    Some obvious reasons are:

    - Your website looks fancy and stylish
    - It engages the website visitors so they don't leave your website quickly

    and ... that's it. In many cases it is better to avoid parallax stuff, since it can bring in a totally opposite user experience. Some people are more interested in getting the information they are looking for. They don't like playing a lot with the website.

    Some might argue that it's a distraction.

    Just happens to be the latest trendy effect to have on a webpage. Give it a year or two, and the novelty will wear off.

    cause it is really really cool, or not. Kind like back in the day when it was cool for your entire homepage to be done entirely in flash. I guess parallax isn't quite that bad. I guess it's cool sometimes.

    Stimulate users with different levels of depth and a sense of animation (more often than not we’ve heard the adjective “fun” associated with it, Encourages longer page visit time as user curiosity leads to scrolling through the entire design (including the highlighted call to actions, emphasizes professionalism and higher level of creativity of your company/organization (this can vary depending on the industry and size of the website involved)

      It may be a nice effect but you should be a bit careful with that - search engines don't scroll websites as real people so in some situations they might miss some data that should be crawled, and it might end with poor SEO results.

      I don't say it's bad to use parallax. You just need to use it properly. MOZ wrote some more about it here.

    No benefits for me. I really don't like Parallax Scrolling, though I know it's "cool" now, but prefer websites without them. And I don't like normal scrolling websites also I am old school and like to click where I want to go and be taken directly there, not scroll down for eternity (sometimes scrolling can be really long). P.S. Yes, I know it's all depends on how good/bad scrolling is designed.
