Hey - I haven't made any new sites in quite a long time, but I'm starting up a new project and I'm hoping for a little help.

It will be on a WordPress platform, and targeting small business owners (or those who are interested in becoming small business owners). Basically a 'news, advice and inspiration' type of site.

Do you have any recommendations for WordPress themes that would look good for this type of site? Free is ideal of course, but I can pay for a premium theme too if it is good.

Any tips would be helpful.

Michael

There are many themes which could support this type of website. You can have a look at the following list which is the best selling themes on ThemeForest. Most of these are multi-purpose and can be used for any type of website:

This is also a very nice template which is great for blogging and websites that contain lots of articles:

As for free themes, there are thousands of premium ones floating around the web:

Great question. I personally use optimize press on all my stuff. Real easy to use and you don't need to worry about any seo plugins. My post and pages rank very well with optimizepress.

I would use thesis or genesis(studio press).

If you want something a little less flexible, go on theme forest and use one of the top sellers. Maybe one of the services like elegant themes or something like that.

Must choose a mobile responsive theme as google like that. If it is possible then choose a different theme/plugin only for your mobile user. Currently google is giving priority of mobile friendly websites.

I would go with a clean theme. Something which is easy on the eye and easy for readers to digest your content.

I like Enfold theme, tons of option without coding. If you do need to tweak any code then there's a custom css section. The support are great at giving you the specific code for specific tweaks!

  • I quite like the theme Frontier, especially for someone new to wordpress. It is free and easy to customize. I also recently started using the theme Enfold on one of my sites and love it more and more every day and it is also free.
Here are just a few others I have come across that I like and are free:
    SongWriter
    Evolve
    Responsive

  • Don't forget to browse the WordPress theme repository. There are many there that would be suitable and are responsive.
