I am new web design, I am using smart space by Go Daddy but really don't like it. I would love to find the right web design software (studio) to use and then just upload to Go Daddy with a FTP client. Please help? Thank you very much.

Nothing beats Adobe Suite (photoshop, dreamweaver, flash, so on) Cs4 is the latest, its the only software I use. Its great for FTPing also. Its pretty expensive, but I believe you can get free versions, all you have to do is go to youtube n search the video for " how to get ---- free" and it will show show you.. good luck

if this helped please dont hesitate to click the thanks button below. let me know if this helped

I agree about the Adobe Suite comment. I have used almost nothing but Adobe for years. I am a graphic and web designer.

You can also get easy access to the free trials by going to adobe.com ... They will give you the option there to download the trials, which are fully functional. I have never seen anything to compare to these products.

The only time compatibility comes into play is when you're talking about installing an application on your computer. In that case, there is no software that I'm aware of that can be installed on both a Mac & Windows platform. There are normally separate versions for each platform.

If you're asking about creating web pages that display properly on both Mac & PC, then it doesn't matter. Web pages are not platform dependent. What does affect how they display is the web browser being used, which is something you have no control over. Some browsers are better at following W3 standards for display than others. In general, you create your web pages to display properly on the majority of your site's visitors' computers, and live with the fact that some people will simply not see the site as it was intended to be displayed. You can also grind your brain into dust trying to include all of the hacks needed for all of the potential browser/OS combinations that people might be running when they visit. IMHO, it's not worth the effort, but there will likely be others who disagree.

    HTH,
    Tim

A program like NVU or Kompozer NVU will run on both.

No. The same application will not run on both. You have to use different installers, right? No big deal, if it's a freebie, but if the OP is considering spending money... it matters a lot.

I use dreamweaver and as Aronya said, they are two different installers, one that installs on mac and the other that works on windows. I've also heard of Xsitepro, though i've not tried it yet but you can google it and see if it suits you.

Well, no kidding. Obviously you have to get the one for your platform. But, they are the same program.

I'm just trying to keep things clear for the OP. Take a look at the title of this thread, and read the starting post. Does that suggest someone who understands the platform issue?

I use Netbeans IDE on Mac and I believe its on Windows too, or Coda for Mac is really nice - built-in Manuals, SSH Client, FTP and the usual editors.

It DW CS4 faster to FTP than DW 8.0.2...?
    8.0.2 is sooo slow...

A FTP-proggie is even faster than DW.

Hi, I've been using Dreamweaver for years now, Mac & Pc compatible via different versions. But lately I've been using Wordpress to create static pages with just a few tweaks-this makes everything really quick and easy to update, and gets better search engine rankings.
    Hope this helps
