmind, it could easily take a week or two just to get it all mapped out. Then, I would be overwhelmed again. So, I realize I don't have the full plan fixed in writing at this time.

But, when I am finished with this first step, then the next step will get all my attention until I have completed or confirmed it as necessary. I have some ideas that will get me, maybe a couple hundred visitors so I can test the conversion rate. While doing that, I'll be researching material I have concerning traffic and choosing one or more plans to test.

Sometime after I have traffic and the list is building, I plan to acquire some kind of product to sell. It's not definite in my mind just yet, but it is definitely in my mind.

I am open to opinions about how to improve this or questions if you have them.

    Thanks

    ====================
    Jan 31, 2018
    ====================

I made some changes to the site so it would look a little better mobile. The display text overlapped on my iPhone. I added the other two pages and the autoresponder code and crashed something.

I am using WP Profit Builder for the theme. It reads the autoresponder code and then overrides it, to some degree, allowing me to turn off the name field, which I didn't want. But, it was working for me when I was logged in, but not when I was logged out of WordPress. After four hours of copying the code into the box, I remembered that I need to empty the box, save the page, then fill the box and save it again to fix it. Otherwise, it keeps some of the deleted code and crashes the autoresponder.

    The bribe:

As it stands, the bribe is delivered by newsletter. I am wondering if that's a bad thing or not.

If the bribe, the giveaway product of value is an ebook or video, then the visitor would get it and have no other need of the site. But, if it is an on-going series of hints and helps, then it might be more valuable for the subscriber to remain on the list than to get off.

But, would the subscriber want to get something more immediate? So, I am thinking I need to have something that starts the sequence in the form of a short report that continues in the emails. I could use it as a hook in the book with a link back to the original site. That way, if someone gives the book away, interested readers could follow the link back to my site for more hints and tips. That being the case, I can post give-away rights in the front to encourage readers to give it away making it one source of traffic.

I've completed my goals for this week. So, that gives me a three day head start on creating content and monetizing my download page.

So for next week, through Friday, I need to accomplish the following:
    • Find sources of monetization related to building a newbie funnel
    • Research and organize a collection of related tips
    • Create a short report that also leads into the autoresponder series
    • Create a series of emails that add more tips and helps and promotes affiliate offers

This sounds like a lot to get done in a week to ten days. But I'm going to set that as my goal anyway.
I think I removed the links to my site as it has somewhat gone live. If anyone does subscribe before it is "launched" (i use the word loosely,) they will likely see the evolution of my progress as I go.

As for adding quality content, I have several things in mind, one in particular that I am going to experiment with. If it works, I will share what it is and how well it went with you folks.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or suggestions, please comment.

    Thanks
    Buck

I see that you deleted a post that quoted me before I had a chance to respond to it. In it, you introduced yourself and apologized for being defensive.

    1. I'm Frank - nice to make your acquaintance.

    2. There was no need for an apology. You didn't say anything that I took offense to.

It looks like you are making good progress. Keep it up!

    Cheers.

Since you want my opinion about the squeeze page, here we go:
(1.) The picture there are amateurish- It does not convey the message intended.
(2.) While your copy is fairly okay, you hide it in almost unreadable font.
(3.) I think you should do away with the black background, or hold on to it and let the pictures be sharp and the font glaring.
(4.) Ask yourself: 'If I see a page like this, will I click to find out more?'- I personally will be discouraged the the annoying imaes and font. Well that is my opinion, take it or leave it.

In reply to your negative review.
      1: Yes, it is amateurish.
2: If you are talking about the title at the top, you aren't the only one who complained. I changed it.
3: The picture is a ninja who is supposed to be hiding in the shadows, but I have lots of complaints about the shadowed text. I changed some of it to white so it stands out.
      4. Probably not.
Take it or leave it... Well, if you are being as honest as I believe you are, and I believe you are being honest, then that's exactly what I asked for. I appreciate your opinion on it very much, negative or not.

Last night I created another squeeze page, HTML only. It has a big dark picture of a Ninja in Iron Man's landing position. The front is a shaded square with the typical brightly colored opt-in box. It turns out that it was made from Aweber and won't work with my autoresponder.

Someone else suggested I use only two lines of text. One that is a descriptive headline and one that is a call to action.

As for the four bullet points, I really worked hard to find something that sounded ninjaish and made good points, but, even I am not really happy with the results.

Thank you for your opinion. I hope everyone is honest about theirs. That's the only thing that helps me.

amateurish? yeah, it's pretty bad, isn't it, LOL

I guess it's back to the drawing board on this one.

I would like your opinions on the site. I originally put that video up as a place-holder thinking I could put a sales funnel here, but for a squeeze page, I think it will work like it is.
Im really not trying to be a downer here... but I think a very lagitimate question.... this is a site you had up before? HOW are you going to change the outcome from the last time you ran with it? I am assuming the previous effort failed to some degree or another or it wouldnt be in your archive pile?

The text isnt that good. The call to action isnt that good. there is a lack of benefits. If this didnt work before what makes you think it will work this time?

Im really not trying to put you down.. Your the one with the goals.. but you are using pa passed failure to meet the needs of the current goal, I just dont see it working.

To answer your comment in no particular order,

yes, I had it up before and never drove traffic to it. It accidentally collected about 10 subscribers before I took it down.

"text isn't that good" Are you talking about the font, or the words I chose? I keep hearing complaints about the text not being readable, but it's extremely clear to me. The writing sucks, I admit that and the more I see it, the more I believe it. But if it's the font, let me know. I won't use it again.

What call to action? I looked and didn't find one. -- Yeah, I am in the process of changing the whole subscribe page.
Actually, the page has changed. I need to edit the call to action on this one and the appearance of the ugly subscribe form from RapidResponseBot.

I'm not happy with the looks of the new subscribe form either. I'm thinking I need to get rid of the ninja theme in the subscribe page and just go with pretty in spite of the name of the domain.

I have asked for help in editing the autoresponder banchi code so I can use my own graphics for the text box for the email address and the subscribe button.

Thank you for your criticism. Without it, I would not learn. so I'm not "down".

I wouldnt say its the font... the readability issue is probably more so the color selections more than anything.

I was refering to the actually words themselves... just nothing convincing enough to get clicks

          Thank you,

I've canned whole design anyway and am going to something much more simple and, hopefully HTML only. I'm thinking of dumping the idea of the ninja anyway. I can't seem to find something that is eye appealing with it without a lot of design.

Ok, take a deep breath here... you are tying yourself in the slightest of details and you are headed for a train wreck. Lets get you back on track. Right now you only need a few things.
            1. A report
            2. A Domain
            3. A logo
            4. A landing page and subsequent pages
            5. A series of emails to send to sell the product you are offering

I am going to assume you have the report correct? If not, get to writting. Just get it done.

The domain.. you have that "Ninjalistsecrets.com" not a bad choice, no sense in trying to change things up, you have it, USE it.

The logo... You are over thinking this. Find an image that conveys action ( something like this https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20130825161503 ) If not this then something else... then take an image and go over to fiver.. explain you need a logo similar to the example all blacked out and your domain name. If you need the $10.00 to get this done just let me know I will paypal it to you. you just need to get beyond this.

The landing page. i use Wordpress. All you have to do is create a page, use columns put your benefits to the left the optin to the right, or below. Using some quick code, you can remove the header and footer from the page. The more technical you get with this.. the more apt you are to struggle. The KISS method is the best plan here.

The rest of the pages should be easy to put together after this.

On the landing page.. you need a list of benefits. WHY should I download your report? give me 5 reasons why.

Again not saying any of this to be mean.. Right now you are thinking, and its just setting you up for failure without actually getting the project off the ground. Start doing, and follow through step by step. If after that you failed.. you can say you tried, learn from your mistakes and rebuild from the lessons learned and go at it again. It is F A R better to have tried and failed than just setting it off to the archives.

One deep breath.... Ahh. One more for good measure...... Ahh

Ok, I need to clarify first that I am ONLY canning the ugly, unliked squeeze page, not my project (But I am modifying it due to new information.)

Lets get you back on track. Right now you only need a few things.
              1. A report
              2. A Domain

              5. A series of emails to send to sell the product you are offering
"A report" - no, I was writing one, but I found my original product. It is a series of emails each containing one tip and how to implement it into your list building or email campaigns. While I only have 11 written, it is an open ended product that can be added to continuously.

              "A Domain" Got it!

"A Logo" Since I have redesigned the site, I think I'll not have any logo on the squeeze page, but I will use it in the blog section.

"A landing page..." Since I am adding the blog, I'm back to WP so I'll use my plugin that I know how to use to get the results I want. I can make several variations and let you vote on your picks.

"A series of Emails..." At least for now, this is going to be an affiliate site. I won't be selling my own product.

"Affiliate Products to Promote" (I added this one) I need something to promote related to list building and email marketing.

I am going to assume you have the report correct? If not, get to writting. Just get it done.
Yes, but it's a series of emails, not a book.

The domain.. you have that "Ninjalistsecrets.com" not a bad choice, no sense in trying to change things up, you have it, USE it.
Thank you, I think it's the best domain name I have. I love it.

The logo... You are over thinking this. Thank you for your offer, but I have that much I can spend. As for the logo, I am going to not use a logo on the squeeze page and I'll use the ninja I have for a logo on the blog. I don't think the ninja logo was bad, but the rest of the page with bad bullet points, dark background, meaningless text, etc was hated.
The landing page. i use Wordpress. All you have to do is create a page, use columns put your benefits to the left the optin to the right, or below. Using some quick code, you can remove the header and footer from the page. The more technical you get with this.. the more apt you are to struggle. The KISS method is the best plan here.
              ==== EDIT ====

I don't know what happened here, but I thought I answered it.

I changed my design based on new information I have on how people read and respond to emails. So, I am adding a blog to the site which means I am back to WordPress and not HTML. I have a plugin that I do know how to use and edit proficiently, so I can make several squeeze pages in just a matter of minutes. I'll post a few designs on the site for everyone to check out.

              ==== End Edit ====

I abandoned the idea of releasing the book I intended to release. After thinking about what I went through, I asked my friend, John, "What kind of idiot tries to teach someone how to set up a squeeze page in an hour when he can't get his own up in two weeks?" We got a good laugh out of that.

It finally dawned on me to use the tips I already wrote and add to them. After all, this domain is about the "list", list building and list marketing. So, instead of taking time out to reinvent the wheel again, I plan to use what I have and build on it. It's an open-ended product that I can add to the site as often as I learn new tips.
The rest of the pages should be easy to put together after this.

On the landing page.. you need a list of benefits. WHY should I download your report? give me 5 reasons why.
You answered my next question for you, 5 benefits. I was going to ask for a number. Does anyone else have a suggested number that seems to work best for them?

Again not saying any of this to be mean.. Right now you are thinking, and its just setting you up for failure without actually getting the project off the ground. Start doing, and follow through step by step. If after that you failed.. you can say you tried, learn from your mistakes and rebuild from the lessons learned and go at it again. It is F A R better to have tried and failed than just setting it off to the archives.
While I am anxious to get this done, and now I'm at the starting point again, I am very far from giving up. I am actually pumped up a bit more now than when I made my first post here. (or is that the coffee I just finished?)

The Bible says that a righteous man falls seven times, and he gets up seven times. It's a principle of success. We fall, we get up. We do not fail until we don't get up.

This experience is like Thomas Edison said (about), "I have not failed, I have successfully ruled out 2000 materials that will not work for a light."

I have successfully ruled out two squeeze pages (and a book) that didn't work.

Thank you, Savidge4, for the time you took to help me and encourage me.

Thank you to all readers for any input you have towards moving forward.

Tomorrow (oops, now it's today) I have a full day with work and my daughter, so I may not get to this project. But, Tuesday, I stand a chance of having a good stretch of time to make several squeeze pages that you folk can vote on for your favorites.

Again, thank you all and have a great week!

              ==== PS ====

My new design now requires the following:

Squeeze Page - (Currently my biggest nightmare, LOL)
Support pages - (confirm and thank you)
              Autoresponder - YES
              20-30 emails - working
              Blog -
              Wordfence Security - YES

First off... way to go with this! I think with reading and writing on this type of format things get conscrewed... After this response, what appeared to be a derailment waiting to happen seems a bit more stream lined. Good Job.

Some advice.. affiliate site or not ( meaning selling your own product ) Its all the same. YOU have a product ( if its yours or not ) and you are selling said product. The only hint of difference between the 2.. with offering affiliate product you want to think more about " Pre - Selling " vs your own product you would directly sell.

With affiliate product, you will be sending them to a " Sales " page, so your efforts should fall short of " Selling " and fall more towards " Pre - Selling " Hype it up, make it larger than life ( within reason of course ) and let the actual sales page do the job. replicating the sales pagge on your site, and sending the prospect to yet another sales page.. tends to diminish conversions

I dont know if you have or have not bought the product you will be selling. The content for your blog, for your newsletter, and for the optin should be synergistic to the product you are selling.

In terms of " List building " content options are endless. The 5 points I pointed out to you in the last post. More direct points like headlines. The point I make above about pre-selling... all would make for content worth reading.

I would suggest you do want to type of freebie for the exchange for the e-mail address... again keep it in line contextually with the e-mail newsletter AND the product you are selling. Consistancy is pretty critical, and something that is more often than not over looked!

                Hoping the best for you!

    AN UNRELATED SIDE STORY

Mondays are my busiest days due to work and my wife and daughter's schedules. I get up by 5:30 and I'm on the run until 730 PM. Needless to say, I don't expect to get anything done on Mondays.

Yesterday was typical Monday. But, instead of eating supper before my daughter's swim lessons, we at after we returned at about 8:00 PM. But, there was a problem getting supper. My wife wanted Italian, but did not realize we have a very good Italian restaurant that delivers. So for half an hour she was looking for their menu, but the menu link goes to a GoDaddy "site not set up" page.

I've met the owner and he comes across as a very friendly, happy man and everyone who I know that has ever worked for him says he's the greatest person to work for. We really enjoyed supper and want to order again soon. So, I asked myself, "Why Not?"

    Piccolos – Chicago Style Pizza Since 1977 —– (828) 757-3554

Now, my wife can find the online menu.

The site didn't take me 20 minutes to set up and add the images and text. I stole the images of his store from a Google search and posted only the biggest and least blurry ones I found. It took me over two hours to scan and clean up the menu which is on yellow-green paper, torn and smudged with marinara sauce.

Sometime today I'll take a break and go by his shop and show him his gift. Maybe we can find better pictures and/or some hosting for him.

    Getting back on track......

First, the Piccolo's owner was out of town this week. so I haven't shown him the site yet. Sorry there's no better update for that.

Then my manager saw the site and wants one even if the owner doesn't. OOPS, well she will see I get paid, LOL... That project will be coming soon.

Finally, after 5 days off and on with tech support, I learned that neither HostGator nor RapidCrush were the reason I could not move one of my WP sites to another domain..... RTFM! ! ! I didn't delete the script that does the restore, so when I did an update, the obsolete version overwrote the active script during the restore process causing a crash!

Now, back to where I belong.... My squeeze page..

I set up 6 squeeze pages on NinjaListSecrets.com

    The home page:
    Ninja List Secrets
    Pages
    NinjaListSecrets.com/s1
    NinjaListSecrets.com/s2
    NinjaListSecrets.com/s3
    NinjaListSecrets.com/s4
    NinjaListSecrets.com/s5

The autoresponder code isn't setup so if you "subscribe" it will just send you back to the page without collecting your emails.

Let me know which, if any, squeeze page you like best.

    Thanks
    Buck

But for giggles lets do this... you have a adwords ad.. " click here to learn how to create a responsive list " and then link off to #3. Would you enter your e-mail address? I wouldn't.

Web Site Design more specifically, and web page design a little more loose about it,I have a principle I follow. 5 W's and an H. Who What Where When Why and How. On any given page you want to answer as many of these as you can.

On a Sales page you really want to answer at least a few of these. " Do you want to build a responsive e-mail list in as little as 30 days? " Starts to identify the who ( being thee reader ) and when ( in as little as 30 days ). " Click here to have access the free Case study that shows you bullet point 1, bullet point 2, bullet point 3 etc " What they are getting and How it may help them.

If the bullet points match the " Pain " or the issue the reader is having in developing a list.. you are on your way to a conversion.

The home page image is super strong. It just needs the 5W's and an H.

    Hope that Helps!

I vote #3 as well, with the points listed above.

Additionally, I'd work on your hosting speed configuration. I tested on Pingdom from New York City, and your main URL took 1.98 seconds to react, and the Ninja List Secrets » Squeeze Page 3 URL took another 1.09. That might not seem like a lot, but people are impatient.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the advice. In general, I already know this but reading it gives me a more specific focus on what to work on. It is helpful.

Thank you Slate, I was wondering about that myself. My computer is often multi-tasking with things like backups from websites and other computers in the house. I noticed a lag, and was wondering if it was me or the site.

I do know that in order to set up the variety of squeeze pages, I would overload WordPress with the plugin I am using. That's also why I am ditching that plugin and theme in the near future.

It's also on shared hosting so I don't know how much of it is hosting or the site itself.

Either way, for now, I am going to focus on setting up the squeeze page.

I see the only votes are for #3, my favorite, too. So, I'll work on developing that one next.

Thank you both for your input.

    Progress Report

I don't have any progress to report here, but I think I need to clarify what is going on with both this challenge and my new challenge, "Inspired by the Jogging Blogger".

When I started this challenge, a friend and I were working on a plan where we could produce automated sales funnel sites to "make money". But, after we got started, we both realized that it wasn't in either of our passions.

In John's case, he already had most of what he needed done to go live. I believe he plans to go live Monday, so it was definitely in his best interest.

My passion is to have a PLR site that is also a mission to help others get started writing articles for PLR and by order, hopefully building up to the writers owning their own business. NinjaListSecrets can't contribute to that goal, so when I finish the challenge here, I will probably sell it.

Will the other challenge affect this one? No. The other challenge is more for building a habit of writing daily. It starts with my writing a minimum of 1 article each week and builds until I have produced 10 article packs of 5 articles.

Today, I wrote my first article, approximately 600 words in about 3 hours of extremely interrupted work. I rewrote it twice. You can read about it on my other challenge.

I sincerely believe it will be a disservice for those of you watching this thread, either as it unfolds or in the future if I abandon it and move to my other project.

The other challenge is active but rebuilding my PLR site is on hold (so is building a website for my boss) until I get this challenge completed.

This week has been slow and next week will be slow as well. My family is getting my 10 year old daughter ready for a talent show audition next week. She plays the violin and has a great act prepared with her friends.

Don't give up on me.... I hope to have another update soon.

Weekends here are very unpredictable which is why I don't plan on making progress on the weekends.

This weekend, we had two events cancelled due to rain, but my daughter was offered an overnight stay with a friend. My wife picked up some extra hours at work, and that left me with a surprising amount of uninterrupted time to work! (If you don't count the cats who took naps in my arm while I was working.

Today, I am happy to report that my status is COMPLETED!

I finished the squeeze page, which was actually finished, I just had to add the autoresponder, and the confirmation page.

What I did NOT do, was load the articles into the autoresponder.

Now, I did not overlook the advice to add the bullet points. I actually spent over an hour at the marker board thinking of what they would be. But two things kept me from adding the list.

The first is that my product is/was only a sequence of emails that would be giving helpful tips several times a day. These are subject to change as the times change. In fact, the first change is the Chrome Slap by Google coming out later this week.

Additionally, the bullet points I came up with were pretty wordy. Squeeze Page #3 that you folk liked best, isn't designed for bullet points, especially as long as they were. I wasn't happy with any of the shorter versions.

I started to squeeze them in, and the whole page quickly became distorted, so I just canned the idea at all.

I did add a downloadable product after all. When you enter your email, you are sent to the page to download the "Bonus" book, 3000 leads in 30 days. It seemed like the perfect compliment to the original theme of the squeeze page.

I thought about changing it around so the daily tips would be the bonus. The only real difference would have been a few words on the download page when you enter your name and email to subscribe.

    DEBRIEF

My original plan for this site was to set up a simple HTML squeeze page with an affiliate marketing funnel. Then, build a series of products to upsell in the site funnel and through emails. Then after building it up, I would move on and rinse and repeat.

My first setback came when I discovered that the simple squeeze page I chose required code from GetResponse in order to have the appearance I was expecting. If that wasn't enough, the second one required Aweber.

With those two failing, I resurrected my old site (images above) which no one liked. Even I grew to dislike it by the time I changed it, LOL.

So, I did some compromising and, instead of using the HTML pages, I fell back on WPProfitBuilder to build my squeeze page and my download page. I am quite adapt at using it, so I just jump started my site with one of it's squeeze page templates. It's very effecient at what it does.

But it has its setbacks too, That simple site is about 200 MB in size and uses thousands of files. It is a real resource hog as noted by my friend in New York who pointed out the delayed response.

To be honest. By the time I switched over from the Ninja theme to the brighter squeeze pages the site is using, I was READY TO GIVE UP! And, there is really no benefit for me that I have completed the site phase 1 as planned.

As mentioned above, my passion and mission is a site to sell PLR where I can find and train people who need extra income to write and sell articles. I realized that the direction I was taking with NinjaListSecrets was taking me down a path further away from that dream and goal.

So, I'll leave NinjaListSecrets.com up a few days so anyone here can see it if they like. But, I am moving on to my passion site.

The number one biggest reason I did not quit is you people who are encouraging me along and watching my progress. I feel I would have been a discouragement instead of encouragement. Instead, I proved to you and myself, that if I stick to it, in spite of the setbacks, I can complete it.

What I don't want is for anyone following along or reading now, to be discourage by the fact that I am dropping that site. Because, for the affiliate marketing business, it is a viable tool. One squeeze page, one download page and one free product can be the start of a profitable career in promoting affiliate products to your list.

If you are using a higher tech autoresponder like Aweber or GetResponse, you can build a squeeze page like the one I just built in only a few minutes.

Aweber and GetResponse both give 30 day free trials, so you don't need to go with a cheap service like I did. I just used what I had and now I know how much more valuable the other autoresponder services actually are.

    About my passion site CuttingEdgePLR.

Yesterday afternoon, after my daughter left and my wife took a nap, I erased the points I tried to use in the squeeze page and took a break. During that break, I started working on my passion site. In just a few hours, I built three prototype sites and finally the final version. This morning, I completed everything but the squeeze page.

NO- It's not the best looking eCommerce site I have ever seen, but it is functional! It will work until I can afford to hire someone to build a pretty one. In much less time than it took me to build a "one hour" squeeze page, (LOL) I built an entire eCommerce site and added one of Arun's PLR packages to it.

Other than adding products, it needs a squeeze page (here we go again) and I need to connect the payment button to the autoresponder as well.

Other than that I just need to add product and a few pages of details like about pages, etc.

After completing the PLR site, I was more motivated to finishing up the List Site.

I really feel great about my accomplishments this weekend but I had hoped to have been able to show newcomers how quickly and easily they could set up a squeeze page.

After tonight, I'll answer questions and concerns about this challenge, but for me, the challenge is over.

My other challenge, writing PLR has just started. Now that I have my PLR site up, I am more motivated and excited than ever to get back to working on PLR.

Then, there's the squeeze page.... LOL

    Was this a Failure?

What do you think? My title is "Beginning Again". My PLR site is further along than I had planned for the NinjaListSecrets site and it is capable of making money Right Now! (It's just not stocked for it.) I am finally excited again to be back in the Internet Marketing Business!

Thank you ALL for your words of encouragement and advice! I do really appreciate it.

Maybe when I know better how to plan one, I'll start another challenge, too.
