magento and magento theme question

I've seen some really good shops with magento themes and never really used magento before, and will be outsourcing someone to do the installing and setting up of the theme. Below are some questions that I have.

1. Is this like a wordpress thing where I can login to an admin area and upload or create and publish?

2. I understand it cost money for the magento theme (the one that I want) but is magento itself free to use or cost money?

Thanks in advance!

One of my clients was interested in a Magento e-commerce site. Since I've never built one, I did some research. Magento is open source code, has a admin area, uses a MySQl database, and has a variety of apps and extensions, similar to Word Press. However, implementing a Magento site is quite different from a WordPress site. It takes quite a bit of knowledge to get it setup properly, not to mention a lot of time.

An important part of implementing a Magento site is having the proper features enabled on your server. Your best bet is using a hosting provider that is familiar with a Magento installation, like BlueHost. They will make sure the server is setup properly. There are free themes available, but you may have to get help installing and setting it up. Most of the free help that I found is for the basic setup. If you need additional help, you will probably have to pay for it.

My client did decide to go with the Magento site. He contracted a company that was familiar with Magento. However, it still took them about 8 months to get it up and running. I did have access to the admin panel. It was nothing like being in Word Press. To learn more about Magento, visit their web site or forum (Magento - Forum - eCommerce Software for Growth). You may be able to get all your answers before moving forward.

By the way, he never told me how much it cost, but judging by how long it took, I'm sure it was not cheap.

    Good luck!

I am not into programming, but would like to suggest you the way through which you can design your own Magento themes in just a few hours, TemplateToaster. Using this software, you just need to design your Magento themes and install that theme onto your respective CMS. Here Magento -TemplateToaster you can see the steps that how to upload and configure TemplateToaster generated themes on Magento.
