Dear Fellow Warrior,

The ultimate underdog tale of the diminutive shepherd boy David defeating the giant, menacing warrior Goliath in a fight to the death.

Most of us can probably identify with this story on some level….after all everyone LOVES a good underdog story.

Ok, did I lose you at the words The Bible? If religion ain’t your thang’, no worries.

Truth is, you don’t need to look any further than Hollywood.
How good (or bad) a movie is ultimately depends on the quality of the story it tells.

Simply put, that’s what a movie is! A compelling story in audio/visual format.

Hi, my name is Adam Napolitano, and I’ve been told that I’m a grumpy cat.

Actually, to be more specific, not a grumpy cat, but a grumpy pharmacist.

That’s right, I am a pharmacist. Or as some people like to affectionately call us, a “pill pusher”. Personally, I prefer “the legal drug dealer”, but apples and oranges I suppose.

I graduated from pharmacy school in 2009 with a whopping $150,000 student loan debt, and aspirations of taking the pharmacy profession by storm.

I completed a year of postgraduate training to deepen my drug knowledge and hone my clinical patient skills.

I ate “pharmacy” for breakfast and crapped it out for dinner (gross, I know).

I was a MACHINE. I was excited. I was ready.

Then IT Happened…

Then I joined the “Real World” (No, not the mind-numbing reality show).

I entered the workforce and landed a real job as a practicing pharmacist. After working for almost 2 years I came to a startling realization: I. Was. Miserable.

I remember thinking, “Can I imagine doing this for the next 40 years?”

The Answer: panic attack. Well, almost. I felt flush, my ears were on fire, I started sweating, and suddenly my heart was racing.
To be honest, it kind of freaked me out at the time.

But one thing was clear…there was NO way I could be a pharmacist for the rest of my life.

Sure, it’s ok for a short-term solution. And to be fair, there has been rewarding moments. But if I’m miserable most of the time, then what’s the point?


Do You Like to Drink Water?

Odd question, I know. Personally, I like drinking water. It’s my beverage of choice (when I’m not boozing).

Would you guess at my pharmacy employer, we are NOT allowed to drink anything, including water while we work in the pharmacy?

Keep in mind, I am sitting in front of a computer in a cubicle most days. That’s it. Apparently, our employer thinks we’ll be more productive if we are dehydrated…

Then there’s the fact that some customers are allowed to physically threaten us when they pick up their prescriptions….but God forbid if we should come across as rude defending ourselves.

Turns out I DO NOT take kindly to some doped-out douche bag saying he’s going to punch me in the face if I don’t give him his OxyContin 10 days early…

Needless to say, I realized I needed to start making a transition away from pharmacy….and THAT’s where writing entered the scene.


I Have a Confession to Make: For Most of my Life I HATED Writing

That may sound weird, but it’s true. And I finally figured out why: the only writing I had ever done was purely academic.

Discuss the use of symbolism in Shakespeare’s The Twelfth Night…

Argue for or against the use of animals in medical testing…

Explain the difference in side effect profile and efficacy between typical and atypical antipsychotics…

Loads gun….pulls trigger.

Seriously, it’s no wonder why I hated writing so much….I was bored out of my friggin’ mind!

It wasn’t until recently, that I started writing to help release negative thoughts and emotions and manifest positive ones. I actually enjoyed doing this, and before long it turned into writing for leisure and on stuff that I’m passionate about.


It didn’t take long to realize that I was having fun and was pretty damn good if I do say so myself (and yes, I do).

Sorry, the pharmacy geek in me just couldn’t resist! But seriously though, the fact that you are here right now tells me something.
