ExtendAzon FAQ

Q: Does Amazon allow affiliates to use this tactic?

A: Absolutely! This system is based on the shopping cart features available to affiliates through Amazon API.

Q: Does ExtendAzon work with all Amazon locales?

A: ExtendAzon works will all locales supported by the Amazon shopping cart system - Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.ca, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr & Amazon.co.jp

Q: I have a site that is built with Amazon ads that I created through my affiliate account. Will it work with ExtendAzon?

A: As long as the site is built with WordPress and uses standard Amazon affiliate links (no Enhanced / Javascript ads), then it will work with ExtendAzon.

Q: I have a WordPress site that is built with the _____ plugin that generates my Amazon ads but it isn't listed as a compatible plugin here. Will ExtendAzon work with it?

A: It should, but there are some exceptions. If the plugin you use generates Enhanced, cloaked, or javascript ads, they will not work with ExtendAzon (sorry, there is no reliable way around this). If you still aren't sure, try ExtendAzon and let me know your results. I'm happy to offer a full refund if it won't work for you.

Q: I purchased your plugin and downloaded it, but the zipped file I downloaded won't decompress. What do I do?

A: The plugin package is generated upon demand for each download because each copy of the plugin contains a license key that is unique to each customer. For this reason, it is compressed by a website script and not typical software, and some software does not recognize this special format. Free software is available that will work for you if you are having problems (try WinRAR with Windows or StuffIt Expander with Mac).

Q: I purchased your plugin, but I never received a download link for it. What do I do?

A:
Check your email (including your spam box) for emails from ExtendAzon. A few customers have reported that their download link email ended up in the spam/junk box (on free mail clients like msn.com, hotmail.com, and aol.com). The download link email has this title: "ExtendAzon WP Plugin Download Link". If you still cannot find your download link, please send me your Paypal email address through the ExtendAzon Support Ticket System (see bottom of FAQ for support link). I will look up your purchase and resend a download link to you ASAP.

Q: I am using one of the listed compatible plugins for ExtendAzon but it isn't working. What is wrong?

A: Some of the plugins listed as being compatible may offer link cloaking, which isn't compatible with ExtendAzon. Simply disable link cloaking and everything will start working.

Q: Is there an Upsell / OTO connected with ExtendAzon?

A:
Yes, although it is not something that you will need to make ExtendAzon work. The OTO is an amazing deal to get quality, one-way links to your niche Amazon affiliate websites that use ExtendAzon.

Q: Do you have a demo site that I can see?

A: Yes, two actually. The first demo site below was made with George Katsoudas' Associate Goliath Amazon WP Plugin (just one of many plugins compatible with ExtendAzon). ExtendAzon was then installed on this site to convert all of the ads into shopping cart ads to be used with the on-site shopping cart. Adding ExtendAzon to this site took roughly 90 seconds! The second demo site is using WP Zon Buider. ExtendAzon was then installed on the site to turn all of the Amazon affiliate links into direct shopping cart links. Since the extra step to activate the sidebar widget for the on-site was not needed for the second demo site, this site took even less time to set up. Together, the two demo sites show the two main ways that the plugin can be used.

Associate Goliath w/ExtendAzon Demo (On-Site Shopping Carts):
ExtendAzon Amazon Store WordPress Plugin Demo | An Amazon affiliate site built with the Associate Goliath plugin and converted into an Amazon Store by ExtendAzon!

WP Zon Builder (Direct Cart Links):
WP Zon Builder ExtendAzon Amazon Store Demo | Just another WordPress site

Q: I have a problem that isn't covered here in the FAQ or other questions about ExtendAzon. How do I contact you for customer support?

A:
Please submit all customer support requests through the ticket system at the link below.

By going into my Amazon dashboard, I can get this code from Amazon. When I do so, I'm given two choices. I can create the code for things available via Amazon or I can create code for products available via third parties on Amazon.

Does this plugin work for both?

Hi wolfmmiii,

This is somewhat different. This plugin uses the Amazon API shopping cart system and not what is available through the Amazon Dashboard. It can work for products available via third parties, but it will only work for Amazon affiliate links (ie, this won't work with Small Parts, Endless, etc domain name affiliate links, but those same products can usually be found on Amazon itself).

The main thing to remember about ExtendAzon is that it is designed to work with existing Amazon affiliate sites built with WP (with or without other Amazon plugins). It does not actually create ads - you drop it into your site and it converts the ads you already have there (and future ads you build there too).

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your interest,
Ryan

The API cart system is what I was referring to. There are actually two different types of carts one can use. The first that works for products for sale by Amazon itself and then another that must be used if you want to promote products that are available via third parties who are selling through Amazon.

The typical way to create Add-to-Cart:

Add-to-Cart Buttons: Create an add-to-cart button on your Web site for items offered by Amazon by copying and modifying the following code. Replace "storeid-20" with your Associates ID and "B00003CWT6" with the ASIN of the Amazon product you wish to promote. If you are an Amazon Web Services subscriber, you should also replace the Subscription ID.

<form method="GET" action="http://www.amazon.com/gp/aws/cart/add.html">
<input type="hidden" name="AssociateTag" value="storeid-20"/>
<input type="hidden" name="SubscriptionId" value="0EMJ6TWAXGX6JF1NP202"/>
<input type="hidden" name="ASIN.1" value="B00003CWT6"/><br/>
<input type="hidden" name="Quantity.1" value="1"/><br/>
<input type="image" name="add" value="Buy from Amazon.com" border="0" alt="Buy from Amazon.com" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/associates/add-to-cart.gif">
</form>

The way to do it for third parties is a bit different and must be done via Web Services, meaning the method above does not work for products sold by third parties.

Since many of my own sales come via third parties, I'd like to be sure it works before trying it out.

I see what you are talking about now. The plugin doesn't do it by form post as in your example code - it is done through web services.

It should work fine with most third party merchants that sell on Amazon. I say "most" because there are some limitations to the web services system. Amazon states that the following kinds of products will not work with the shopping cart: out of stock items, items with limited quantities, digital items (ebooks mostly), variation parent items, and collection parent items. Technically, almost any product could end up in one of the first two groups that wouldn't work.

If the plugin encounters a product that Amazon just won't accept, it handles this gracefully by directing the visitor to the standard product page (although it won't have the extended 90 day cookie in that case).

If the plugin won't support the exact products you want to promote, I'd be happy to offer a refund any time within the first 30 days.

Thanks again for your interest,
Ryan

Can I ask what would happen if your amazon review site has both direct and partner products on the same site? Would this just work for the direct stuff?

The plugin really uses neither. The call is done through one of three look up methods to the Amazon Web Services, one of which typically works on almost any server. All you really need to use the plugin are Amazon API keys, which are free to obtain and use.

Hi Chris,

Yes, the plugin would just work with the products sold through Amazon, while the partner site affiliate links would remain unchanged.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I do have it working with AAA now (been testing it over the last couple of hours actually).

AAA is actually going to be one of the only plugins that has an exception to the "No Javascript Ads" rule with ExtendAzon. The way AAA did the Amazon affiliate link at the bottom of each post was a javascript link that I was able to have the plugin process. I've only been able to make this exception because they still basically have the whole affiliate link available there. Another thing worth mentioning is the links to read more reviews. These links are excluded from being processed since it would change what traffic is expecting to happen when they click on those links.

See the page below for a brief demo of AAA and ExtendAzon (this is just using direct links, but the on-site cart could also be used):

Hi zenglenn,

No. My last plugin has basically the same shopping cart features as ExtendAzon, so using both would just be overkill.

Users of Product Style (my last WSO) may have need for ExtendAzon if they have other sites that were built with other plugins. Instead of recreating advertising on an older site with a new plugin, ExtendAzon could just be dropped into the site to add the shopping cart features without extra work (I've been told by some customers that they are interested in it for this purpose, so I thought I would mention it here).

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi G B,

The link was pointing to the home page, which wasn't really set up (not something I had really intended to be a demo site). The working page there is in the menu, but I attached that as the home page of the site now.

The OTO is mentioned in the FAQ below the offer.

The unlimited domain license is limited to a single owner, while the developer license is for people that like site flipping (it is also something you can install on a client website, but you cannot resell it or freely distribute it even with the developer license).

Hi Zenglenn,

I'm not familiar with Monster Mage. Is that a WP theme/plugin that generates some type of Amazon affiliate ad? ExtendAzon should be able to work alongside many other themes/plugins, but it's real purpose directly involves those that generate Amazon ads.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

90 Day Cookies For Amazon WP Plugin - WSO Review Daily

Hi Ryan,

I installed your plugin on one of my blogs and it works exactly as described. Here is an excerpt of the review that goes out to my subscribers:

Overall rating:
This is an excellent WSO. You are going to get a Wordpress plugin that replaces Amazon links automatically with shopping cart links which extends the cookie life from 24 hours to 90 days which means three months commission possibility instead of one day, while Amazon does all the nudging until they buy and you cash in!

Hi Henrik,

No, it will not work with cloaked links. However, if you can revert those links back to standard Amazon affiliate links, it will work with them. For example, a lot of plugins offer an option to cloak links - ExtendAzon will work with that option disabled.

Hi Kathleen,

I have not personally tested ExtendAzon with WP Dollar, so I cannot say for sure. However, if you could point me to a site that is running that plugin, I should be able to take a quick look to figure out if it can.

One of the easiest ways to tell if any plugin is compatible with ExtendAzon is to take a look at the links that are created. If the links point to one of the Amazon domains, includes your affiliate id, and also points to a specific product page (it will contain the ASIN in the URL), then ExtendAzon should work with it.

Thanks for your interest,
Ryan

Hey there, Just purchased and was taken to your OTO page that makes it sound like if I don't accept one of the two options in front of me, i'm going to end up with a plugin I have to pay an annual fee for, or is this just for your "plus" service?

Can you please elaborate on this as your original sales page mentioned nothing of annual costs later?

Thanks

Hi phuzzled,

ExtendAzon Plus is completely optional and is definitely not required to use the plugin. It typically has a monthly fee, but the OTO is offering it for a one-time cost. That fee is only associated with ExtendAzon Plus and not the plugin itself.

When you buy the ExtendAzon plugin, it is also a one-time cost. It also includes all future updates for ExtendAzon as well.

Sorry for any confusion,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I didn't see any thing about using this with an Amazon "AStore". Will it work?

Hi JJSmith,

No, unfortunately this will not work with an AStore. They present the same problem as javascript and cloaked links, so the plugin cannot access all of the product links within it.

Thanks for your interest,

Ryan,

Just grabbed a copy of your plugin for all my Amazon affiliate websites. This is going to be a game changer for Amazon affiliates and everyone needs to get this product. I am recommending this product to my list.

Glad to hear that you do not convert links to the review pages.

Good luck on your plugin. This is a great product.

Hi Ryan,

The plugin looks great. I am in!

I'd love to take you up on the OTO platinum, but I can't at this time. I'd consider if you'd allow a multi-pay option.

This plugin was exactly what I was looking for: an easy way to get the 90 day cookie. Thanks

I would love to buy the OTO membership, but I really cannot afford the Platinium at this time. Is it possible to purchase 2 basic memberships and therefore being good for 40 sites? I am not a developer right now but do have multiple sites.

Hi Tracy,

Thank you for your purchase as well.

I know the platinum option is a bit pricey. I ran numbers any way I could to try to drop that a bit, but ExtendAzon Plus requires an employee to maintain, so I was lucky just to reduce it to a one-time cost.

See the note I'm writing for Sisu below - it may be helpful.

Thank you for your interest,

Hi Sisu,

I am OK with you doing this - I will actually boost the total to 50 if you want to buy the basic membership twice. Please submit a support ticket after the second purchase. Just mention you made this purchase and provide your paypal email address. I will have to manually upgrade your account to add the extra links (it will give you 20 from the first purchase and I will boost it up to 50 after I get your support ticket and purchase info).

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Ryan, congratulations on this one.

Your product caught my attention since im a amazon affiliate so I bought my copy for $9. I just have 2 questions right now.

1. Is the developer edition also have obfuscated code? I asked because I bought the other edition and I wanted to modify the code since it is not fully compatible with wpreviewengine and I found out that it is obfuscated.

2. I put a raw amazon link in in one of my posts to test it and it works. My question now is, do the prospect really need to confirm that they want to add the item in the cart before the 90 day cookie take effect or is the confirmation of the user not necessary?

Thanks

Hi Jayanuaria,

1. Yes, both editions are encrypted code. This allows me to protect myself from unauthorized distribution of the plugin, and also prevents people from making changes (which can cause problems when there is an update for the plugin). I'm happy to provide in-depth support myself though - I personally developed the plugin, so I can make changes as needed and release new versions to make it compatible with even more plugins. If you want to send me a link to the site using this plugin (send it through my support ticket system), I can take a look at it and let you know if it is a possibility to make it work with that plugin or not.

2. Yes, this is a required step by Amazon. From my personal experience using it, you'll get the best results from preselling your traffic - they basically need to have some kind of interest in the product when they click it. That is why I think the on-site shopping cart works the best - since it puts it in their mind that they will be buying a product. Also, the on-site shopping cart will store contents for up to a week for a user (even anonymous users).

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your business,
Ryan

From what I know you get the 90 days cookie ONLY when someone purchase something through your link, but a direct ADD TO CART button will probably convert less than to the product page. So I will pass on this.

Hi nordend,

You get the 90 day cookie when someone adds a product to their shopping cart with your link. They do not actually have to complete a purchase then. They could come back to Amazon on their own up to three months later, buy that product and even other products (as long as they don't click on other affiliate links) and you would still get credit for everything.

However, your point about the direct links is very valid and something I mentioned above in another post. I think the on-site shopping cart converts the best, but the direct links can still convert well if you make the traffic aware of what the link is for (blindly sending them to that page instead of the product page can be counterproductive like you mentioned though).

Hi Kim,

I had not thought about this until your post, but it is an excellent question. How do you promote Amazon products through Viglink (ie, are you using some type of viglink link or is it an actual Amazon product link that just has their affiliate tag in it)?

I'm very curious to find out more, so I'll be watching out for your reply. If you need to post something you don't want others to see here, feel free to contact me through the support ticket system.

Talk to you again soon,

Ryan, I don`t mind sharing as there is a lot of us who can`t be Amazon affiliates and its growing. I haven`t made a site yet using Viglink but will soon. Its a plugin that uses contextual links within your article body only. These links go to Amazon with an ID and if someone buys something then they take a percentage and you get the rest.

Hi again Kim,

I was taking a look at Viglink's website and managed to find a brief demo:
VigLink - How it Works

On that demo page, there are two different kinds of Amazon affiliate links. I can say for sure that the links at the top will not work (they're cloaked and likely controlled by javascript). The Amazon links at the bottom of that page could possibly work (along with the others if there is a way to disable that cloaking). However, I cannot say for sure how those links actually get into your WP site. If they give you plain HTML with hardcoded Amazon links, they should work fine. However, if they give you javascript or an iframe code to paste into your site, it is likely something that won't work with ExtendAzon.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your interest,
Ryan

Ryan,

With Amazon terminating affiliate accounts for various ambiguous reasons, some people are looking at Skimlinks to run their affiliate links through. Basically you put a regular product link on your site and Skimlinks runs it through a redirect on their server "on click". Does that mean it wouldn't work with your plugin?

Here's their demo page: SkimLinks - Automated affiliate links - affiliate marketing made easy | Skimlinks

Great idea but I don't always use a plugin to build my links. A lot of my Amazon sites are review sites and I use anchor text for the amazon product link. Will this plugin still work for those types of links?

I tried this and it would only work with the direct method. There were some code issues that showed up on the add cart widget when using the onsite choice. Hopefully, there will be a fix for this in the near future...

Hi Isobel,

Unfortunately, it sounds like this isn't something that would work with ExtendAzon. They likely use javascript to perform that redirect. Even if ExtendAzon could convert the original links, they wouldn't work with the Skimlinks system anymore.

Hi maone,

Yes, this is safe and complies with Amazon TOS. The whole system is based on features that Amazon makes available to affiliates through their Product Advertising API.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions,

Hi Gardenbella,

Yes, this should work fine (assuming it is the standard type of Amazon affiliate link that you can generate through your affiliate account - it won't work with the javascript or Enhanced ads you can generate there though).

Hi Chris,

This should still work correctly with the on-site shopping cart widget too. Could you possibly send me a link to the site with this problem (probably best to send it in a support ticket - ExtendAzon Plugin Support )? I'm more than happy to release a bug fix if there is indeed a problem with the plugin, but this should be working properly (could be a configuration problem that is preventing it from working).

Talk to you again soon,
Ryan

I'm curious . . . is the 90-day cookie good for future products they add to their shopping cart during the 90 days? Or is it only good for the product(s) they add to their shopping cart when they link to Amazon via your affiliate link. My understanding was that the 90-day cookie was only good for products that they add to the shopping cart during the visit initiated by the affiliate link. But if it was good for any products they add to the cart and purchase during 90 days, that would be amazing. Can anyone elaborate on this?

I have a WP blog on the main site and a mini e-commerce Amazon store on a sub-domain. I use Fresh Stores for e-commerce. How can I use your plug-in with this configuration?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ryan,

Have you test it with phpZon? It is a widely used plugin. Thanks.

Hi Ryan,

Can the text on the buttons be changed?

Looking at the two demo sites you posted, the buttons read "View On Amazon" and "Read More," respectively. Of course they lead to the shopping cart and not the product page, as one would assume from that button text.

This could take some people aback, as they are expecting to see the product page, not the cart.

I think it would be "safer" to have the button read "Add to cart" instead.

Otherwise, I think this plugin could be dynamite.
