I get a remote digital marketing specialist job.

Warriors:

I thought it would be cool to document my journey towards landing a full time digital marketing specialist job by December 21, 2022.

I think documenting my process and personal challenge might be helpful to others. Or at the very least it will help me stay accountable to others for reaching this goal.

I'm also hoping to get advice from more experienced digital marketers on here about this.

I have two 3-month digital marketing internships under my belt. I'm Inbound certified by HubSpot and I was certified in Google Ads and Google Analytics but the certifications have since expired. I have to take them again.

I did not complete my Bachelor's in marketing. I'm open to going back to school to complete the Bachelor's if necessary. Not sure how important that is though for landing a digital marketing specialist job.

I'm a long time fan of Warrior Forum.

Many thanks,
microhappiness

Experience is what matters more than anything else .Keep doing your research and learning online .

Why don't you start a youtube channel or a blog if you haven't already to document and share your journey.

I don't agree - he plans to document it HERE as a Warrior Path thread....spending time talking about what he's going to do - or the steps he's taking in multiple places takes time away from getting it DONE.

Documenting HERE leaves a record that can be used LATER to create a blog or videos after the goal has been reached.

    Quick update:

I had an idea of checking LinkedIn for the top results for currently working digital marketing specialists in my city and 9 out of 10 of these people had completed their Bachelor's degree.

This made me realize that maybe formal credentials are more important than I thought. So just in case, I registered for a couple of courses starting in January 2023 that will count towards my Bachelor's in marketing. It will take me about 16 months to complete the Bachelor's which feels like an eternity but I know it will fly by.

I will however continue to see if I can land a digital marketing specialist job without the formal credentials by December 21, 2022.

Right now, all I have is a goal. I need a plan to make it happen.

My next post will detail the plan I come up with.

My brainless strategy for getting a digital marketing specialist job by December 21, 2022:

Apply to 2 relevant positions a day. Every day. Starting on November 21, 2022.

I'm a big believer in keeping things simple. And in the power of small daily habits.

    Wish me luck!

If you have years of experience that would weigh in your favor....but when you applying as a new 'specialist' and your competition HAS the degree...you'll likely lose out. Actively pursuing a degree - even part time - will be in your favor.

It is not that everyone must have a degree - but you need to be able to compete with others seeking the same position.

You are doing exactly right to keep looking and putting in applications - sooner or later one of them will 'click'.

I must be missing something. Is getting a job a warrior path?? I thought the purpose of the warrior forum was to bring people together so they can learn to start and build their own internet businesses.

The "Path" to getting a job is to post resumes, fill out applications, and go on interviews.

You are creating a "Path" to a place that most people here on the forum are trying to get away from.

Honestly, there are people here who would do better with a 'digital marketing JOB' than they do working for themselves online.

If a thread is approved by admin (which this one was) it IS an acceptable path thread.

I am going to throw something into the mix here:

This is the Google course for "Digital Marketing & E-commerce Certificate" The first month is free. I would be willing to pay for 2 additional months ( WITH CONDITIONS ) that are $39 a month. The course is self paced and you should be able to complete the course in 3 months or less.

    THE CONDITION:

Using this thread, maybe not a day to day update but 2 3 times a week on the progress and a general overview of the course in general - as well as updates after the course is complete with the job placement process - that is a part of getting the certificate.

Basically what I would like to see from another persons perspective is how through the course is, how easy the course is to follow and what happens after the certification process. I THINK this type of information would be a great help to those thatare thinking of taking the course but not sure if what they say you will lear, and by earning the certification the ability to get a job.

As long as you have PAYPAL... start the course with the free trial... start posting updates on your progress and I will pay up to the following 2 months - $39 each months.

    Hope this helps!

I love this idea. I appreciate the offer. I'll do you one better though. If I choose to do the course, I'll pay for it myself and share my learning experience on here as well.

    Quick update:
I landed a digital marketing volunteer opportunity at a local nonprofit. It's not a paid gig but I feel like any extra work experience is valuable. I'm also still freelancing a little bit with a client and I am in talks with another potential client. I'll be meeting with him on Friday.

As for applying for jobs, my biggest issue is finding opportunities that look interesting enough to apply for. I'm 100% too picky and should be willing to take any digital marketing specialist job I can get at least at first to get into the industry so I will be working on that.

    More to come.

    Thanks again!

Good to see you have one opportunity now, with the possibility of another client on Friday. If you go through the course by Google and earn yourself the certificate. Do you think you will be able to continue to freelance?

Also thanks for coming back to this Path, please keep us posted on your progress.

    Quick update:

I signed up for the Digital Marketing & E-commerce Certificate by Google through Coursera.

Full disclosure: I had already started that certificate program in the past but didn't stick with it to the end. So I'm not starting from scratch. I believe there are 7 courses in the program and I already completed almost 2 of the 7.

The reason I quit the first time around was because I thought I already knew everything which is not a good mindset to have.

I'd love any advice or tips from other warriors on how I can get a digital marketing specialist job by December 21, 2022.

Also, if I don't reach the goal by December 21, 2022, I won't quit. I'll just try another approach.

Your thinking about this from the mind of a freelancer - private contractor - self employed type person.

YOU working in that capacity maybe do not need to take the course. You are relying on your ability to sell what it is you know. BUT to be an EMPLOYEE... the rules change. That particular Certification... and maybe multiple Certifications ( https://www.coursera.org/professiona...AaApdrEALw_wcB ) would be another course worth taking.

This is about stacking the resume with "Earned" skill sets vs self educated skill sets. Make sense? Spending an amount of time 40 to 240 hours of time and $60 to $120 to put these skill sets on your resume is down right priceless, and I would suggest a requirement of sorts by an employer.

The more certs you can throw under your belt the better - the greater your chance of landing a job - you go from a HR rep accepting skill level as an unknown to being "Certified", a drastic differnce in perception.

It's back to the drawing board for me.

I am going to change directions.

I have not been sending out resumes or posting on LinkedIn.

I did however enroll for a couple of courses for January that will count towards my marketing degree.

I also am still volunteering every week helping a small non profit with their digital marketing.

And I still have my one main digital marketing freelancing client who I am really enjoying with.

I had to say no to the new possible freelancing client because I don't want to spread myself any thinner.

I also have a full time day job that is not related to digital marketing. The end goal is still to replace that job with a digital marketing specialist job. And I have side projects in digital marketing in mind for the future as well.

      Cheers!

I realize you said you turned down a freelance client - too bad.

However, there are SO many small non profits around (and larger ones, too) - have you thought of leveraging your volunteer gig into becoming a 'freelance specialist' in digital marketing for small-medium non-profits that don't have the funds for a full time person? Charge reasonable fees....build up a clientele....in a year or so use THAT 'specialist' experience to find a full time job in digital marketing....perhaps for a larger non-profit (they often pay quite well).

Quick update: I'm going back to school as of January 9th. I will be taking 2 courses that will count towards my bachelor's of commerce in marketing degree. My end goal is still to get a digital marketing specialist job. I will continue to volunteer a couple of hours per week to gain more digital marketing experience. I also still have my main freelancing client who I will be assisting to gain even more digital marketing experience. I will also be continuing to take online courses and get more certifications. The last piece of the puzzle is that I'd like to start sharing my ideas on marketing somewhere but not sure where to do that as of right now.

You have a couple of options to document your journey. One would be setting up a blog or youtube channel. Another would be writing content or sharing information on your Linkedin profile. Then theirs the GaryVee Instagram challenge. Whatever you choose you can add that to this path thread. Or have questions someone should be able to help.

If you need an idea to set goals how to get the New Year off to a good start. You may want to view this thread and read the first 3 posts by the Original poster - https://www.warriorforum.com/mind-wa...nners-too.html

Courses are going great, thanks! I have not decided on where to share my ideas yet. I appreciate you asking because it motivates me to keep going with the job search. I'll be honest. I fell off the job search wagon but I'm back on as of today. I appreciate you keeping me accountable. I have a little free time tonight so I will do a 15+ minutes brain dump of any ideas that come to mind that might help me reach my goal of landing a digital marketing specialist job by March 21, 2023. I just need to come up with a realistic plan and make it happen.

  • Build your skills: Develop a strong understanding of digital marketing techniques and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices. Consider taking online courses or attending workshops to build your skills and knowledge.

Create a strong online presence: A strong online presence can help you stand out to potential employers. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date and showcases your skills and experience. You can also create a portfolio of your work to demonstrate your expertise.

Network: Attend industry events and conferences, connect with others in your field on social media, and reach out to people in your network to learn about job opportunities.

Apply for relevant jobs: Make sure you are applying for jobs that match your skills and experience. Customize your resume and cover letter for each job you apply for and make sure to highlight your relevant skills and experience.

Be persistent: Finding a job can take time, so it's important to be persistent and keep trying. It may take several applications and interviews before you land the job you want, so keep going and stay positive.

Update: I'm still in school. Passing my classes so far. Learning more about business in general every day. Still volunteering and freelancing a little bit. A mentor of mine suggested I focus on completing my formal education before taking on a digital marketing specialist job. Would love feedback from you guys. Would you focus on wrapping up formal education or just go straight for a digital marketing specialist job? I currently have a 30 hour per week part time job but it's unrelated to marketing and digital marketing. Pays the bills though while I continue working towards a better job, better salary, and a better life. My dream is still to get a digital marketing specialist job. Sooner rather than later ideally. Whether that means getting my diploma first or not, I'm sticking with this thing until I succeed. Of course, I'd much rather land a digital marketing role right now but my mentor thinks this will prevent me from completing my diploma. Any experienced marketers here with some advice?

Since this thread is 4 months old - and you don't have a job yet - the mentor may have a point.

There have been some massive layoffs (and some future ones hinted at) in the 'digital marketing job' fields. Some companies are cutting the 'deadwood' they added when business was booming - but the result is those with the most training (school) and experience will be the ones still working.

"a job in digital marketing specialist" is a broad description. I'd suggest for now you continue your studies and start to NARROW the job field to identify exact WHAT you want to do in 'digital marketing'.

I have a grandson who had the goal of 'video editing' - and he's a good example. When he asked me about it I told him he needs to do more work to FIND a field to work in...i.e., to specialize in. What are the chances 'video editing' will be a job taken over in large part by artificial intelligence? My advice was for him to pursue his interests but also to carry research the potential.

You have to balance 'what I want to do' with research about what jobs are likely to be available now, in 5 years, in 10 years, etc.

It may be time to close this path thread as these are not discussion threads but 'specific journey' threads.

Your best bet is to continue getting the degree and keep enrolling in courses even if you have to take night classes. If you wait till you are older you may never get the degree. Completing your degree will give you an advantage in applying for jobs over those who do not. Listen to your mentor about sticking to school

You quoted here "I also still have my main freelancing client who I will be assisting to gain even more digital marketing experience." Do you still have this client? If you do, them happy or at least use that on a resume for job experience.

Continue to send out resumes or do part-time internships in the area you want to work in. Even try doing freelance projects for more experience if you can. At least you have stuck with this path where so many others here abandoned them. Good Luck going forward!
