2000 per month revenue in 6 months? First try at local lead generation and how I get it done

Welcome to my warrior path thread where I will try to keep track of the progress I make on my first attempt at local lead generation for small businesses. I want to make $2000.00 per month in revenue from local lead generation within 6 months of starting on it.

I am a web designer in the United States and I want to have a different way to earn money while providing value to small businesses through local lead generation. Feel free to give me feedback on what you think about my strategy and if you have advice for me on here. I have received a lot of advice and tips here on the forum and I want to put some of that information to use on there.

Path: I am building websites for a few different types of businesses. I will write a lot of content for each website and use seo to try to rank them online. I may eventually use paid advertising but at first I am only using seo on there. I want to get the websites in google my business maps listings but I do not know if I will be able to do that unless I use my own address for it. I am using call tracking and would have contact forms on the websites. When I start getting leads I am going to send a few for free to the business to let them try the leads out then offer to keep sending leads to them for a fee. I do not know yet if I am going to try to charge per lead or rank and rent the websites monthly or maybe try to do it on commission instead. I am also thinking about maybe trying a method where I take the calls myself and make appointments for the business then have a fee per appointment that I make for them on there.

Websites:
  • Painting
  • Water Mold Damage Repair
  • Plumbing
  • Tree Removal
  • Event Entertainment

I am using the city I am in in the domain name for each website. I will probably build more websites for different types of businesses if I start making money from any of the websites.

What I want: I want to prove to myself that local lead generation works for me. There are a few steps to my goals with this.
  1. I want to get my first lead from the websites - I want to be at this goal within 2 months of starting the work. It will likely take a few weeks for the search engine optimization to start working and rank the websites on there.

  2. Then I want to get to where I am making at least $100.00 per month from the websites - I want to be at this goal within 3 months of starting the work.

  3. Then I want to get to where I am making at least $1000.00 per month from the websites - I want to be at this goal within 4 months of starting the work.

  4. Then I want to get to where I am making at least $2000.00 per month from the websites - I want to be at this goal within 6 months of starting. Then at this point I plan to make this my full time business instead of doing web design work.

What I have done: - For each website I am writing lengthy pages of content for the services and information on each. I am using on page seo to try to rank them higher in search results on there. Writing each of the services pages takes a while so it will take a bit of time to build out each website.

  • Painting Website - I have registered the domain and started building the website. I have 5 pages of content on the website so far and have been adding to it daily.

  • Mold Water Damage Repair Website - I have registered the domain and started building the website. I have 3 pages of content on the website so far and have been adding to it.

  • Plumbing Website - I am planning to register the domain this week then start building the website.

  • Tree Removal Website - I am planning to register the domain this week then start building the website.

  • Event Entertainment Website - I have registered the domain and started building the website.

The work I am doing on these is in addition to my regular web design work but I do try to spend a few hours each day working on this work.

If you have questions please let me know. If you have advice for me I definitely would like to hear it. Thank you!

The 'plans' are rather general (and much like what you've posted in the past) - things you want to do - might do - may not do...and the only specifics listed are the amounts of money you want in certain time frames.

As long as you are working toward your goals and posting a couple time a week listing what you have DONE and what you are planning....you can find help/support. Threads that become diaries or constantly changing goals/plans may eventually be closed by mods. The purpose of "Warrior Path" is to get YOU moving toward your goals. Anyone can set $$$$ goals - those are dreams until you have a specific plans of action for the sites you mention - and are working on the plan.

Set goals for your timeline and update twice a week and stay on track - you may be surprised at what you can accomplish when you force yourself to be accountable in a thread like this.

    Good luck.

Thank you. I have edited the post to list what I have done so far. This is in addition to my regular web design work but I am trying to put in a few hours of work on this project each day on there.

Do you think creating 5 websites all at once is going to be easy to get off the ground ? You have big goals and hope you are successful, but you may struggle a bit trying to build 5 all at once. Seems like a lot of work at content building plus marketing at the same time.

I totally understand what you are saying here. For your average marketer YES, I totally agree with 1 at a time type of mentality. However, like myself he is a "Service Provider" and more than one ( we hope ) on any given day is a norm.

In theory, the structure for all 5 should be pretty close to the same so doing that once and then replicating and color changes is not such a big deal. Logo's and whatever other creatives take a bit of time.. and then after that its content content content. and having 5 topics to research and write on actually helps reduce the monotony of it all.

For the community at large... could you do a blow by blow work flow of 1 site? Being pretty specific... Got URL, loaded wordpress, changed some CSS, did this did that... set navigation etc. I think a lot of people would get something out of the workflow of someone that does this for a living. - thanks

Thank you. I know it is a lot of work but I wanted to try a few different businesses with this to give it a good opportunity to work instead of trying one or two and if those do not work maybe decide not to keep working at it. I want to see it work even if only a little at first and use that to motivate me to put more work into it. I want to put in the work now so that the websites have time to rank in search engines. It is a lot of work writing the content but I am mostly doing one website at a time on there.

Thank you. That is right. I am used to working on a few different things during the day. It does help keep things more interesting writing about a few different kinds of businesses instead of spending hours only writing about one kind of business. Like you detailed the design part of doing a few websites is easier too because I can use mostly the same design and layout for the websites on there.

The main advantage that I want from doing a few of the websites at a time is more opportunity for it to work with at least one of the websites and that helping to motivate me to put more work into it on there.

I wanted to post an update. I am still working on writing out the service pages and adding text and optimizing it for each of the websites. I have a potential marketing client that I may build a lead generation website or two for depending on which monthly marketing plan he wants to do. I am mostly working to finish the painting website first then the water and mold damage restoration website then work on the next one. The writing of the content is taking a while because I am not an expert in these fields so I have to research about the services then write the content in my own words and make it easy to read and long enough in my opinion for optimization on there.

I wanted to post an update for this project. I am still working on it and I almost have the painting website done. I have a new marketing client that I am building a lead generation website to rent to him monthly for tree service so I am working on that too. I have not been posting much in here because it looks like the rule does not like you using the forum like a journal so I am only posting updates when there is new information for the project to put on there.

Good luck with your efforts. I am also working on lead gen sites myself, 4 at the moment. As for content, I am keeping it pretty simple, as to not distract from the goal of the potential client entering their contact info. After observing other successful lead gen sites, they look almost identical to squeeze pages, with focus on collecting the lead, without causing information overload. I find myself guilty of overthinking things at times, when a lot of time the best way is simplicity. Also for content ideas, you can go to reddit, and search out the top 5 articles in your niche, and then copy and paste key points, and then paraphrase the information, avoiding plagiarism. I can't wait to see your great results you are going to get. I have faith in your success!
