Just curious is $30000 a little over price for a website building?

It contains:
Mobile Responsive Basic Site
CMS on all pages
Customized E-Commerce
Customized Forum
Intergrated Membership login on both homepage and forum
Online Cart Enquiry
Product Catalogue
Multiple Language Site
1 Year SEO service (this is hard to measure i know)

I forgot the developer was telling me they are developing from Javascript or what. I am not a programmer so i dont know much about whether it affect the pricing or not.

So please advice if this is too pricy?

Wow! Yes they are surely quoting you higher than normal. This may include the fact that they might be well known website development experts. Still, the quote is way too much to charge.

Anyways, the first 4 configurations are pretty easy:

    Mobile Responsive Basic Site
    CMS on all pages
    Customized E-Commerce
    Customized Forum

By installing WordPress and doing simple Google searches, you can do all of this by yourself.

The tasks below need further research (if you are willing to do) or you can hire a warrior here to work on your website and get them done:

Integrated Membership login on both homepage and forum
    Online Cart Enquiry
    Product Catalogue
    Multiple Language Site
1 Year SEO service (this is hard to measure i know)

This is a massive site, e-comm, forum, membership, etc.. and once you start getting into things with the word "Customized" that's when things start going up. It's not going to be like any other site. The man hours to customize something to what you want is huge. They could make something and you want it tweaked here and there, then you want it tweak a little more after 1st revision. These are the kind of things they usually account for. Customizing a site this big is a lot of trail and error and headaches before it gets where the client wants, from my experience.

You have to take into account the SEO for a year. Some SEO services are thousands per month, so it varies based on the company. I think 30k is a reasonable quote for a site with these custom features.

It sounds a lot yes but it can cost that much and even more. This depends on the amount of time and customization. A few to think about:

    1. Functional codes - there's a lot in E-commerce, forums and admin login - if they're not simply frameworks but bottom up coded then it could even cost up to six figures. Benefit: performance on websites, security, so on. Real programming is involved not just a regular HTML/CSS/and some JavaScript guy.
    2. Creatives - all these graphics can really cost a lot if customized. The benefit is you have a "unique" branded specific to your company and business image
    3. SEO expertise can really get into "marketing", "branding experts" not just any regular SEO guy. The benefit is real result in a long run.
    4. Contents - your website must have a very good copywriter to really convey your products as well as propagate keywords that Search Engines can see. Search engines love "contents". Such as blog, forum so on.

As an example, our company back then paid $30K for a well thought of brand with experts on color and branding of companies, marketing to our target markets, copywriters and the rests are graphics. We have ton's of contents. And our ranking really did go up. The words and sentences show on our websites are well thought of so that there are consistency all through out conveying our products even the brand (the image we project).

That was back then, it's not even responsive website... we are slowly upgrading to a responsive website.

Would need more specs and details for the scope of work but judging by your description, it most likely is not out of line.

I was going to say the same thing, really hard to say if it's a good price with limited details.

But as others have mentioned, with all the customization, it might be a good deal. Of course with a lot of customization it's going to take time and knowledge.

Yes there are some things you "might" be able to do yourself, but if you have a custom theme, things like mobile won't be done automatically.

And don't forget, as for the SEO, get exact details on what it covers.

First thought is, way too much.

But then I think, I already spend over 200.000$ on my project and it is still not 100% running after almost 4 years of developing.
Building a website cost between a 100$ and unlimited amount of money.

But 95% can be built under 5000$, 99% can be built under 15.000$, so ask yourself, what makes your project so special that it has to cost 30.000$? If you are really honest to yourself, then you would probably see that your project is overpriced.

I wanted to start off with word press myself. But I just found out that wordpress.com and wordpress.org is different. And .com only has limited theme. Which I can't find one that I like while .org needs programming language. I wonder possible to get something like wp.com to wp.org? Like i just use their template and customize my contents?

Seems as you should go back to the beginning and get someone to explain to you how WordPress
        works and what it is.
There's plenty on the internet for you to peruse and get familiar with it.
The WP templates are just a guide to get you started and doubt that you will find one to your linking with out modifying it.

Think of a WP template as a shell of a house with the plumbing, electrical, mechanicals all in place.
You get to choose what the outside and inside wall are going to be made of, what color etc...
and you also get to pick the furniture, appliances etc... and that's what's going to make it to your linking.

No need to pay someone to design from scratch when the bulk of the work is already available to you.
That said, do expect someone to customize a template for your individual needs anywhere from one to many thousands depending on your requirements, at least in US prices.
        Good luck

$30k is not unheard of. Was just working on a $25k project six months ago. My first big ticket charge was $10k for a real estate website a decade ago.

    ----
Legend has it that Pablo Picasso was sketching in the park when a bold woman approached him.

“It’s you — Picasso, the great artist! Oh, you must sketch my portrait! I insist.”

So Picasso agreed to sketch her. After studying her for a moment, he used a single pencil stroke to create her portrait. He handed the women his work of art.

“It’s perfect!” she gushed. “You managed to capture my essence with one stroke, in one moment. Thank you! How much do I owe you?”

“Five thousand dollars,” the artist replied.

“B-b-but, what?” the woman sputtered. “How could you want so much money for this picture? It only took you a second to draw it!”

To which Picasso responded, “Madame, it took me my entire life.”

Well I guess its hard to judge, but well let me at least breakdown a little more detail on the task for that S$30000.

Well so far he quoted me 12k on the web design creation and stuff for 2 language. While on e-commerce part itself caused about 12k, SEO 6k for a year on 10 keywords. I believe its pretty standard for the branding site alone at 12k but the ecommerce and SEO i felt somehow a little over charge.

So I am just asking is it justifiable for that 12k on e-commerce without ERP or CRM system or any of it. It only comes with membership login, online catalog module, online cart to enquiry, and some customization.

To reach that quote I would have had a couple lengthy discussions with you as well as a lengthy detailed questionnaire form.

If you have such a questionnaire form, (make one if you don't, with all the details you can think of) and submit it to a couple other companies for a quote.
It's practically impossible for you to get an accurate response in a forum setting.
      Good luck

The SEO is not overpriced. It's normal if you want white hat, you can't expect to get a taste of heaven by trying to pay for hell.

12 k on e commerce without ERP or CRM is slightly above average even for developers in first world countries. I would say that 8 to 10k would be more reasonable for that... but if you include the different languages etc, then it's reasonable.

It all matters on their past portfolio and quality of their services, most companies charge higher if their quality is truly better. The prices you stated are reasonable if their past portfolio and results speak for themselves. The only danger is if their past work is crap then you need to be VERY WORRIED. Otherwise, it's fine

This list item pokes my eye.
Either you're using a CMS or NOT. I think you can't use a CMS on certain pages and not on the others. Even static pages are incorporated as a function in most of the modern CMS.

    Be careful with this offer.
