The Affiliate Path [Journey to my first sale]

Hi Warriors,

The name is Chris for those that don't know me. I am posting in the Warrior Path to keep accountable for my progress and will be posting updates twice weekly. I will be updating on a Monday and Thursday night of my progress.

Goal

1 Sale
This may sound stupid but this challenge will only last until I make 1 sale. Then I will create a new challenge that will focus on 10 sales.

Strategy
Email Marketing

Overview
  • I will be creating a comprehensive email course that will be sent daily to subscribers for the duration of the course.
  • I will create a mailing list with Aweber and setup the course to go out to new subscribers so they receive one email per day. In each email, I will embed the affiliate link to the product.
  • I will create a squeeze page to collect email addresses for the course.
  • I will drive targeted traffic to the squeeze page through online ads such as Google Ads and will look at other providers.

Progress-to-date:
  • I picked a niche I am passionate about which is weight loss. I have lost 13kg in the last 3 months.
  • The product I am promoting is a clickbank product called Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic. (link removed by mod)
  • I have done extensive audience research for my product. I know what country, what states, what they do, what the age group is, what gender to target.
  • I invested about $20 in about 4 different PLR products in the niche of weight loss. I used content from 3 of those products to create my 30+ day email course. I disregarded the junk content and extracted the gems for my course.
  • I have completed all the emails in a word document text format.

To do:
  1. Create the emails in Aweber.
  2. Design my squeeze page.
  3. Setup targeted ads. (Based around my audience research.)

Testing and Tweaking:
1. Split test ads and optimise every 3 days to increase performance.
2. Review Aweber analytics and tweak headlines and content to increase subscriber response.

The testing and tweaking is the rinse and repeat step for me until I make my first sale. Wish me luck and if you have any advice that you think would help me succeed. Please share it.

Kind Regards,
Chris

Does not sound 'stupid' at all - before you make 10 sales you need to make that first one...and it can take just as much effort as all the rest combined.

    Good luck to you.

    Day 5
    Earnings: $0

I have finally put all my content into an aweber drip feed campaign. The course is 32 emails long. I started another post in the email marketing section of the warrior forum a little while back and I have been given some good advice about how to make the content more interesting and drawing to the reader.

    https://www.warriorforum.com/email-m...ng-advice.html

Based off of the advice I have received. I realised that the course needs a lot more work. I have decided to compile it into a 14 days series that focuses on more compiled and better quality content.

Each email is going to be personalised and I'll focus on improving my writing to make it engaging and interesting for the reader.

    To do:
    • Between now and Thursday (my next post) I am going to aim to finalise all the content so I can move onto the squeeze page.
Please review my welcome email and feel free to critique it hard core and give me your honest feedback as I want to have the best chance at success. Below is a copy of the welcome email and is pretty much the structure of all other emails. Including paragraph layouts, picture and affiliate link placements.

So let me ask this... and I'm asking because its not so clear.. what exactly are you selling? Are you trying to jump traffic to the affiliate offer or are you selling a course?

THIS e-mail is technically not doing either... and if the following e-mails are structured the same.. well they are not going to sell anything either.

The affiliate link is just kind of there at the bottom.. there is no CONTEXT to why its there. To use the term "Sponsored by" is probably working more against you than for you. You are no longer Christopher that lost 15 lbs in the last 3 months.. you are a paid spokesperson for some drug company. any credibility you may have gained... with this simple line you have thrown out the door.

Turning that into "this is a product I have been using with success on my journey of weight loss" adds context to the link ( why its there )

The bottom line in all of this.. this is the first e-mail in the series and you are afraid of the ASK. With each e-mail you wait for the ASK... the LOWER your conversions will be.

Learn how to lose 15 lbs in 3 months.. read this e-mail... read that e-mail... read the other e-mail... 3 weeks later.. hey buy this? It doesn't and wont work like that. You have the attention RIGHT NOW...they clicked on whatever link and gave you a name and an e-mail address because they want to start losing weight TODAY. You have to implement the ASK ( buy my course - or click my link of product )

      Hope that helps!

If a big part of your target market is the USA, you might consider changing kilos to pounds or putting the pounds in parentheses. Before I spent time overseas, I didn't know a kilo from a hole in the ground. I think a lot of Americans are that way.

Besides 33 pounds sounds more than 15 kilos.

Thank you for that reminder! I was meant to do that! My target audience is only America at this point.

I was also told by a certain someone in my family that the photo doesn't look professional at the bottom of the email in the signature so I'll have to work on that as well.

Why should it be stupid. you are just realistic that's what everyone starting with a new idea should be. But always the path to get the first sales is most times harder than getting 10 sales afterward. So be positive, keep doing it and stay focused until you do the sales.

Thanks buddy. I feel like the hardest thing is staying motivated through the whole plan. We can have an idea and work on it and then stop. I'm going to keep going.

Good luck with the journey. Stay focused and you will get that sale before you know it. I think this is a great target to shoot for.

  • A few things worth thinking about...

First: The smoker doesn't care about getting cancer in 10 years just as the fat person doesn't care about being skinny or dead or fatter in 10 years. If they did care, they wouldn't be fat. It's the NOW they struggle with, not the LATER.

Second: After your welcome email your open rates will drop. Don't piss about with tepid nonsense in your first email. Give me the first tip, like... NOW!

Third: The visuals + your tone doesn't speak to men. Well, maybe men who pretend to be women (enough of them about tbh). If you haven't already, pick either women or men. And you should pick an age group. In fact, you should go even narrower.

You don't stand out in that market unless you have something unique, different or new. Generic 'one-fits-all' won't cut it. If the product is generic, it doesn't mean you have to be.

Fourth: Why the shirt and tie? Are you helping accountants get thin?

This is golden info right here for free.

You have to think about what the person you are marketing to really wants right now. We live in an age where people don't have the patience to sit around forever. You have to learn how to mix what they need with what they want.
