[JOURNEY] Building a $1000 per month Business from Android Apps

Hey Everyone,
I have been creating Android apps since last 4 years and have made good money from admob. All the apps created were niche based apps so far like religious apps, relationship apps, self help, hacks etc. All the money earned has been from admob

Today, I am starting with a new developers account and new admob. My plan is to build a email list + reach $1000 per month from this account in next 3 months. This will be more or less like an experiment because I will be reskinning source codes from codecanyon and other marketplaces from where we can simply get android apps source codes and reskin them.

I have tried reskinning in past unsuccessfully but with content based apps slowly dying, I decided now reskinning is the way to go again.

Plan: Publish atleast 1 android app per day for next 30 days and then do small promotions via Bing, twitter and IFTTT.

Wish me luck and Lets get started. I will try to update this thread once a week.

  • Update: 2 APPS published yesterday. My developer decided to work for me on sunday. Purchased 2 templates/source codes from codester. One is a coloring book and another one is daily fitness app.

    Both apps published and available on Google play.

      If U use templates and decide to reskin them, it should not take u more than a few hours lets say 6-7 hours to reskin the app.
      Publishing it can take another 30-45 minutes.

      I have my developer who is reskinning these templates for me because he is proficient in android studio and eclipse.

    • ok, so I have to ask... you can " produce " the apps.. but what are you doing to foster sales? just putting them up? or is there some base that you are working with to help promote your products?

  • I believe that if like to earn real money from apps you need to know that this is a large market with big sarks, buying templates is nice but you need a very good app for successes. I can give you a tip that may help you, not only good app you need, you also need to do an ASO and this may help you rank higher in the app market. good luck.

  • Update: Published 15 apps so far, made $10 last month and $4.5 this month.

    Last 5 days, no apps were published as I was on a spiritual tour but previous apps have got some downloads automatically.

    The apps have started to get more downloads automatically. Once I reach 30 apps, I will start with marketing of apps.

    Now, using IFTTT to post on social media sites for free traffic. Revenue is increasing day by day without any work.

  • I like your idea. I am also a software developer. I also started a business by purchasing some source codes and then modified them. BUT, do you have authenticity to use those code?? Means from where you are buying, did they provide you resell license or authority to re sell them?? Make sure about it before go for a sale. Otherwise it can lead you to big trouble.

  • Making $7 per day now with these apps. I think I have to create more apps or maybe do some more promotions of my apps.

    My previous content based apps have also started making more money in last 1 month so I am updating them with new content also.

    • You basically need to find a Android apps developer who has good experience working with android studio. If you can hire someone full time, it will be great. He can work for you and create apps. U can then sell your apps as well as make money via admob.
      There are templates for android apps available at codecanyon and other marketplaces.
      A good developer can easily modify the templates in about 2-3 hours and integrate your admob codes inside apps.

  • May i know where is the source of the android apps? Did you make by your own? How can you create and publish at least 1 app/day?

    • You can use templates from codecanyon and chupa mobile. The templates range from $20 to $50 depending upon what kind of apps u wanna create and publish.

      If you have a knowledge of android studio or know someone who can do that for you, for them creating 1 app everyday by reskinning template codes is a piece of cake.

    After reading this one I'm thinking that maybe I can add another income stream by building and selling apps just like this. Still watching this one to see how you finish!

    • This has taken a backseat in last 1 month or so because I have a lot of content based apps which I created in the past which will be disabled by November 1 if I don't update the SDK (which means I need to upload new version of my apps) on playstore.

      I now make between $7-$10 daily with these apps but my content based apps make well over $300/day so I need to edit them before I work on these apps again.

  • The chance of your apps being deleted by Google for fast publishing is pretty high.

      Well, every day u can publish atleast 5 apps if your developers a/c is a little older.

      If it's a new account, u can publish 2 apps a day easily. I have been doing apps since 6 years and always do kind of similar things with a new a/c.

    • Around $12 per day from admob + a 100 people in my get response list.
      I am finding it hard to find good templates for a reasonable price now. Don't want to create and publish crappy apps or apps which are too simple and have hundreds of clones already.

  • HarrieB : thank you for sharing this with us, it really motivates me to start Reskinng, and i have a question if you don't mind:
    i want to start but i think that i will have problem when google play banne my account when there is something wrong with the application, because i hear a lot of people in my country (Morocco) talk about that problem, so i'm asking you how do you resolve that problem? because when your account is banned you need an other credit card to oppen a new developer account...

    • Major problem people have is they are too worried that their account will get suspended. So, they never start with that method at all.
      Read articles on google on how to avoid bans if you are reskinning.
      A thing that u need to reconsider is changing all the assets (Images) and using copyright free images inside your apps. Before reskinning, check how many clones of that template are already there in google play, how many sales that template has on the marketplace from where you are purchasing the template.

      If an app is rejected/suspended, u can always contact Google with a explanation and many times, google accept your appeals.

      If u do 3 violations (suspensions/rejections) in real quick time , let say 1 month, ur account can get suspended quickly. Whenever a suspension occurs, try to work around that problem by asking Google how to fix it, what is wrong inside the template and the employees will respond to your queries.

  • Update: Making $20 per day with reskinned apps. I have duplicated some apps by changing graphics and have around 60 apps at present.
    I am not getting enough time as well as good source codes to reskin. Many templates had more than 100 sales and a lot of competition already so it won't be wise for me to buy those templates as my app will never outrank apps which are already sitting in first 5-10 positions as they already have tons of downloads and good reviews.

    Great Journey! For me the most interesting part is your previous experience in content-based apps and earnings from AdMob You have mentioned that made good money from AdMob. Could you share please how much You have made? It is in x xxx$ range or even in $xx xxxx?

    • I am creating apps since almost 5 years. I started with android studio and complex apps but then moved to content based apps coz there was very little competition when I started with them.

      I still make good money from those apps but cannot disclose the income here as doing it is against the policy of WFO and will be considered as self promotion.

      This thread was started to tell people about using reskinning and templates to publish apps on google play. I see very less people talking about android apps here.

  • Update: I am making almost $30 per day from my reskinned apps and games these days. 1 of my app seems to be very popular with Nigerians so I am also running ads to promote that app to Nigerians.

    Spent $10 so far and I have 460 clicks to my app as of today. I am sure even if 30% people install my app, it will still be about 150 additional installs in only $10 which is great.

    • THIS is someone paying attention to data, and acting on it. I LOVE to see this, and look for the same types of things day in and day out. Most of the timeit is not really what it is you are offering as it is understanding WHO is most likely to use / buy what it is you are offering. And as this post suggegsts... targetting people based on interest or geography is extremely cost effective!

  • Hello HarrieB.. I also following you. I reskinned app. But the google new privacy policy against me. They told me to update my apps permissions. I couldn't do that coz without that permissions my app can't work properly.

    I like to know is there any of your app get that kind of issues & what's the lataset of your journey?

    • In your app, have a privacy policy which mentions all the permissions ur app requires and why app needs them... Please mention the full message that google sent to u and maybe i can assist.

  • Update: I am earning close to $40 per day now and have made more than $1000 in last 30 days so my journey is successful. My income is stable right now and is between $35-$45 every day although no work has been done nor any new app published in last 15 days.
