Journey To a Niche Facebook Group - Follow Me

A few months ago I started this journey and got side tracked with too many other projects. Now I am on top of everything I am ready to give this a good shot.

My goal is to build a large facebook group of 1000 to start with and then on to 5000 etc.

Facebook groups are hot right now and it is a great opportunity to build an extremely targeted and passionate following that you can promote to on a regular basis once you provide value first.

Steps taken so far;

I am going with the dog niche. I googled the top breeds in the USA and then had a look at some facebook groups where there are lot of very passionate members in the 1000"s sharing all types of information and recommending certain products.

I joined a lot of these groups and I am seeing a pattern of the type of posts which are getting the most engagement. "Suggest a name for this cute (Dog Breed)" "Post the first pic ever of your (Dog Breed)"

My group has been created although there are no posts, getting the group moving is the biggest step. The group covers I designed myself on canva.com

I also started a blog using the Ad Mania theme. No posts on the blog yet but eventually once the group gets moving I will direct traffic to the blog. The aim is to have a high value fb group and a high value blog at the same time.

Next steps;

Putting the first pieces of content together for the group and to start getting the first members in the door.

I've hit one snag today. My Facebook page which I have associated with the group has a red warning stating that it is unpublished due to some terms being broken and there was a link for me to appeal which I did.

I have many pages and never seen this before.

The other thing is that there is no content. There is a cover and one pinned post with some guidelines, that's it, so I'm not sure how this could happen without any substantial content.

Facebook Pages are now at the stage HubPages was in 2012. Facebook is over... move on.

Thank you for your input however, the focus is not the page, it's the group. Saying Facebook is over and to move sounds very defeatist and I have to respectfully disagree with you.

There is massive opportunity with Facebook right now and I know marketers who are pulling in seriously big numbers.

If Facebook changes it's just a matter of adapting and not giving up so quickly.

I have one with 9,995 likes. What does that matter? I had over 10,000, but I guess a few got tired of waiting for me to do something with it.

It's Facebook. The goal was to prove that I could get 10,000 likes. Beyond that, I have no interest in the platform. I actually did this to prove a point to someone that wanted me to build a forum for them and a matching FB space, which I did.

I think it took me 3 days and a little over $100 in ads to reach the goal. Not hard to do, at all. Not even something I would call a challenge.

Likes are meaningless - just as in real life. :-)

Friendly reminder - Can we please keep this thread on topic.

This has nothing to do with Facebook pages or likes. I'm not entirely sure how a single comment saying I have a Facebook page with over 5000 likes adds any value.

It is a journey to a niche Facebook group of hungry buyers which I believe every one on the forum can potentially benefit from provided it is kept on topic.

You brought up FB - and the topic will veer off a bit here and there - that's the nature of a forum. Obvious spam is deleted here but you won't have total control of what is posted in a thread even when it is 'your' thread.

Even more reason to stay on topic in your own posts - if others make comments about FB, answer only the comments that fit with what you are doing. The more focused you are on your goal and your efforts to reach the goal...the better the thread will be.

You put that so much nicer than I ever could have. For once, though - I decided to pass. :-)

I'm getting soft in my old age. Not a good sign.

FaceBook Groups can certainly be effective . . . I watched a webinar from one of the "big IM guys" who recommends them, and uses them himself.

    I hope yours goes well

      Thanks buddy.

      Progress update

Ok so just to confirm. I am using my page only to filter people into my group. I have started posting viral type content daily on my page with a link encouraging visitors to join the group. I am also posting daily content within the group as well.

So far I now have around 55 people in the group. I have not spent anything so far apart from securing a domain.

I am going to invest in a tool called Social Kickstart it looks really amazing for curating viral content. With Social Kickstart I will be able to line up and schedule content within minutes to be automatically posted to my group and page from a single dashboard.

As well as that I have been commenting on pages using my page as the commenter if that makes sense and commenting in groups hoping that people will visit my profile and see a link to my group..

I will continue to do this for about a week more before I start any paid advertising.

Looks good! The paid ads will dramatically boost the number of people.

    Looking forward to your results!
