I bought Serpbook just to try it out (because everyone and their brother was recommending it) but I hate it. So eventually I'll be consolidating all my keywords over to Serpfox.

With that said, I'd like to do an update:

So I was thinking about getting a website audit then said "screw that" I can do this shit myself. And the last couple days I have analyzed EVERY possible thing you can imagine. I also did a ton of reading online, and have reached a conclusion about whats going on.

1) I usually use ahrefs to check backlinks but decided to open up SEO Spyglass. When doing so, I noticed a bunch of shitty profile links that I had NEVER built, and I know Isaac would not build. They ALL look like exploit links from GSA, and I NEVER used GSA on this site. I only use GSA on my Clickbank youtube videos, which have nothing to do with this site. So I have to closely monitor those links to make sure my #1 competitor isn't trying to neg SEO my site (which he would definitely be capable of cause he's been to jail before).

On top of that, I noticed in ahrefs, links that *I* built before I gave the site to Isaac. And I never realized how bad my anchor text is, but NONE of my main anchor text is my actual keywords. The good news is, those links aren't spammy or anything (most of them at least), but I definitely need to clean up my anchor text.

2) THE REALLY GOOD NEWS!!!! My site rankings CAME BACK UP for 3 out of 6 keywords. They all came back into the top 3. Then I have a 4th keyword which is on its way back up (moving slowly) and 2 other keywords that are still dancing.

But basically, the 2 keyword Isaac is targeting, are both in the top 3 again. So I'm happy about that.

3) THE BAD NEWS lol. I read a thread on BHW yesterday that was rather revealing, because what the guy spoke about are the EXACT changes I've seen. He said that penguin 2.1 was an update that merged organic listings with google local listings. He didn't say that was all the update was about, but it was definitely part of the update. And he was talking about how all of his clients who were affected, happened to have google local listings, and had their website keywords merged with their local listings, and lost traffic due to this.

Looking at my own site, this is EXACTLY what has happened. Any organic keyword I had showing up, where my google local would show up too, only my google local shows up now for those keywords. They basically disappeared then reappeared in google local. Even long tail local keywords.
So my traffic will never come up to where it was before.

Finally, my conclusion after today is that my site has NOT "tanked". It did dance like crazy, but now that I see keywords coming back up, I have faith I've made it through this. And for every 1 niche I target now, I will need 2 sites. One that is connected to a google local, and another without a google local. Because I will never get my traffic back to where it was before, until I do this.

I have also decided I will not be adding anymore sites to WMT tools, and bought a stat counter membership instead. I have installed it on my new site (that Isaac is ranking) and have seen that the site is already VERY WELL traffic wise. Whats really odd, this site does NOT have a google local, is 6 months younger than my other site (its a brand new site), and is already getting more traffic than my site which has a google local.

So for now on, I'm trying to stay as far away from g local as I can. If I actually wrote out all the math, you guys would see exactly what I mean. I have more keywords, for a much higher amount of searches, ranking in google local, than my new site which has just a few keywords ranking organically, and less searches overall. But that second site is already getting more clicks. So that tells me organic site rankings are far better to have than google local. The only problem is, for a lot of keywords you don't have the choice. Thats why I think its best to have #1 g local rankings on top of #1 organic rankings, using 2 separate sites targeting the same keywords.

Well, thats about it.

I'll continue to monitor my keywords from now on but overall I'm happy as hell that my site didn't completely tank. And when Isaac makes recommendations, you really shouldn't ignore him. Like if you're not 100% sure what you're doing, do NOT build any links to your site. Always monitor to make sure a competitor isn't trying to neg SEO your site. And do not use WMT. I don't have any conclusive proof or evidence that its bad, all I know is Isaac recommends against it, so I'm taking his advice. Not to mention, statcounter is an awesome little tool. Its already given me 2 new keywords people are searching to find my site, keywords I would have never even thought of targeting. It also updates 1000xs quicker than WMT tools, and on that basis alone I'm sold.

Honestly, what is going on?

I don't do SEO for clients. I simply have a start-up ecommerce site and would like Isaac to help me rank.

It's pretty frustrating to see all these great reviews and not be able to at least get one communication from CeasarSEO after 2 weeks of reaching out to him multiple times. I have not purchased from him yet but after absolutely no response, how could I? :confused:

Look at all the amazing reviews here..it looks like you are one of the only ones affected by the Hummingbird..and it has nothing to do with this service or linking here. Look onsite first before bumming out on someones awesome service.

Same here. I have 1 small project with him, and I emailed him to both of his emails back on the 17th and haven't been emailed back. And yes, my rankings dropped significantly as well. This is the first time SEO has been done on this site, though it is a couple years old. I'm not so much concerned about the drop in rankings as I am the lack of response.

I see a lot of heated discussion here.

I shall summarize my opinion in one short paragraph: Isaac is a great asset in the world of SEO services. What do you judge a sports person by - form or class? I do it by class. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Isaac is a class act - so even if there are a couple of people with couple of sites hit, that means a BIG ZERO in the long run of SEO. If you care about the domain, then just get a new site (unless Isaac says otherwise), and let Isaac again take care of it. If some part of Isaac's work is causing some site to tank, he will really find a solution, going by what he has done in the past. And his customer service, integrity etc essential qualities are second to none.

What more would one need to do, to prove their worth in gold?

Ok so let me add to this heated discussion.

First I want to say that Isaac ROCKS.
I love the guy (no gay) and have made a small fortune thanks to this service.

It is clear to me that Isaac is brilliant at ranking sites. Because he got my last site to #1 on G for all my keywords, and my latest site, that I handed over to him about 2 months ago, just hit >>>> #1 on Google for all my most competitive keywords.

This is a more competitive niche, where 1 lead can easily result in a 5 figure sale for us. And he took out a major franchise site, about 400 pages big, in only 6 weeks. This site has been doing SEO for YEARS and I haven't seen them lose rank in a long time (they've always been #2). Then above them, is a 40 year old biz, who does at least 5-10 million a year in this industry. Its a big, old company (with a terrible reputation lol).

Either way, Isaac took out both those sites in only 2 months:



So I can't say anything bad about this service.

But had we not handed this site to him 2 months ago, we'd be in a BAD spot right now, because our previous site, lost rankings, came back for a week, then lost rankings again.... and it seems that site is finished for good. So I'll be contacting Isaac to see if its time to stop doing SEO.

My question is this. Lots of people are saying "don't use spun content on your site".

Which of course I'm doing. But I'm not doing it on any of my main pages. I'm doing it on back pages, then I link those back pages to about 15 manually written pages, and those pages link to my home page. I have no choice because I like to target LOTS of geotargeted towns, and it would take me months, or a nice deal of money to have people write these articles for me (theres about 450 towns in my state although I only target about 50-100 of them). So I write a huge spintax, spin everything well over 90%, and on top of that I go in and edit each article (for about 5 minutes) to remove any grammar mistakes.

The reason I do this is simple. I have a competitor who's been doing something very similar for the last 5-7 years. I've been watching his site for a LOONG time, and have never seen his site take a hit. He ranks EXTREMELY WELL in the Serps. And his rankings are very stable.

Isaac managed to outrank that guys site (for our most competitive keywords), then months later our site lost rank when Hummingbitch turned its ugly face.

In my new niche, where we just hit #1, one of my competitors just uses duplicate content for his geotargeted pages. This is the franchise site I'm talking about.

So what confuses me is why can certain sites can get away with spun content, other sites get away with duplicate content (for 5+ years) but my site only lasts 6 months?

I would love someone to analyze my site vs my competitors site, and explain why my site lost rank but their site survives every update. You can say "its only a matter of time before google finds out" but I'll put money down that Google is never going to penalize their site. Thats how long I've been watching it for.

The only thing I can think of is they are doing better quality spinning. Cause when I saw his 300+ spun geotargeted pages, I thought "damn, who ever spun these articles is a PRO". They seem to be spun a lot deeper, and the quality of the writing is also really well done. Like I'm spinning around 90%+, but I think this guy is spinning at 99% uniqueness. And whoever is writing the spintax's, is a damn good writer. Maybe even a copywriter idk.

So I have a series of questions:

1) On my new site that is ranking #1 now, we need to keep these rankings. I'd really prefer not to make a brand new site like I'm doing for my last one. So do I remove all my geotargeted spun pages? To avoid that site from tanking like my last site?

This will reduce the size of the site by a sizable amount. It'll go from about 70 pages to about 25.

2) Do I try to do better spinning like my competitor? Orrr, do I just use duplicate content?

3) I can pay to have the articles manually written, but you figure I need about 100 articles (ideally), the lowest prices I can find are $5-$10 an article. So that puts me at around $500-$1000 just to get the geotargeted content done. Which can get me 5-10 months of SEO with Isaac.

4) Do I forget about geotargeted content altogether? These are loaded questions I know. But I'm obviously not paying Isaac to rank all these geotargeted pages. There are hundreds of them and the profits wouldn't be worth it due to the low amount of searches for each keyword (some are around 60 searches / month, some around 20, many have no data at all). But I DID notice, when my last site was new, it was picking up a decent amount of extra traffic from those spun geotargeted pages. I'd say like 15% of our traffic was coming from random geotargeted pages that started ranking as a result of our main pages ranking.

I have a problem with writing huge posts, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to maximize traffic and reduce risk.

One of the core reasons I spin these pages (aside from my competitors doing it) is mere randomness. If I have 100 spun pages, then Isaac starts ranking my home page, a small amount of those spun pages will RANDOMLY rank above the fold on Google. Maybe like 20-30 will pop up out of 100.

But if I had a way to rank these pages #1 on my own, I'd write all the content manually or pay someone to do it.

The problem is... I suck at SEO. The only tools I know how to use are GSA and SB and those tools work great for ranking videos, but I would never trust them on my sites.

Then you have to factor in the unknown. Say I manually do these geo targeted pages, and I take my time doing clean, manual backlinks to each page... but the site still gets hit, I'd be 1 pissed mfkr and would come into this thread bitching like a baby (just being honest). And I'd be a lot more persistent than guys like Black Metal. Black Metal made one post than vanished. He didn't come back to argue Isaacs response (which was really weird). The guy made some extremely bold statements. So that tells me he had to be doing something shady on his end.

The reality is, if I hadn't used spun content on my last site, right now I'd be trying to find reasons to blame Isaac. Even though I love the guy and think he's a genius, and have made lots of good money with him.. I've seen lots of good SEO services tank over the years.

So my question is for you guys doing local marketing or reselling SEO to local businesses. What is your game plan for long tail geo targeted keywords? Should I manually do all these pages, link them to a county page, then have Isaac rank the county pages? (maybe that will get some of the towns pages to #1?) Or do you ignore long tail keywords? I'm just curious how other guys are going about this.

Simple answer. Keep doing what you've been doing, just repeat it 2-3 times a year. In other words, after being #1 for 3 months, start building a new site and let Isaac do his magic. Once a new one is about to hit the top, dump the old one and repeat...

He actually did come back and argued with Isaac. It went one for few hours, but those posts were removed and only the first or the second was left. Just a late night entertainment, nothing earth shuttering ;-)

SirThomas, is this the strategy you use yourself? Reason I'm asking is I've tried something similar, but for some reason I have like a 50/50 chance that the new site gets any traction.

Do you stick the new site on the same hosting account? New design, all new content? Or is the new site very similar to the old one?

No. I said that, because Red just mentioned that Isaac got his "new" site to #1 in six weeks in even more competitive niche. Therefore, his technique works. If anything, once the site on the top I'd leave it alone. If your competition has 400 pages, you don't necessarily have to have 500 to beat them...:-)

Because the linking strategy might also be a contributor to (at some point) loosing your high ranking, in my opinion you would be better off creating a brand new site instead of stressing out and fighting a probably lost cause.

I am not sure, if you need to switch hosting companies. He already has a new site at the top, probably using the same host? We will have to wait for Red to chip in and confirm that. The only problem that I can see is re-using your company name and phone number. That's why I believe that having those items in form of image is safer in a long run...

Have you ever checked what the PPC competition is like? If the ads are not very well optimized for each of those towns (which is likely the case), Adwords may be the way to go.

New order coming up: 9LF76560GE427114X. A bit of thought on the recent update. I had 2 sites affected by the penguin update. However I believe it has more to do with over anchor optimization than anything else. (Due to my own meddling) I have many sites with Caesar that are completely unaffected.

If you have been affected it is most likely due to some past seo efforts. I have complete confidence Caesar will be able to weather any near future big G update. You must keep the faith!
