Irene,

I left a support ticket. "Compressed (zipped) File is invalid or corrupted"

Uploading it to my website resulted in a WP report of:
"The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature"

I'm hoping for an answer/resolution quickly. I only have weekends to devote uninterrupted time to set this up and wrap my brain around it, which is why I'm trying to reach you here and at the support desk.

Thanks

UPDATE:

Irene,

Disregard this. I originally downloaded using the Explorer browser. Tried multiple times and everything came in corrupted.

I then downloaded using the Firefox browser. Everything came in good. I got it installed without a problem. Don't know why the browsers made a difference, but what ever works, I guess.

Something to keep in mind should anyone run into a similar problem.

Now I can get started.

Hi Greg,

I already sent you a PM.

I don't normally do support within the thread as I am not constantly on Warrior Forum, so you might not get swift responses on here.

The Helpdesk is constantly monitored, so that is the place to go for help.

You indicated somewhere in the thread that these sites do NOT have Click to Call; but that you may put it in. Did you ever put Click to Call into the Generator?

Tnx,

I have no idea how you would think that.

I most certainly would not have said that as EzMobileSiteGenerator has ALWAYS had Click-To-Call from the day it was launched.

Maybe you were confusing it with the ability to use custom images for the Click-To-Call button which was added to one of the very early versions.

Thanks Irene. That is probably what was being discussed.

However I noticed my question was mis-spoken. I meant to say tap to call. But, I imagine we are talking about the same thing. Correct?

One other thing though: How many levels are there within your menus? A menu for a restaurant would need several of course: The main menu --> Sub-menus for entree's, Side dishes, Deserts, Drinks, from the Bar, etc. ... --> and under Entrees there might be another submenu for Seafood, steak, chicken, pork, etc.... --> and then the actual dishes themselves.

Also I was wondering how much trouble it would take to incorporate an API for standard menus that are posted at http://openmenu.com/? That would be a very nice feature. They already have a wordpress plugin -- http://openmenu.com/wordpress-plugin.php .

Thanks again,
DW

Great question! I'm sure Irene will elaborate on this but, yes, EzMSG is certainly not just for local businesses. It's a many-featured mobile Web site solution for just about any purpose. If you review the list, you'll find that plays and works well with existing Web sites and has some plusses that will make it great for niche sites, like opt-in forms, contact forms, accordion reveals, slideshows, video support, and multilevel menus.

Granted, such options as Tap to Call, Location, and Store Hours may not be appropriate, but EzMSG is flexible enough to avoid ever forcing you in that direction.

Now, if you're looking for a mobile shopping cart, let me add that this doesn't come as part of the plugin. However, EzMSG does support Iframes, so you can add one of the many available. PayPal and ClickBank will both integrate easily with EzMSG.

If you're a "techy" guy, EzMSG is a great starting point, because you can export into standard HTML/CSS files and take it from there. If you're not that geeky, EzMSG is a very good "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" mobile platform.

Did you have any specific questions? EzMSG has an active user base and I'm sure someone here will help you out. Many of us are quite enthusiastic about the product, and Irene continues to delight us by adding new features to this remarkable product.

[I'm not an employee, just a fan, by the way. . .]

@Warrior Mac:
I have installed EzMSG alongside many other WP plugins without any noted conflicts. Perhaps if you were a bit more specific. . .

@DUSTY34:
EzMSG does indeed handle coupons, as can be seen from Irene's description of the feature at EzMobileSiteGenerator - Creating coupons for mobile websites - YouTube. I don't know if this fits your understanding of the word, "generates," however. If you are looking for unique coupon codes (one for every customer), I'd say not. A supported coupon strategy would be to create a coupon, "Show this at checkout and receive 10% off your total order - expires 30Apr2012," and have the display change on the expiration date to, "Sorry, this offer has expired."

This feature is available in all current versions of EzMSG. Did that answer your question?

Anyone,

Sent a ticket yesterday, but Irene is probably understandably busy with getting a new release ready (she mentioned to me she was working on a couple of things).

I'm having trouble understanding the contact form for emails. Whatever I'm doing, I guess I'm not doing it correctly. No emails are coming through and I'm not seeing the acknowledgement message.

Let's say my website is "xyz.com" and I set up my wordpress admin email as "admin@xyz.com"

Would the "Send From Email" and "Ack From Email" lines be "admin@xyz.com"?

EDIT: Alleluia! I figured it out.

All version of EzMobileSiteGenerator have included coupons. It was included in the very first version.

The coupons are self-expiring - by that, I mean you set a date on which they expire, and until that date the viewer sees one set of text, and after that date they see an alternative text.

If you visit the Enrico Pizza Coupon Page for December you will see an expired coupon.

I should really take the time to go back to that demo site and add a non-expired coupon page.

I just bought this the other day and it took me a couple days to get around to reading this entire thread and then going through the Enricho tutorial video (and setting up that site on my end).

All I can say is that the plug in is AMAZING. I love how there are plenty of templates built in but everything can be super customized. I also have WillR's mobile business in a box and find his html templates to be easy to use but I love this plug in to have as well for when I want to change things up. I think having both is a great complement to each other and really gives one an impressive arsenal of mobile site building methods.

Once upon a time I'd bought the wp-pro mobile theme (sorry, can't remember the exact name of it) and I found it a bit cumbersome to deal with. I much prefer this plug in for both ease of use and all the features plus the aforementioned customization. (And the price is a bonus as well.)

Even though I wish I'd known about this plug in longer ago, I'm also not sweating it as it seems I got it after the growing pains were sorted out.

I know I'm going to have fun playing with it as I learn all the features and I'm excited to build excellent mobile pages and sites that will bring great value to businesses.

Thanks, Irene for such a fantastic product and for the updates. (Even though I've had it less than a week - and months after it originally debuted - I got an email today saying there's an update!)

You're amazing Irene. Marry me.

Seriously, though. Thanks for the upgrade! I've seen too many developers create stuff and walk away, or repackage it under a different name. It's good to see you are devoted to improving your plugin when you can.

That update was due to be released a few days ago, but I delayed it slightly to get some changes included to help deal with an issue for a user ...

This was mentioned above
* Altered some CSS for compatibility with other plugins
... and then he sent me a video that made me cry with joy ...

Folks, I've commented previously about how great this product is and in particular how much value is here compared to the price. And this would be true, in my opinion, at ten times what Irene is asking for it considering what you can do with it.

But this time I'd like to comment on one feature - the ability to convert your Wordpress site to HTML. Although this feature came out a while back, I had not had time to actually work with it until just recently.

I converted three client sites and each one of them now has vastly improved response times. Whereas I had previous responses of 3-5 seconds per page, my times are now an average of 1 second or less. To me this is incredible and the feature is worth its weight in gold.

Irene, I am not only thankful that you've made this product available to us at such a value, but that you continue to update it. There aren't many like you out there.

Let me add my accolades to what is perhaps now become the "Cult of Irene" and say that I certainly agree with the previous posts that thank Irene for her hard work and celebrate EzMSG as a truly valuable and remarkable product.

Uncharacteristically for me, I'll make this post short.

Thanks again, Irene. Great job!

Wanted to give an update regarding the update.

Last night I was playing around with the plugin seeing what I could come up with on my own. Just fiddling around and learning the features (I haven't gotten around to watching all the tutorial videos yet).

Well, I realized no matter what I did I couldn't bring up some pages for a site I'd built even though I did make them children of the site. It was a bit annoying and curious - where in the heckfire did they go?

Before dealing with contacting Irene for support, I thought, Hey, I haven't actually installed the update. So I did that - and bingo! Those pages were finally showing up under the parent site.

So for anyone dealing with any issues you may want to make sure you've installed the latest update.

Now a question for everyone - does anyone know of a good mobile theme/template (preferably for free) OR how to manipulate the plug in - to do a blog style mobile site? As in it's a blog with frequent updates and the most recent post on top, sort of thing, but mobile optimized/sized? I want it for a personal project for myself - I want to do a blog but meant to be viewed on smartphones. Thanks in advance for any help!

I stumbled upon this wso late last night and I'm very impressed with what I've read on this thread both with the mobile site builder software itself and with the accolades about Irene the owner which appear to be well founded. I can't believe this wso has been out for so long and I'm just now finding it!

I do have some questions though, and if these questions have been answered previously I apologize in advance. This thread is huge so I've only skimmed it.

1. Is there any included training or suggestions within the product on ways to market mobile sites to businesses, with such things as ways to make money with it, pricing suggestions or stuff like that? It's not a must have, but was just curious.

2. It sounds like a lot of people have bought this product. Is there a members area/forum or anything like that for purchasers to bounce ideas off each other? Again, not necessary, just curious.

3. My biggest stumbling block to getting into selling mobile sites to businesses has been the domain name issue. Ok and the fact that no one up until Irene had ever had a solid site building system and at a reasonable cost!

From what I've read elsewhere (not on this thread) it sounds like the best domain name setup from the clients perspective and google love is to use the format MobileSiteName.MainSiteName.com which makes sense to me. However the way I'd most like to make money with such sites is through monthly hosting fees which I couldn't do if I gave them the code to then place on their already existing host as a sub-domain of their main domain.

I'm just sick and tired of affiliate stuff where I constantly have to make more sales to make money and really want a business that has reoccurring income which is why I've wanted to do mobile sites for some time now, but can't figure out how to make that happen due to the domain issue. If there is anyone already doing what I'm referring too here and would mind elaborating on how they deal with this? I'd really appreciate your insights on the matter.

Thank you,

Stephen

Hey Stephen.

You could host the mobile site as a subdomain of their main site by changing the "A" records (I think it's the "A" records, maybe one of the other records) at the domain registrar. Then, you host the subdomain on your server/hosting and they pay you for that. It's a little more complex to set up, but I'm 99% sure it can be done because we recently did that with a subdomain to host images on that we decided to put on a different server.

If that doesn't make sense, I can try to pull some info together and hopefully make it clearer.

Good luck and your question made me think of some things I can do for clients now.

Could you please explain how to put the exported website back online? I exported the site but all images etc. are gone.. Do I need to place them back in the folder myself? And how do I name the images then..? Thanks for your help!

@Social Guy,

After writing the above, I had a problem with images, myself, yesterday after I installed the latest update. I was going to take a look at it before I informed Irene, but haven't had the time yet. I thought it might have been something I was doing. After reverting back to the last version (3.01.10), I had success. But I want to make sure I'm doing everything else properly before I raise any flags and suggest it's something in the new version. I hope to do that today. I've been known to come to false conclusions before.

What version are you using? And is it just a matter of the images not being copied? Does everything else work? And finally, have you logged a ticket with Irene? After you quantify your problem, you need to hit her support facility first thing.

Update: I cloned the exact same WordPress installation and site that I was having problems with yesterday and moved it to a new subdomain. I exported the HTML, deployed it and had no problems. As a matter of fact, the export was really quick today. Yesterday it was really slow and actually timed out once. I've got to now believe that the problem was with my host, but I'm not ultra knowledgeable in any of this (told you my conclusions don't always pan out) so your best bet is to contact Irene.

Hey Jim,

I may get what you're saying, but not 100% sure, so let me just step through this and let me know if I'm getting this right.

1. So I create a mobile site for a prospect (lets say he's a veterinarian) on my my own domain and make it a sub-domain. So if my site is stephen.com then my prospects new mobile site would then be happypuppy.stephen.com.

2. Now lets say this guy likes the site, but he wants it to be a part of his domain and I want to host it so he is basically renting the mobile site from me and his only charge is the monthly hosting fee I charge him. I like this model because I retain control and if he stops paying my monthly fee then I can shut the site off.

So now I want the site to "appear" to make use of his domain so that it appears to be happypuppy.vetpros.com (Say vetpros.com is his main sites domain).

So whose registrar do I need to log into to add an "A" record that makes happypuppy.stephen.com become happypuppy.vetpros.com?

And do you know what I'd have to enter into the "A record" field to make that work?

If I'm asking too much of you just let me know. I suppose I could try contacting my own hosting provider and ask them if what I'm trying to do is possible and if so what the steps would be to make it work.

If what you're saying is possible and I can retain ownership of the mobile site while also providing the client with the ability to retain his brand name by using his domain name through the "A" record then its a winning formula for the client and me. He gets to keep name recognition, and I know I'll keep getting paid the monthly hosting fees because I own the rights to the mobile site per our agreement.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hey Stephen.

I'm about to step out to go set up for a charity golf tournament this weekend, so it will be Monday before I can take a look at this. Let me take a look at it and document the steps so I can fully answer your question. I can also verify 100% that we can do what I'm thinking can be done.

The changes would be made to the "A" record at the client's registrar. I've got access to several client's domain registrars that are not registered through my domain reseller account so I can verify that I can do this and the steps.

Talk to you soon.

Sounds to me like you guys are trying to make this much more complicated than it needs to be.

Just buy the .mobi version of the clients domain if he's really worried about branding.

or if that's not available get existingdomainmobile.com

or lots of other ways.

I've just been informed about an issue with some missing images from the latest version that I just released.

I'm just busy putting together another update and hope to have it issued in a few hours time.

Hi Irene,

I had thought about that, but there are a couple of reasons I prefer not to take that route.

1. I'd prefer not to have to buy and own domain names for clients and have to continually renew them which is both a cost to me and and extra hassle. If I just have to change an "A" record one time then cost and hassle are removed with the exception of the initial setup.

I suppose the client could buy the .mobi version of the domain then give me admin access to it so I can point the DNS servers to my own server, but I think having to wait for them to do all that could create a longer delay then simply giving me admin access to their registrar to just make a one time A record edit (assuming that option works). Plus point 2 below...

2. My understanding is that implementing the mobile site as a sub-domain of the clients .com site is better from an SEO stand point then a .mobi domain.

Anyway I'll hold off for the moment and see if what Jim mentioned about A records can work. if it can then I think it reduces the upkeep and time to get implemented.

I have Version 3.02.03 ready to issue.

It's already uploaded to the server.

My hosting company upgraded the server yesterday, and there seems to be a server configuration issue that's causing 404 errors on the server.

Once they get that sorted out, I'll send an email out to everyone to say the update is available for download.

That's the way I'm going. I buy the .mobi (or .com) and it is "Free" with the monthly subscription. Anyone accessing the main site from a mobile device will be redirected. I own the domain name. That way I control the site and domain. Makes it more enticing to them not to cancel IMO.

Very interesting Sanoma. Do you mind if I ask how much you charge the client for the reoccurring monthly fee and do you charge an upfront fee to build the mobile site or is that free if they agree to a long term hosting fee? If that information is confidential I'll understand.

Thanks,

Hi Stephen,

I based my charges on a large local business promoting heavily on the radio. Their "special" is $297 for a mobile website (4 pages max), which they host for $49.95/mo. Unbelievably, they are actually undercutting the ISP cable company in our area that also offers mobile website builds.

It's a great selling tool when mentioning their pricing as compared to mine and I have 2 local businesses on board already with 3 I have to visit again on Monday, who I think will sign. (Just waiting on a fix to a problem I think is related to Irene's latest update, before I begin building those 2 committed sites).

I don't suggest offering a free build under any circumstances. I'm a firm believer that customers must be aware that your "expertise" and time has value. I won't give exact numbers, but I "officially" charge less than $100 for the build (it's on sale through May). If they have a desktop website I can copy and paste from I'll "cut my throat" (as I tell them) and knock off a few dollars more if it gets closer to sealing the deal. C&P their existing stuff means a fast build.

My VPS costs me $49/mo. Suffice to say that the 2 businesses I have now will pay for the VPS and domains once they go live. Every other business will be pure profit. I'm looking for volume in recurring monthly subscription fees for "Maintenance." Everybody like "free" and they like to hear the hosting and domain is provided free - along with 30 minutes "technical" time weekly toward minor changes they want (coupon, image, menu item, etc.).

Owning the domain name is just a little more insurance that they don't run after the 12 month signed contract expires. It costs me about $1/mo for the .mobi.

I suppose if they want to go one day and want to take the .mobi I could be persuaded to sell it to them - at a "fair" price.

I would suggest looking around to see what your market is like in your area, as far as pricing goes. I don't see it being as open as it is currently for too much longer. Probably in the next few years everybody and their 10 y/o kid will be saturating the mobile site market.

I'm concentrating on local businesses in my area. Especially the pizzerias and taverns (so much low hanging fruit!). I'm also talking to a couple of young adults about doing sales. If they get a signed 12 month contract I'll give them 1/2 the build cost - in cash - after payment clears.

My only worry is that I may get swamped too quickly. Currently I do have a "real" job and I'm not sure where the tilt factor is that could make me choose between this, sleep, and working for the benefits.

My hope is that Irene may find time one day (I know she is currently overwhelmed with this) to produce an unbranded version. That way I can hire someone (or more) to do the builds with me.

WOW, thank you so much for sharing your business model and ideas Sanoma it sounds like you're on the right path and I agree with everything you stated.

And I know what you mean in regards to time. I too have a full time job and then there's the need for family time as well, especially since I have a young daughter that still wants "daddy time".

I think you're right about it being wide open right now and Irene's software makes it so that we can pay once then everything is profit after the first couple of sales which you just can't beat.

By the way are you keeping your clients new mobile sites in WP format or are you converting them over to html? I saw someone post that the html version loaded a lot faster for them on a smart phone.

Thanks,

Stephen

Definitely HTML. I just finished uploading one about a half hour ago and it loaded in about a second. Blazing fast. I've been doing my mockups to potential clients in WP for them to see, but may pick up a few cheap "demo" .coms so they see the speed. If they don't buy, I'll delete the files and upload a different one. If they do buy I'll just upload the HTML files to the proper domain.

Hello Irene,

I just found your thread, and without me having gone through the whole 28 pages, can you tell me if the Pro version is the same as the Developer version that the Buy Button shows?

Thanks.

Yes, it is. It's actually named Pro-Developer.

There's a new update in the Members Area but I haven't sent an email out about it yet because my server is having caching issues that is causing some links not to function correctly, so I'd rather not have a massive influx of users grabbing the update and overloading the server until I know that the server is functioning again properly.

I'll be sending out an email to everyone once the server is ok again.

Great...Pro-Developer is what I meant. I'm getting myself a birthday present.

Thanks for your quick reply.

A HINT for those who may have problems with viewing your mobile build.

I was running into a problem with the simulator or "View Page" link showing a page from my main site, or even a mobile website page I had previously created for a different mobile site, rather than the one I was currently working on.

I updated the permalinks and even changed the structure of the permalinks to /%category%/postname%/. It did no good.

What I found was that if I had previously created a page with a permalink of /menu and I built a different website that had a page with the same permalink of /menu I would see the wrong page show up.

My solution was to give the trailing file a different permalink.
First mobile site:
/menu
next mobile site:
/menu-1
next mobile site:
/menu-2

This solved my problem... just in case anyone else is running into the same.
