You can't really mean one has to RTFM???

With my work over the years in corporate computer security I've collected quite a few stories like the "cup-holder" feature on the computer (read that the DVD/CD tray).

If you don't have access there are very inexpensive ways to get your questions answered by a legal professional. Then it would be appropriate to post the resulting questions, if any.
I beleive it is a waste of time and money to buy something you can't use due to some legal issues.
As good as the product may be, sellers must do their due dilligent to protect buyers from any unsuspecting legal problems prior to marketing their products.

@ ForumGuru was right to highlight potential problems.

I like what you can do with this product, but unless the issues highlighted by GuruForum are resolved, I would not be buying it. Some of us don't have the time to go through all TOS before buying a product, therefore, it is a good idea for someone else who is knowledgeable to publicise potential problems if the seller has missed those out.

Another question is: can you make your own video with this product without highjacking other people's videos?

Thanks in advance.

Just thought I would chime in - yes, you can use your own videos with this product. It doesn't create or make videos, it is what I like to refer to as an advanced marketing video player/tool. You can import self-hosted videos or those hosted on Amazon S3 into the player.

Some of us only use our own videos or affiliate videos, whether Youtube or self-hosted. So, I don't have to worry about copyright, when it comes to videos. I think some people are focusing solely on Youtube. Now, if that's all you need a player for, then I understand. However, there is more to this than Youtube - when managing a client's marketing campaign, I always insist on using both Youtube and self-hosted, same as I do with mine.

There seems to a problem with the server hosting the instructional videos. I was able to download but when looking at the videos all I see is a blank screen. I thought it might be problem with google chrome not working with SVP but firefox did not work either. I then tried to watch some of your instamagic plugin videos and they have the same problems there.

Your support desk also has a captcha problem the image does not appear until the submit button is pressed then appears for such a short time I is almost impossible to type it into the box. Hence my need to use this forum to notify you of a problem. I did try to use the support desk first!

I am pretty sure this is Windows and Mac compatible since it doesn't install on your computer.

Whew,

I don't post often here, but finally got the plugin installed, did not work with WP plugin upload feature. Bought the OTO (Fanbuzz) I had to FTP the files. Now the SVP does not function correctly. I used the support system, but the reply was to change the PHP configuration, which I had already done, as the main plugin will not even be revealed until that is correct. Now, there is no SVP option in the editor bar in WP, not sure what is going on there. (This all could be my ignorance )

I tried different browsers, different themes, and I did USE their support email too.

This looks like a very useful plugin, but has been one of the most frustrating installations I have ever had with a plugin. Not to mention the convoluted licensing procedure. This is me mostly just ranting, as I just want the plugin to work! Can't say this was quite ready for prime time. I hope the developers and the support team can correct the glitches in the not too distant future.

That's enough with the arguing about copyright and legal issues. Everyone's made their points. Any further hijacking of the thread and people will be getting forum vacations.

You can embed any YouTube video using Simple Video Pro, as long as the owner of the video allows it by having embedding turned on. If an owner of a video does not want you to use their video, they can turn embedding off at anytime.

I am very interested in your product and below I have listed a few of my specific questions/concerns with regards to your player and it's feature set and I would like some further explanation and/or clarification before I purchase.

YouTube's APIs and Refresher on our Terms of Service <----

Videos belong to their owners - YouTube is a hosting platform. The videos themselves belong to the content owner (anyone from a major studio to a mother recording her son's graduation). -> [1] In all cases, the content owner decides how and where their YouTube videos are distributed. Sometimes, video owners don't want others to profit from their work, or sometimes they may want to restrict where their videos are shown. While you may disagree with this decision, we need to respect the content owners' wishes.

(From YouTube's Copright Permission Page)The rights to any screen shots or footage of third party content on our site are not ours to grant. Additionally, there is no general public record of who owns the rights to particular works. We therefore can't assist you with identifying and contacting the party that owns the rights to a particular work. You would need to follow up with the individual content owners regarding the rights to this footage. You may want to try emailing the user through your YouTube account.
Standard YouTube video player is key - Consistency in terms of quick video loads and playbacks is a hallmark of the YouTube experience. --> [2] We therefore ask that you don't enable videos for download, modify a video in any way, or enable playback through means other than other --> official embeddable players.

--> [3] Don't serve or strip ads from the video - Serving your own ads against a video without sharing revenue with the content creator, or YouTube, is against the TOS. <--

--> [4] So is using technology that strips out the ads we're serving on videos. Doing this deprives the uploader from legitimate earnings from his or her work. If you want to learn more about monetizing your YouTube apps, check out our API monetization guide. <--

--> [7] You agree not to use the YouTube API for any of the following commercial uses unless You obtain YouTube's prior written approval:

the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the YouTube audiovisual content or player;

Showing ads on your website

You can show ads on pages that display content retrieved from the API if certain conditions are met. For example, you can let users enter a search query (or retrieve a standard YouTube feed, such as top-rated or most recent videos) and show ads on the search results page.

-->However, you cannot run advertisements on pages that play our video content unless there is a significant amount of other important content on the page, meaning that users come to the page to access other content besides the video. In that limited case, you can run ads as long as those ads are targeted to the other content on the page and not to the video or video metadata. For example, if your page displays a video with a news article, blog entry or user profile information, then you can display ads on the page as long as the ads are targeted to the article, blog entry or user profile data.

Note: If the only reason people go to a page is to watch a video, you should not run ads on that page. If you don't know whether you can display ads on a page, consider whether you would still be able to sell the ad inventory if you removed the video and all references to the video from the page. If so, then you can probably display ads on the page.

What kinds of commercial uses of the YouTube website are prohibited and which aren't?

We've updated our Terms of Use to clarify what kinds of uses of the website and the YouTube Embeddable Player are permitted. We don't want to discourage you from putting the occasional YouTube video in your blog to comment on it or show your readers a video that you like, even if you have general-purpose ads somewhere on your blog. [8] --> We will, however, enforce our Terms of Use against, say, a website that does nothing more than aggregate a bunch of embedded YouTube videos and intentionally tries to generate ad revenue from them.

What kinds of commercial uses of the YouTube website are prohibited and which aren't? - YouTube
I pulled all of the is info from the API TOS and it's related material and according to the stated terms a content owner is not forced to block content to his own and other authorized sites just to stop unauthorized use

I am sorry but your statements to me seem rather incomplete, and to be quite frank, your player and you words appear to be in some contradiction with YouTube API TOS and other related TOS & conditions. If somehow the player is not violating terms then it certainly appears to me as if a user could/would very easily violate many terms very quickly if not extremely careful.

Honestly I do want to purchase and use this tool but to this point I see too many issues that I am hoping you can clear up. I have numbered 8 major points of my concern above that are very important to me --> and I don't have your player yet so please do give me some clarification and explanation. I know basically what your player can do...but I have not used it. I don't want to violate YT/Google TOS as I have already put the last 10 years into doing things the right way and I would be much appreciated if you would please address each the points I have numbered to alleviate my concerns.

Thank you kindly.

Hi,

I am not really sure how these questions are related to Simple Video Pro itself.

It seems in EVERY instance above your concerns stem from using someone else's potentially copyrighted content. In no way that I am aware do we encourage this behavior, and we certainly don't force anyone to do so.

To me it's simple: SVP allows you to (among other things) stream YouTube videos -- through the YouTube API -- to the SVP platform. It is completely YOUR choice as to what video you stream, and what other features of SVP you use in addition to the streaming.

Like buying a chainsaw -- what you do with it is entirely up to you. You can cut down trees on your own property, or you can choose to "visit" someone else's property and cut down their trees. You could even use it to cut off someone's leg if you so choose. Is the chainsaw maker now liable for your crimes?

As I mentioned before, I don't think conversations about copyright belong in this thread. If you have doubts about using someone else's content -- don't. Or, get their permissions first. Problem solved.

I've bought the player and really like what I see so far.

However, there is one problem which I need help with:

It seems to be waiting for the whole video to load before it starts playing. This is causing a long delay of about 10 seconds before the video starts to play. This was not happening with my previous video player.

Is there a solution to this? A buffering of some sort?

I just don't think someone should have to wait for the whole video to load before it starts playing.

Other than this problem, I am very happy with the purchase.

Kenneth L,

We do use buffering and it has been working quite well. Videos should start playing well before they are fully loaded - you can tell by watching the control bar...

It could be other things as well... I know that on my computer, if I have a million tabs open, ALL flash players slow down, even YouTube itself.

However, we may need to re-visit and further optimize how we are using buffering. And we can take another look at hardware vs software acceleration.

I'm sending you a PM with my contact information so we can talk.

I guess my point is that I will do anything I can to fine tune Simple Video Pro as much as needed. I am the programmer - so I don't have to go to a third party or out-source person to get things changed, have features added, or fine tune things. I get it done!

Talk with you soon,

~ Nick

Hello Nick and Mike.... congrats on the efforts and software launch. I do understand the concern people have as far as playing content that we can ad our own ads and social tabs and even buy button. Even with the authorization of playing our own or our clients videos we want to make sure that we cover our "assets" in the case that some other 3rd party does not understand that it is not violating the TOS. With that assurance I know that the licensing etc comments will cease. Please clarify that part where we can protect ourselves from those that have that concern like our clients.

Also, I wanted to know if the actual video can auto play as soon as the visitor reaches the page with whatever device they choose and not have to wait for the individual to click on the play button. Now as far as future updates to be included I would like to see that to be grandfathered with this offer knowing that it solidifies any other concern we might have. Thank you

LevyMarketing,

Yes - you can set auto-play... however, some devices do not allow it - no matter what player is being used.

Yes: Updates are included for one year. Anyone who has purchased my products can tell you that I take customer suggestions and if they make sense, I build it in -- and I do so very often... And that is a huge value!

For example: tomorrow, I am starting on an update to make SVP work with responsive themes - and I am working closely with an SVP customer in the process.... pretty cool, huh?

PS: right now I am working on an update that will solve some theme issues people have been seeing and also fix some other minor issues. It will also make some other things easier along the way. It should be out soon.

So - expect lots of new cool stuff - that is not just lip-service, it is a fact.

thanks Nick for replying. I still would like to know about the concern many have including potential clients with the licensing. I understand it but like many individuals we want to make sure no one else mis interprets and something from your attorneys or something that can state that users of this plugin are not violating tos but infact within their rights. As far as the updates I thank you for the examples and it is indeed important for the feedback, I was hoping for included lifetime updates for this particular campaign before it closes. Thanks

oy MATEY!

Bought this SVP sucker almost 3 days ago now, seems you've lumped the SVP into FANBUZZ's app well we had problems right out the gate getting fanbuzz like reveal to work properly...doesnt post to facebook even though it says it has

so I am a patient sort...sent in a trouble ticket, heard exactly nothing back in two days

Now I see a new download has been issued, well when I follow the instructies i get a plugin that won't upload to wordpress

whats more is the link that is produced is waaaay longer then the 1st one i got

1st one looked sumthin like this
a10-fanbuzz-wordpressu-php5-3-v1-2-0-014_zip

the new one we get has a long string of mumbo jumbo after that

played around trying this and that, but nothing gets the plugin link to work with wordpress uploader

NOW..as I said I am patient, but i thought i would go to support and lodge another ticket....wrote a real eloquent one complete with threats and all LOL...for some reason when i click submit ticket....nothing happens

sorry to rail on your page here mate, but i am getting exactly f-all action thru support! shoot me an email or tely or something so we can work this out before I resort to trading f-you's and requesting an orderly fisticuff!

smile ya *******, I aint that mad yet

Great product whos time has come. A few questions...
  1. Will this Word Press plugin work with the OptimizePress theme?
  2. Can the video be re-directed to another link or page after the video plays?
  3. Can the videos be hosted on my site only?
  4. If I get the developers license, can I charge clients to make them videos with these features?
  5. Can I use already published videos on YouTube or do I have start from scratch?
  6. Can I really put a PayPal button right on my video the is hosted on YouTube? Right there on YouTube dotcom?! Wow!
  7. If someone likes my video on YouTube or Tweets it or Likes it on Facebook or posts it on their Facebook wall or embeds it on their site, will all the features be transferred and visible on their wall, YouTube account, Tweets, etc.?
Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

CTB,

I would feel the same way. Honestly. And I apologize. We really are trying to get to people - the reality is that we have a small percentage of customers with support tickets - but with thousands sold, that small percentage is a big number for us to handle.

We never expected this kind of response. We have 3 new support staff working on the support center as well as myself. I would love to follow up with you, but I need a way to find you, my friend... can you give me your ticket number? Otherwise, I gotta guess who you are.

~ Thanks

---------------------------

jwebdd:

Thanks for answering some of these questions.

To answer yours - yes, I am making sure the viral buttons work on embedded videos. They worked in our testing, but I cannot anticipate all the server / site configurations out there.

I do know this: if another plug-in on your site loads its own version of jQuery and does not use WordPress' version, it can conflict. I coded it to use the best practices defined by WP to maximize compatibility. I cannot prevent other plug-in developers from doing their own thing. -- not saying that is the problem here, but it very well could be...

Anyway - I am really working hard to get this out to everyone. There'll be some changes - and things will be a LOT smoother.

~ Nick

1. We have several people using OP... it works for most -- but honestly, a couple have had some layout issues. I'm working with them on it.

2. Yes

3. The video source can be hosted on your site, on S3 or on YouTube.

4. This does NOT produce videos that you can give to people / upload to YouTube. It uses and plays videos that have already been created. And it gives you the power to add dynamic banners, logos, buy buttons and all the other features to videos that it plays on your sites. With Developer, you can install this plug-in on your client sites and they can benefit from it on their sites.

5. Yes - see 3 and 4.

6. No - see 4.

7. Facebook and YouTube use their own method of playing video. No one can add any ads, overlays to videos on FB and YT. A FB Like will like the page the video is on. A Pin will pin the YouTube page -- use this only for your own YouTube videos to get them viewed and ranked. A tweet will tweet the page the video is on.

In the case of affiliate embeds, all the links, likes and tweets will spread the affiliate link - and that leads to your sales pages.

I hope this helps.

~ Nick

Hi Nick,

Re ticket [#173047]
Appreciate you're overloaded but my staff member sitting on his hands for last 3 days waiting on response.

MY UNIX HOSTING advises Zend Guard Loader is not available on FreeBSD Unix, only IonCube. If I want Zend Guard Loader Module installed I must migrate my site to Linux server. I do not want Linux server.
Will or Can you please accept IonCube?

Appreciate your early response

My experience so far:

Buying/installing: Very smooth, easy with the tutorials provided

Actually putting videos up: Very, very troublesome.

A) Videos don't even show in Google Chrome for me, no idea why.

B) I can't get the Aweber embed code to work, using javascript/html and styled/nostyled nothing works

Those 2 are detrimental errors and I'm truly clueless as to why it doesn't work, can there be some kind of theme violation? (Using WooThemes)

UPDATE: Tried installing the plugin on a completely fresh wordpress install, and guess what: everything works wonderfully. Quite weird.

Two new problems:

Optin Form gives no way to continue without opting in and when i put in my email the page where the video is playing is replaced with the aweber confirmation window. I did tell the web form to "stay on current page"

Edit: Updating WooCommerce to 1.6.4 and now the audio plays (set video to play automatically) AND the optin form actually shows up, but the video is just a white square in chrome.

In internet explorer the video plays correctly, but no signup form appears (the video is frozen at the time the signup form should appear)

I mean, all these mishaps just seem completely random - is there no rhyme or reason to it?

What's up with support? So far it sucks.

After installation all I get is error messages on the page. I submitted a ticket over 24 hours ago and no response.

It would be nice to have some sort of status.

Nick, I am getting an error message conflicting with another plugin I use for my squeeze page.

I am hopeful there is a work around, however your support site will not let me submit a new ticket?!

Been following this thread, yes 28 pages!! I think this is an awesome player and I'm in love with what it can do. Is it possible to be notified when the program is stable? I honestly am interested

* Nick n Mike, you've done a great job and I'm confident when the dust settles this will be one bad-a$$ video player!!

Hello. Unfortunately it appears as if you have avoided most of my 8 specific SVP concerns with regards Goog/YT API user and dev terms.

It seems in EVERY instance above your concerns stem from using someone else's potentially copyrighted content.

Sorry... That's not true at all and you have conveniently skipped over the points that you did not want to address. I have PLENTY of my own material so please address the OTHER points of concern that I have identified.

[7] You agree not to use the YouTube API for any of the following commercial uses unless You obtain YouTube's prior written approval:
the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the YouTube audiovisual content or player;

[5] access any portion of any YouTube audiovisual content by any means other than use of a YouTube player or other video player expressly authorized by YouTube;

[2] We therefore ask that you don't enable videos for download, modify a video in any way, or enable playback through means other than other official embeddable players.

[3] Don't serve or strip ads from the video - Serving your own ads against a video without sharing revenue with the content creator, or YouTube, is against the TOS.

[4] So is using technology that strips out the ads we're serving on videos. Doing this deprives the uploader from legitimate earnings from his or her work.

In no way that I am aware do we encourage this behavior, and we certainly don't force anyone to do so.

Really? You basically encourage the taking of ANY video without permission in your FAQ!

Originally Posted by MikeLantz Simple Video Pro uses the YouTube API as it is meant to be used. It does not "alter the YouTube player" in any way. It does not use the YouTube player at all, in fact. The YouTube API is meant to be used for things just like this.

You can embed any YouTube video using Simple Video Pro, as long as the owner of the video allows it by having embedding turned on. If an owner of a video does not want you to use their video, they can turn embedding off at anytime.
That bolded statement you made in your FAQ is basically telling everyone to screw the content provider and YT--> you are using the video no matter what. It's a completely silly statement because blocking unauthorized use by disabling embeds would block our own sites as well as authorized sites from displaying our own content! That's not what YouTube ToS or copyright law states...in-fact YT ToS states almost the opposite.

To me it's simple: SVP allows you to (among other things) stream YouTube videos -- through the YouTube API -- to the SVP platform. It is completely YOUR choice as to what video you stream, and what other features of SVP you use in addition to the streaming.

So how many features do you think are breaking Goog/YT terms? Which specific ones?

Like buying a chainsaw -- what you do with it is entirely up to you.

Chainsaws are not forced to comply with YT ToS or US Copyright law...your tool and users of your tool are.

As I mentioned before, I don't think conversations about copyright belong in this thread.

I am asking what specific features break YT ToS...and how your tool complies with Dev terms and ToS both. (see my points above) I have pointed to many areas other than direct copytheft that are a concern. Please tell me what features are legal to use on YT and which are not.

If you have doubts about using someone else's content -- don't. Or, get their permissions first. Problem solved.

Problem not solved because you have skipped almost all of my ToS questions (please see above).

Mike
If it's not too much trouble instead of trying to imply that copytheft is my only concern please do read ALL of the points I have listed ---> especially the ones that I just repeated on this post.

Also, considering YT ToS and US copyright law don't you think your FAQ statement is incorrect and incomplete?

Please do address points 7, 5, 2, 3 and 4 that you skipped over completely. It would be nice if you addressed them point for point with regards to how your player does things legally and how we can use those features without breaking terms or the law.

Thank you kindly.

I submitted a ticket to support about not getting to the OTO page. They sent me some other info but not what I wanted. I still need the link to the OTO page and when I tried to submit another ticket, I get this...
Unable to create a ticket. Please correct errors below and try again!

I tried 3 times and am still getting this error. All I want is the link to get to the OTO page.

I'm not sure why they are still even answering your questions? After your attempt to pretty much make them out to be criminals, I would have told you 2 days ago that I didn't want you as a customer.

No, you don't need to download anything - You just need the URL in the case of youtube or a URL in the case that you are using a self hosted video.

So you don't need to actually download the videos at all. You simply copy and paste a link into a box and you are good to go.

I've installed the plugin on a handful of sites and I think I've pretty much run the gambit on things that COULD go wrong, and luckily I've been able to pretty much work all the issues out on my own

The one big thing I've learned is to NEVER TAKE YOUR HOSTS WORK FOR IT. Not only did they mislead me about zend, but ioncube as well in another case.

Looks like a great product. I was very excited and I bought it. Unfortunately I can't get it to work. I submitted 2 support requests. I didn't get a response to the first one. The second request, which was four days later was a refund request. John offered to help me get this to work but I haven't heard from anyone since.

Video 'Players' - Question for Re-direct
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I have used the video player now, and I need to ask a question - I got the Simple Video Pro License (unlimited) but did not go for the $20 upgrade -

When I input the re-direct url, it did not function - meaning, I went and watched my video & when it got to the end no re-direct occurred.

Do I need to test it somehow, suggestions pls.

Thank you.

I've been playing around with it and so far so good, I'd also like to add that I would like an option not to cloak links for the next upgrade.

I had the same problems, the support reply was just a canned response. I finally tried using FTP, but I suspect some file got corrupted or such, as now the plugin is available but the SVP does not function. The support is non-existant or at least unbelievably slow. If I buy the $47 license, can I upgrade to the $67 license if/when I get clients?

Just Wondering!

Since this has been in the hands of marketers for a while now, and enough time to show results has anyone purchased it and used it, and the results with screen shots would be nice? Thanks

Thank you.
@PianoRosa: When I viewed your piano lesson video on your blog, the social media icons and the Buy button appeared as they should. However, when I viewed the same video on your piano lesson site, the social media icons appeared but NO Buy button appeared. And this is where you need it, on your money page! I wonder what the problem is. Did you embed code from one page to another (and if so, which had the original SVP)?, or did you create a separate SVP on each of the 2 pages?
