Calling data from Wordpress database - newbie help required

Hi guys,

As part of my site I am hoping to have a regular upload of data into a mysql server which is then called by different pages on my website.

e.g. I want to upload 1 week of football data (teams, fixtures, competition etc) then have a page for "English Premier League" which queries the database and returns all games which are happening in the English Premier Leauge over the next week.

I'm also looking to "scrape" this data from an external website to regularly update my database - Is it possible to automate this?

I know very little about the technology required and would just like some advice as to the best way to approach this.

Thanks!
Jimmy

There really is no short quick answer for all that!
WordPress will handle much of what you want but you'll need to either create a custom theme, or modify an existing theme.

There are several football type themes out there that do what you want already.
Based on the question, this is not going to be a do it yourself thing.

You'll need to hire someone to help you who knows what they are doing.

Thanks for the response David, I'm absolutely willing to hire an expert though finances are certainly limited!

In terms of hiring, can I realistically find someone on fiverr who will do the bulk of it for a reasonable rate or do I need to look on elancer or similar?

To me, fiverr is for quick, cheap and dirty. I can't imagine a professional WordPress developer even being on fiverr.
I've corrected/fixed sooooooo much work that had been done on fiverr it's not even funny, and that was basic stuff any amateur should know.

Sure, try elancer or here on the WF hiring subforum.

You might find a theme that does much of what you want already, (or even a plugin) than hire someone to tweak it.

it can certainly be done, but not an easy self fix.

You can give it a shot and hire someone from freelancer.com or odesk.

    Goodluck.
