BONUS REDIRECTION SCRIPTS

Many users have asked about how to redirect users to their mobile sites from other websites.

To do this you install a redirection script on other sites to automatically redirect mobile users to your mobile sites.

There are free redirection scripts available on the internet, but I will be releasing a Wordpress Redirection Plugin and a Javascript Redirect Script free to all users later today as soon as I get caught up on support issues and finish the tutorial videos for the redirection scripts.

Hopefully this will be released to all users today (Thursday 15th)

Have a great day,

Irene

I've just reproduced below a Helpdesk question I was just dealing with, and I felt it would be useful to get some feedback from others here on the thread, as I will work on addressing this issue over the weekend and will take your feedback into consideration.

Thanks for any feedback anyone provides on what you as users would like in this respect.

Please help ASAP. I have a client who I don't want to lose.

He has his own dedicated server and wants to host himself.

I saw on warrior forum you recommended installing the plugin on his site if he wants his own hosting(I purchased the PRO developer version)

I don't want to give him access to the ezmobilesitecreater and all the tutorial videos-just HIS site.

Can I generate output from this, or a template, or HTML files (I don't know the right terminology)to put on his m.domainname? What will be the URL of the sites that I create with this?

Thanks.
This was an issue that I hadn't thought of - the tutorials.

I think I can do something to help get rid of the tutorials, and maybe lock it to only a single site on the system, but I won't get time to do that until weekend.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to use the text of your message as a post on the WSO.

Hi Irene,

Yeah this was/is also a concern of mine. Was gonna wait 'til the chaos had subsided to bring it up.

Many types of clients will probably want to be able to update their own sites (restaurants, estate agents etc) whether it's on their domian or mine.

The videos I don't mind so much but the fact that they are branded is a problem.

Locking it down to one site per client install would be good, great in fact. Don't want them getting carried away.

Great product.

Well I think the first 2 options he is talking about hosting and managing the updates yourself and charging for them both. So in effect the customer never has access to the backend/plugin.

The last is to do with plugins that allow you to configure the WP admin area. So you can show/hide different areas that the client has access to.

The branding is to try and get some sales from casual viewers at YouTube, but producing unbranded version that would go in a client version plugin would not be a problem.

I think I am looking for user feedback on "Video/No Videos" option.

Un-branded also helps to keep our VAs on the "up and up".

I don't know if this is just me, but I personally don't like wading through hours of video to learn how to use something like this. It's a personal preference, but I'd much rather have a PDF that walks you through how to set up the plugin, which most people likely already know, but is necessary fro those that don't, and then has a guide for how to use the plugin, with screenshots.

I know that a lot of people prefer videos though.

Either way, do you have to embed the how to videos in the plugin itself?

A pretty easy solution would be to remove the videos from the plugin itself, which would probably help with install speed and size, and have two files to download from the membership page - the plugin itself, and the how to ZIP file, which would include the videos.

Right?

It's WP Mobile Pro from Jason Fladien and Wil Mattos. I'm sure it's a wonderful program but even at the sale price of $197, it was a little out of my price range right now with Christmas right around the corner.

To get the mobile version on a domain, you need to create a subdomain, called "m" in the TLD (Top Level Domain). When you create the subdomain, you must define the Document root path with public_html_yourdomain.com/yoursubdirectory. For Example, the document root folder should look like this: public_html/yourdomain.com/m.

Then when it installs, the subdirectory will be within the domain itself and will resolve like this:
m.yourdomain.com

You install WP in the m.yourdomain.com subdomain.

Also, for Irene, the videos should not be a part of the plugin. I recommend you put these in a separate place...

Just to clarify

Visitors will not care about the url structure but for SEO benefits if you try to rank for
"Italian restaurant ny"
www.mydomain.com/Italian-estaurant-ny is much much better then
www.mydomain.com/?post_type=pbcezmobsite&p=19

To Irene

I don't think anyone has complaints as we really see you're working very hard to solve the problems.

We just inform you the issues we get.

This is a very attractive plugin and we just want to put it to work...

Thanks

Right?
The videos are not really inside the plugin, so are not taking up space.

I just embed the YouTube links, so really you are watching them on YouTube, but inside the Plugin inside your Wordpress installation.

Removing them from the plugin would have no affect on the size of the plugin.

A quickstart PDF would be nice. I'd actually like to see the hoover over help icons in the actual plugin for each line. Maybe a little question mark next to each line that gave a brief description of what that line item is for. I'm still trying to figure out the difference between Page Title, Top Bar Page Title, and Post Title and how they all work on the site. Most of of theme is self-explanatory but there are places where we can get stuck if we don't use this everyday or work with several plugins that have various other options we have to remember. The help icons may also help you solve your un-branding option because you could remove the videos altogether...just a thought.

I'd also like to recommendations where appropriate. For instance, next to Display Logo (320 px wide max)

I'm going through the videos now but I started building first. Plus, these changes would enable me to hand this off to someone else easily.

---------

It would also be great if we could have an option to upload a background image (of the repeat and no repeat variety). The best place would be on the EZMobileSites page so we could potentially have a different background for each page. Of course if you put this feature on the EZMobile Themes Pages we could make a global page background for the entire site too (that could possibly be overridden by the individual page option).

I know your goal was to keep page load times as low as possible but some of us would sacrifice a little speed for beauty. Plus, we could use a 16x16 px repeat image for speed purposes or highly compressed low quality full screen image (since its in the background) if necessary to speed things up.

I don't mind at all you using my questions/concerns and addressing them here. Getting additional input from others is always a good idea. Yes, if you could put the videos elsewhere and lock his access to his domain only, that would work. I also like the idea of removing the branding. Thanks for your on-going support!

Please correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand this...

The mobile site can only be installed on a domain that has WordPress installed and this plugin.

We can not install the mobile site on a customer's hosted domain unless we first install an instance of WP along with this plugin on his hosted domain.

The general assumption in using this plugin is that we set up customer's mobile sites and they would reside on our server/domain hosted account rather than setup the mobile site for the customer on his hosted domain.

Therefore, whenever a cell phone user clicks on the customers domain name, they will be redirected to a url that resides on my domain/server.

Thanks,
Alton

I think you're sort of missing the point.

Reducing the size and install time of the plugin was just a side benefit, but apparently the size of the plugin won't be impacted. Still, my point is that there really is no need for the videos to be inside the plugin at all, whether or not you are simply pointing to them on YouTube or including the actual file itself.

The concern that people have is that a very savvy business owner could get access to this entire system, and your position as the consultant could be gone.

The solution is to remove the links or reference to the videos from the plugin altogether, and put those links or references on your download page. Knowing what you just said, you don't even have to include a ZIP file, just link the videos, in order, on your download page, and remove them from the plugin.

I have the same concern, I had it with EZFanpage Generator also. If you just install the plug in on there server, they don't need you anymore. You cannot charge them hosting. In fact they can start making there own mobile sites, and /or fanpages. For example, If I set a realtor up and do is intitial mobile site, I would want him to be able to add and delete properties and charge him a monthly fee. But as it is set up now, he could just cancel me and use it anyway, plus sell all of his realtor buddies the same package. Or he could just search out ezmobilesite maker and buy software direct and not have to pay monthly fees. It would make this software really good if we could white label it somehow... and then just give them access to there own site, and give them there own admin panel just for there site.

Thanks Dale

PS, Thanks Irene for keeping your promise

Post Title (like the normal WP page title on a post) is just to identify the page to YOU.

Page Title This is used on the VERTICAL MENUS and you have more character width here than the TopBar because you have whole screen width to use.

TopBar Page Title This is used when you have a TopBar. I added this so you can have a short title displayed in the TopBar because the icons in the TopBar reduce the width you can use for characters.

Logos can really be any size because the script auto-resizes them.

I use about 300 for some logos. Usually ones that have transparent backgrounds, so that the LOGO area background color expands, but the LOGO remains loking OK.

If it's a site that I expect users to switch and use in Landscape mode often, then I would use an image of 480px or 500px, so that it fills the landscape width. But then you have to remember that you are increasing the image data size and consider the impact on load times.

I always use PNG file format as it's the most compact. Never use BMP it's a resource hog.

Ok, I can implement this, and I'll implement it so you can have different backgrounds on different pages, or have the same on every page.

Good suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks,
Alton
Yes, Alton, that is correct.

A white label solution built into this plugin would be the ideal solution but here are a couple of other options that may work in the meantime.

WordPress › White Label CMS « WordPress Plugins

Plugins - White Label Branding for WordPress | CodeCanyon

I've purchased both Irene's and Jason's plugin but haven't installed or tested either one yet.

This could be done with a security lock feature, such as having to put in your email address that you purchased with or a serial number, to unlock the plugin.

No, Daniel, I'm not missing the point. I was just addressing in that particular post, your concern about filesize.

The issue about a savvy business owner is a separate issue, and the reason why I asked for feedback about "Videos/NoVideos".

What I am considering doing is creating a separate version of the plugin for you to install on clients' sites, and giving option to include in THAT the choice between "Videos/NoVideos" and also the option to lock THAT to only a single mobile site.

So effectively, owners of the Developer Version would have two version of the plugin.

One to use for themselves where they can host multiple mobile sites from a single Wordpress install.

and

One they can install on clients' sites, that would only create a SINGLE mobile site from the Wordpress install.

Now, I have to consider the on-going support issues for me of having 2 versions, so that is why I am asking for a bit of feedback from you guys BEFORE I finalise my spec for it, so I can consider the easiest and cleanest way to do it.

Hope you understand my point of view.

Hey Irene,

I purchased on Dec 14 and have up to a few minutes ago received 747 WSO delivery confirmation emails. How do I stop this?

Thanks

I purchased this, installed it at first with the error issue, installed it back and it worked.

#1 Yes, a pdf quick guide would be good... and even better would be pdf transcripts. I admit I was "arrrghhed" by the number of videos. I used to like them, now I've overdosed on videos. I'd rather read, AND look at specific sections of videos if needed.

#2 Since Warrior Will was on this thread - and I actually purchased from his recommendation - I can vouch for his WSO first of all for html mobile sites, and for his redirection plugin. He has the best since mobile users can also go around it and access the desktop version if they want to. It works for html or WP sites too.

#3 At this price it's certainly not a complaint, but a comment. If some of themes came already pre-built for a few of the usual mobile niches like restaurants, locksmiths, etc., I'd find it useful and I'm sure many would, if only to act as a portfolio.

#4 Yes, taking out all the tutorials and links inside the plugin is a must and if we install it for a client that will self-manage his site.

#5 I'll test it further today but from my very preliminary installation, the SEO (once the permalink is set to /%postname%/) seems fine.

#6 According to Warrior Will it'll be easy for you to make the sites even more lightweight so that's great news.

My "fear" with WP is always about the continual update and to make sure this plugin will always work with the constant code changes. The best part is all the features that it brings in a few clicks.

I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but it seems like quite the package. I purchased it also with outsourcers in mind. If it's easy for them to build sites then we can scale this baby!

I just tried it quickly with only the basic theme and WP 3.3.

Received error message after the installation failed:

The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini

I'll also try it with WAMPserver later and will report back.

COMPARE EZMOBILESITEGENERATOR AND WPMOBILEPRO YOURSELF ON THESE EMULATORS & SIMULATORS

I've pursued my comparison of EZMobile's Enrico's Pizza demo vs. WPMobilePro's Restaurant demo with online emulators and simulators. But first, I wanted to confirm that the low "mobile ready" scores I discovered in yesterday's testing were legitimate. Test 1 below verifies that.

Now it's your turn. Go to the following sites and spend half an hour testing out Jason's and Irene's demos. It will really give you an insight into the user experience, which is, after, all that really matters.

Test 1) Welcome to dotMobi | dotMobi
To save you time, here's the URL for the analysis of Enrico home page:
MobiReady Report... processing your page

Here's the URL for the analysis of WPMobilePro Restaurant home page:
MobiReady Report... processing your page

Test 2) Opera Simulator: Opera Mini simulator

Enter: wpmobilepro.mobi/restaurant/ and explore the site: how it displays and loading speed of each page. Loading speed is slow. Menu titles are not displayed.
Enter : ezmobilesitegenerator.com/demo/?pbcezmobsite=enricopizza/ and explore the site: how it displays and loading speed of each page. Works reasonably well.

Test 3) Mobile phone emulator (by COWEMO)

Enter the size of your monitor. In the right hand margin, pick a phone to emulate.
Enter wpmobilepro.mobi/restaurant/ . Explore the site and then repeat with another phone choice from the right margin. You'll see that on some phones, some of the pages are not completely displayed from left to right. On some phones, the menu labels are not displayed.
Enter : ezmobilesitegenerator.com/demo/?pbcezmobsite=enricopizza/ Oops! It shows the home page but none of the menu functions work with this emulator.

To get an idea of the number of emulators and simulators for various mobile devices, see: Mobile Emulators and Simulators - The ultimate guide to mobile developers | Mobile Web Programming and definitely read the excellent article and directory at Mobile Device Emulators and Simulators « Mobile Computing Trek. However, the ultimate test is to visit these sites - and any site you build - on real mobile devices.

I'm done. The point of all this is to underline that it matters not a bit how easy the theme solution or the plugin solution is to implement, or which is quicker to create mobile sites or what bells and whistles the sites have with each. All that counts is that the site loads quickly on any visitor's device and the information on the site is fully accessible. You have the opportunity to test before you purchase. Do it.

I totally agree with you Daniel, a PDF guide would be a great value - it could happen that you went through all the videos at one time and then, later on (after a week or two) you would like to review some information ... you will need to FF and RW the video to find that particular info.

Also, splitting the entire plugin in two will help for installation on the client's hosting company. I tell you from my experience, on my hosting company I had the limit size of the uploading file defaulted to 2Mb and the zip file from Irene is circa 6.3Mb. I had to figure out what was the problem and to ticket my hosting company to increase the size. I would prefer to avoid this things with the client or with the client's hosting company (most of the end clients do not now what a hosting company is).

So, why not making everybody's life easier?

I know that a lot of people prefer videos though.

Either way, do you have to embed the how to videos in the plugin itself?

A pretty easy solution would be to remove the videos from the plugin itself, which would probably help with install speed and size, and have two files to download from the membership page - the plugin itself, and the how to ZIP file, which would include the videos.

Right?

Hello Irene,

I personally do not plan to give offer the option of letting the client host the site, but I think if one would just remove the
link to the tutorials in the admin area it would be a quick fix.

See image below:

A good idea would be to remove the link Irene, and then upload that version to the members area for those that need it.

Hope that helps.

In my experience, clients that want things hosted on their own server are high maintenance - high maintenance= a web designers worst nightmare!

Your results may very!

You need to address a ticket to your hosting company to increase your file size limit for uploads ... I had the same issue

Yes, that was my thought for a quick fix, but I'd rather do a proper solution for the whole process.

Any answer for footer? for the developer version having a footer is great it can have a link to desktop page or mobile web designer's page.

Irene can you tell us if you can add it to next version or if we can edit it?

Also want to say that it's an outstanding piece of gem, for the price!

@Irene

That's even better - with unbranded videos we could then offer a login/pass so the client could make changes at will.

@Warriors

Just a note for warriors thinking about offering the DIY for clients. Make sure you set the parameters in writing about maintenance issues.

As an example.
If you create a site for a plumber with little to no wordpress skills, then hand him the login and free reign over the site - be prepared to make that site more than once!

Maintenance is a great thing to offer along with hosting - just be upfront and specify in writing how much you are willing to do and at what cost.

Hello Irene,

It looks like you got a winner here!

Do you talk about methods of getting clients either in a video or a pdf?
What methods do you recommend seeking clients for this?

What prices should we charge for building a site and month fees as well?
An actual numbers would be most appreciated.

thanks...

Maybe I am the oddball here, but I just don't think using WordPress and hosting the mobile pages on my own server rather than the customer's domain acct is the best way to go. I would like a refund please. Should I send you a pm or submit a request through your help desk?

Thanks,

Alton, you can do both on client hosting or your own.
To be honest I even like on my own server to have control on all my clients sites.
