Wordpress open-commenting: how to minimize spam?

hi - I'd like to create a video WP blog that allows open-commenting (no registration required). Not sure if akismet or other plugin would help in reducing comment spamming? I'd like to be able to moderate/approve comments first... thanks if any ideas!

    p.s. I ran a forum for years, eventually quit allowing new registrations, since 19/20 posts were spam/self-advertising... i'd like to get a video wp blog going with "anyone can post" but minimize spam

    Depends on how much traffic your site gets. I create sites for small businesses and find that akismet works pretty good. However I know that there are some better options out there that might work better if you get a lot of traffic.
