It looks like a pretty clean web page, but it needs more. There is no navigation bar or an about me page etc. It needs a lot more content. Starting to look good though.

First thing my eyes go to are the brief case, so I have no context for what your site is about, or why I'm here, and my brain has to struggle to search for meaning, next the eyes move to the right, because the text is black, everything else is gray into the background, so I see "home owner/sitter responsibilities", still only a vague context.

My eyes are looking for the meaning of the page, the "why am I here?" so I jump from "home owner/sitter responsibilities" to "dog care" to "contact forms" because of all the strong colors on very light grey, which makes the articles difficult to read.

"You're gonna be a great house sitter" leaves me with little context - I'm asking, "how is this site going to help me? The title is vague, and doesn't tell me what benefit I'll get from reading the page".

I love your passion for the topic, and it's a very helpful and informative site, I just feel like all your attention is to the information quality, but design and an effective user experience is just as important, because without the good design your message gets lost and confused.

Think, "what's the first thing my reader wants to know when they land on my site?", be specific, and make sure your that's the first thing their eye lands on when they see your page.

It's a great site informationally, but it lacks hierarchy, organization, and a good user experience to get the person the information they want, and let them know they're where they want to be as easily and efficiently as possible.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I will try to work some of the things you mentioned out. I don't want the common Nav bar across the top, but I can see what you guys mean considering my sidebar Nav. is below the fold. My intentions were to have each topic on the home page be briefly covered, but also be a link to a page that goes more into detail on that specific topic. I got a long way to go before I am happy, but your advice helps me see it through others eyes. Thanks again.

The suitcase is what a traveling house sitter would need to carry their personal belongings. It says "travel" and "traveling" directly above it, so I thought it would tie together. But, from the feedback I guess it didn't. LOL

Just keep working. My first stuff, actually a couple years of my first stuff, was a total mess.

Keep going, keep reading and learning, and keep getting better. It will happen on its own if you just keep practicing!

Agree with Chris, the first things which is getting attention is the briefcase and it is showing no relevancy with this page. And yes, user will feel confused while landing on this page. Moreover, while scrolling down, that briefcase is appearing again and again which gives the feel of getting automatically scrolled up. Moreover, above the fold area is not at all impressive. You need to work on it.

Yes I understand that the suitcase = travel but that first impression (the eyes go to the suitcase immediately) does not say enough about the site. You want to make sure your message and niche are very obvious as soon as the visitor lands on your site. How about a picture of a house maybe ?

Overall I like the way it looks. I really like the background image.

However I tend to prefer the content on the left and the sidebar on the right, opposite of your setup. Also the opt-in form is at the bottom, the hardest thing to see on the page.Thjat will decrease your opt-ins. If it were my site I would have the opt-in form at the top right and put it in the moving widget.
