Hello, I know it sounds a bit stupid, but what is the way to understand the difference between commercial and not commercial use of images on the internet?

For example, if i have a website which I use to sell affiliate products or my own products but I use some images for articles without using them directly to sell the products but just to add content to the site. Would it be considered commercial usage since there there are products being sold in the website?

Thanks in advance for your help

It depends on the person providing the license so if it's not clear when you read it, you should ask whoever you get the images from. I've seen some that feel any money-making activities on the site constitutes commercial use but I've also had some people tell me that as long as I'm not selling the images, it's okay.

    When in doubt, ask.

As Tina stated, you should definitely contact the provider of the license if you're unsure.

I know some places will let you have it as many places you like online, but as soon as you decide you want to print something, they consider it 'commercial'. This is just one example I've personally come across, but I'm sure there are more.
