I got to admit this thread has become a bit confusing with all the questions but if you check the sales page as I have just done it does say you can do either, after all it is just a wp pluggin, I have not bought yet, waitting to make sure that this solution is technically sound. I would like to know how well it does with the mobile W3C test

Thanks for confirming that.

I'm sure a few people might find that useful info. I might even investigate that for myself.

@kenwarrior,

I'm waiting on the mobile W3C test, too...

Bad news! I just read the post #392 by genome58. It doesn't look too good...
If Irene resolves this, I'll jump in right away!

Hope she does!

This is an example how EZMSG can be used to promote mobile sites.

For the people that want to install this plugin on your customers servers and are worried about the plugin branding and your customers finding out who really made the plugin...

You Guys Are Selling Yourself Short!!!!

You guys are the offline experts and should present yourself that way! I would never give up control of a mobile site just because you think the customer wants that... Sure some have technical ability to do that but most don't want to be bothered (about 99%).

If you're worried about having to make updates (like a restaurant) then charge a monthly maintenance fee and have them send you the updates. You guys are the experts about online marketing. Stop selling yourself short!!! Don't give away the farm just because the customer asks...

You're job is to explain what happens if they take over control... things like WP maintenance, updates, compatibility, etc. They will have to do that themselves and then what happens when something breaks or stops working... Your reputation will be on the line!!! Because you sold them the mobile site plugin. Think about the long term effects of your actions...

Here's a good example. I'm currently working with a bank on a custom facebook fanpage. I charged them $497 for one page with analytics tracking. They asked how it worked and once I mentioned Wordpress they said "oh we have WP on our server... can you just install that on our servers and then we can update our own fanpage..."

I explained all about maint, upgrades, compatibility, backups, etc. I also said I spent about $1500 in development costs (a little marketing white lie) and if they wanted to pay $1500 for the plugin and then I could train 2 of their staff employees on how to use it for an extra $500. You see they had no idea about connecting WP to FB for the fanpages and all the other techy stuff that goes into creating and hosting a FB page. Their only experience with WP was writing blog posts and they thought the Fanpage would be the same way... That's where I sold myself as the FB Marketing expert with the technical capability to keep their Fanpage running smoothly.

The bank is deciding which way to go... So I win either way... They can buy it out right for $2000 or pay $497 for the page and pay me a monthly maintenance fee to update their FB page as needed. I've kept my reputation as the expert and now they are asking about my other services

So the point is... don't give in so easily to your customers and make sure you explain all the pitfalls of them trying to do it themselves... You are the expert so don't sell yourself short!!!

==================

A few people asked about pricing... It's really hard to say because each market area is different. Start low to get 1 or 2 under your belt and see how the plugin works... I live in an area with 60K population and I don't charge less than $497 for any of my smaller services. I will sell the first 2 mobile sites created with this plugin for a discount of $100 or $200 off the $497 price. The customer will feel like they are getting a deal and I will quickly get 2 example sites to show. A win for everyone!

Mobile sites are going to be HUGE this year because everyone has a phone with them! Don't sell yourself cheap just because they are easy to make!

====================

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread about w3c validation. That testing method uses some old parameters that go back to the pre IE 5 days. A lot of those checks don't apply to today's standards so I'm not concerned about that at all.

I don't think a clean install of WP will pass the w3c test. It's been awhile since I tried. Of course a plain jane HTML site will pass 100% but then you are stuck with a boring brochure style html site... which could be fine for some customers.

Someone mentioned the speed of the website loading... THAT is the real test factor. Make sure your page loads quickly! Irene is smart that she is using CSS to control her colors and not background images. Until mobile phones get faster I wouldn't be in a rush to add a bunch of background image capability or anything else to slow the page load down...

I completely agree with your post about pricing structure. Don't give this away or obsolete yourself by giving too much information. The businesses you bring this service too will make thousands more than what we charge them if we do our jobs right.

I do have to disagree slightly on this point though because I would like to add background images or textures. In some situations it will be necessary even (when competing on looks) and there are ways to manage file sizes either by using repeating images or heavily compressed images but at least I'd like the OPTION.

Great job cicolino! I wish I could read german but it looks like each menu item is taking them to the same sales page and thats a great idea too! It gives them a feel for what the site could look like without a complete build out.

But, it shows the versaltity - the site's can be in any language.

I had a helpdesk enquiry about Right-to-Left languages today, and I think I can do that without any major change to the plugin.

I have a few more ideas for other enhancements too.

If anyone suggests more enhancements, then I will evaluate those for inclusion too.

And if anyone wants to show example sites, I'd be happy to get them and add them to a "User Gallery"

To get the mobile version on a domain, you need to create a subdomain, called "m" in the TLD (Top Level Domain). When you create the subdomain, you must define the Document root path with public_html_yourdomain.com/yoursubdirectory. For Example, the document root folder should look like this: public_html/yourdomain.com/m.

Then when it installs, the subdirectory will be within the domain itself and will resolve like this:
m.yourdomain.com

You install WP in the m.yourdomain.com subdomain.

Also, for Irene, the videos should not be a part of the plugin. I recommend you put these in a separate place...

_____________________

I know how to create m.domain.com and domain.mobi sites. My problem is that what you suggest is we put the EZMobileSiteGenerator on each of those sites we create for a client.

One of the main features of EZMobileSiteGenerator is that we can create multiple mobile sites on one of our own WP sites.

I want to know how we do that and then give the client a good url (m.domain.com or domain.mobi. I don't see any way to do that yet.

Jim
Jim,

The redirect script that I am sending out very soon will provide you with that feature.

Can you confirm this, Irene, that you are working on a new release of this plugin, hopefully that will be released Monday, that will address these things:
  • URL structure, to allow having the plugin to put the website on m.domain.com or domain.mobi rather than domain.blahblah.EZMB or whatever
  • map scrolling
  • redirect script
  • remove videos from showing within the plugin
This is fantastic of you to listen to your customers and address concerns. Good on you for that, and I am really excited to see these changes!

FYI, here is my take on this site by cicolino:

Looks great and loads fairly fast on my wifi connection (will test on 3G soon).
In fact, here's a comparison for you, just from what I did, on load time:
site using Will's HTML template (fastest) - 3 seconds
MPMobilePro (WAY more expensive than this plugin) - 4 seconds
Oktoberfest QR code example from above - 5 seconds

One business site I am targeting for mobile development - 11 seconds (full desktop site, not mobile optimized, no video)
Second business I am targeting for mobile development - 19 seconds (full desktop site, not mobile optimized, video that does not even render on iPhones)

The difference in these three ways to make mobile sites is quite minimal, as far as load time.

For me, when you see the end result of the site and the load time (whichever method you use) compared to a business that does not have a mobile website, really anything is an improvement. And Irene's plugin, as far as bang for the buck, time to learn, and functionality, is really, really on up there. Heck, if Will R suggests it as an option, it has to be good. And, you can tell from Irene's responses that she honestly does care about the quality of her product and wants to make it the best she can for her users.

I'm impressed.

Now, for the bad news - that Oktoberfest site from the QR code got a TERRIBLE score on the mobile validator website - 29% mobile ready.
http://validator.w3.org/mobile/check...einmobi.net%2F

In defense of the person who created it, the site still loads very fast, and looks fantastic. The thing that I suspect is really bringing down the score is a lot of graphics and video in the site.

However, what percent of average users who navigate to a website to BUY something, like pizza or whatever, give a rat's butt about what the mobile validator say about that website, much less even know what that is?

Way to go with your responsiveness, Irene, and i wish you continued success. This is a great option for people wanting to create fantastic looking mobile sites.

I just wish you could give us that quick start PDF!

A footer is nothing to do with "force the desktop version even though we are on a mobile device?" - it's just an area at the bottom of the page - whatever you choose to put in there would be your own personal choice.

The "force the desktop version even though we are on a mobile device?" is you providing a link of some sort for sending the mobile device back to the main site and over-riding the redirection script on the main site. A button, a text link, or whatever.

I'll be talking about that in the tutorial video that I will be doing for the redirection script.

I did one site where I used the right icon on the TopBar to provide that facility - only problem was that it's a small area to explain to the user that they an touch the icon to go back to the main site.

On most of my sites I don't bother with a "return to main site" option.

Remember you have sent mobile users to the mobile site for a reason - you want to present them info in a format that is easy for them to read and use, and the TYPE of info a mobile user needs is different to what is on the main site.

Most times sending them back to the main site ends up undoing what you achieved by sending them to the mobile site in the first place.

You have to think a little about the type of sites you are building and the users' requirements, and whether or not giving an option to return to the main site actually makes sense.

Hope you find those comments helpful.

Hi Irene

I bought the Dev plugin yesterday, installed and watched all the videos last night and I have to say that I really like it!

The videos are awesome and I noticed you took the time to come back and added extra footage to some videos. You are very professional and I appreciate that.

I find it awesome to be able to navigate the site on live preview mode, what a time saver!

The themes and cloning are super easy to customize and I read something about backgrounds options coming up in this thread, it's going to look so good!

The coupon settings make for quick delivery for clients who update their promotions often, and adding a map on a coupon page is a super incentive for local people to just walk in and redeem...

So far, as a person with no real webdesign background, I have managed to make a very good looking site without to much effort!

I will look for the redirect coding as it becomes available, then all that will be left to do is finding clients and make money!! Lots of money!

Awesome plugin, easy to learn, makes my day!

Currently it does not auto redirect but Irene will be providing us with a redirect script to do that shortly.

With that script you can put it on your customers site and redirect it back to their page on your site. If you want to keep the links clean you could probably point the redirect to "m.customer.com" which has a 301 permanent redirect with masking turned on pointed at your site.

Scratch the masking part. Not good for SEO.

-maybe youtube (video) implementation
-something like accordion menu - Showmodule « Entertainer this is site with WP Mobile Pro)
-custom forms creation (I need for reservations and other things)
-maybe advanced galery (with slide in Iphone style and with buttons)
-more menu options(spacing, width %, height, border radius)
-heading style shadows (color,width, blur)
-background (image with repeat, maybe css3 for gradient)
-plugins compatibility
-better sorting of pages

imagine you have about 100 sites. it will be a little bit dificoult to find parent site (maybeoption to showing only actual project)

Something that concerns me today: The demo sites are loading VERY SLOW now, like 18 seconds (very bad as a mobile site is to avoid this pratfall), at least from what I remember yesterday.

Anyone else having this problem today? I THINK they were acceptable yesterday.

I, personally, can give a rats behind about w3c checker etc that everyone keeps whining about on here. I care about aesthetics...and Load SPEED (ok, there's a bunch of little stuff too, but those are the main two). I provide the marketing expertise.

Using an iphone 3g (think my wifi is on even).

Can anyone else verify/ disqualify my loading speeds today (or explain them away)? This is on the cusp of being my Go To Mobile maker.

Is there something going on with your hosting/server, possibly, Irene?

Very nicely done! I don't understand the language very well, but the pages load quickly, it's easy to navigate and looks great.

What else can you ask? You have it mastered!

I do have one question - what part of the world are you hosting the files in. Superfast pageloads cicolino!

BTW - I scanned and viewed the site on a Droid 3 with a dual core processor, and the site easily compares with many of my HTML5 sites for pageloads.

And this is Wordpress!

Lovin this plugin Warriors!

You already have that. You get the list of sites, and then you have "view site pages" on the right hand side.

Yes, I've been having speed problem with the server a little today. Not just on that site.

I know this, I mean if you add new child page you must chose in right menu(attributes) parent site, then you have all sites and pages together.
And if you have for example 100 or more sites....
but that is not so important

I agree with most of these:

-maybe youtube (video) implementation
-something like accordion menu - Showmodule « Entertainer this is site with WP Mobile Pro)
-custom forms creation (I need for reservations and other things)
-maybe advanced galery (with slide in Iphone style and with buttons)
-more menu options(spacing, width %, height, border radius)
-heading style shadows (color,width, blur)
-background (image with repeat, maybe css3 for gradient)
-plugins compatibility
-better sorting of pages

also a place within the plug-in for " Mobile Powered by ABC.com"

Thanks for looking at all suggestions.

Glad to hear it's not the sites themselves One more question while I'm here. Do you provide, or where did you get the graphic for making that coupon?

Thanks!

Business owner to me="but how well will your mobile website rate when running thru the w3c checker?".................oh wait 1 in a 10000 business owners will ask me that!
One in 10k!

I think we may have too many "web geeks" and not enough "sales people" in the mobile website biz. No worries though, more money for me and my team. P.S. I love you web geeks! I wouldnt have a biz without you. I hope you get my point....

You didn't confirm if I can put that underneath the salespage. I don't want to do that without you specifically saying yes it's ok with you.

As a contribution to this thread, and a little thank you to Irene, let me give everyone an idea for pricing:

Tell client that your mobile websites are offered at an industry standard retail price of $499.99. BUT if you order yours in the next 72 hours, you can get your mobile website for $399.99.

If still no sale or you need to follow-up. Show them three formats for the website that you didnt previously show them [more low key, not fancy] and say "you can have any of these three layouts for the blow out price of $299.99. I would expect that they come back to you and say "can I have one of the original sites for $299.99", and you will say " I will get back to you on that request" have meeting with yourself and call client back and say "deal." Goodnight everybody

Ah, yes I do understand now what you mean, but I don't think I can do anything about that, and I don't think it will be an issue for most people.

At that point you HAVE to be able to choose ANY site or page as the PARENT because you might be adding the new page as a child of a SITE or as a child of a PAGE within a SITE.

You can create multi-level menus that way.

I understand your point of view - it would be nice if Wordpress provided a neat tree structure there, but they control that dropdown style not me.

Maybe it is totally irrelevent but I was just wondering if a poor W3C score would result in a worse search engine ranking?, who knows

Hi Irene,

Did we ever figure out the /ezmb folder thing?

I'm not about go into those files...and reverse anything!

Doing away with that folder would be nice.
