WordPress Site: Custom Theme or Pre-made Theme?

Looking to build a website.
There is already an existing theme that I like and want to use, not to mention its features and ease of use.

I'm working with a development team and filled them in on what's needed, but now they are saying they will create it using a custom WordPress theme instead of using the pre-made theme I want and working with that.

What are the pros/cons to each?

Should I be concerned that there may be issues with a custom WordPress theme?

I want to be able to update/make changes to it in the future myself (not a programmer), so the sounds of a "custom theme" makes me a little concerned. Should I be?

Custom theme means that your developer want to make changes as per your requirement if the theme you have selected do not contain the functionality you are asking for, otherwise I do not find a reason to go for a custom theme.

You can make minor changes to both custom as well as pre made theme as both will have the same sort of admin panel from where you can control things. So my suggestion to you is to go for a custom theme only if your current theme do not have the functionality you are looking for, not otherwise. Cheers!!

Are developers on hourly or per project rates?
Perhaps they just want to charge you for something that you already have!

How good are the developers? Modifying an existing theme would be my preference for sure.

      They are per-project.
