Learn HTML & CSS. Use CSS for layout. Then write quality content for your pages that is relevant to what you are promoting. That will take you 90% of the way. The last 10% will take up more of your time than it's worth, so forget it. Spend your time on driving & converting traffic to your new website. When that's working well, start a new site. Lather, rinse, repeat.

One of the best sites is right here..... You are in the Web Design forum, but if you look around the entire site you will see that this is what people are all talking about.

Take your time, read the posts and most of all get active. Don't just sit in this forum, but look at the the others that are available on the site.

    Have a Great Day!

If you want to learn SEO here it is:

    - put your targeted keywords in the Title of your page and 1-2 times in the body

    - put content on your website on a regular basis

    - get links from other sites to your content

    that's it

I'll second that statement. The rules are great... until they aren't. I've had numerous experiences where none of the SEO strategies explain why one of my sites shows up #2 or #3 on Google - for phrases that I never even used on the page - ahead of other sites that are much more targeted to the search term.
