I want to make an online store( e-commerce) site soon.
I'm not a wordpress expert but I have learnt to make wordpress sites. It's very easy to manage a wordpress site and you can learn new things when neccessary.
However, some people say that e-store sites don't fit to the nature of wordpress.
When it comes to HTML sites, even if I pay a lot of money to a designer and get one, I think it will not be easy to manage it later as I know nothing about making HTML codes.

So, What do you advise me?
Which is better for online store? :smilies_confu sed::smilies_c onfused:

Wordpress without a doubt as you can do anything with it. They have a ton of plugins that can accommodate what you need. I am not big on coding myself so I totally understand and Wordpress is definitely calling for you.

    But good luck with everything

  • WordPress with WooCommerce make an excellent eCommerce platform. If you go the html/script/database way, expect major $$$$ to get a decent one built.

Why reinvent the wheel?.... WordPress is more than just a 'blog' platform, it is a well built and developed framework to build content rich, dynamic database driven websites and eCommerce solutions with plugins like WooCommerce... our FAVORITE... and others... LOL.

I have been developing in WordPress for like a decade now... and it is as fast as HTML on a properly configured server, all our sites are on our Tuned Hosting platform, which uses Apache/NginX, Memcached, OPCache and various other tweaks to improve performance, even without CDN our sites pull under 1 second loads, even from China to our Chicago Data Center.

So there is really ZERO reason to build a site from HTML and code a database driven site, when you can already do this with WP and also have all the additional options of plugins to add functions to your site...

Plus, using WordPress as your backbone/framework... you really keep your code better organized, other developers, if they are WP developers... like those at Codeable... which BTW I just got added as one of their developers, will use correct WP standards or best practices, leaving you with code that is far more organized over time than a HTML built site with multiple people coding different functions... often in PHP to do DB queries etc... all with different styles, not knowing another added some code which might be reused to save space etc...

With WP as framework, you create an environment which many are developing in now and others can walk behind another's work and pick up where they left off because of the standardized practices with WP development.

So I say don't reinvent the wheel... use WP to help with deployment speed, code organization and standards, etc... you will be so much happier down the road.

  • Magento Is the best enterprise commerce site. You should go with wordpress especially if you don't know much to get started with programming. If you know programming or willing to learn html although you should probably anyways.

@namdu I personally always prefer WordPress , as it is a better CMS than other proprietary scripts or custom made scripts.
With WordPress , you can build an complete online store with woo-commerce or wp-shop plugins & there are free as well as premium themes specific to e-commerce , this will definitely make your site stand out , if you know how to do.
Plain HTML is fine , but again you need to have a separate design person or someone to do any changes in the images & contents.
So better stick on to WordPress , spend some time learning how to make a better online store with WordPress.

I would advice you go with a hosted option which will save you so many headaches in the long run. Yes, you might have to pay a monthly fee, but heck it's worth it. When it comes to security, hacking, taking credit card data from your server, it can be a real nightmare.
I would go with either BIGCOMMERCE or SHOPIFY.
That way you'll have no hassle with self-hosting, SSL's and hack attacks.
    Good luck

You can use Magento, Prestashop CMSs for creating eCommerce store because these CMSs are made for creating eCommerce websites. But, if you want to create an eCommerce website with WordPress then you can easily do that, you just need to use a relevant WordPress eCommerce plugin like WooCommerce.

There is absolutely no issues it making any website in wordpress and you should go with it rather than hiring a designer, you can spend that money on some other things. There are many useful plugins available to make quality wordpress ecommerce websites, none more popular than "WP eCommerce". You can also choose another CMS like Prestashop OR Magento which are also great to make ecommerce website and are not very difficult to work on.

For e-commerce, wordpress is the better solution rather than html. You can use html for a simple website to save your server's space. Wordpress need much spaces.

I personaly use WordPress and WooCommerce on all online store sites I develope but that does not mean I have not recommended other platforms and developers due to clients needs.

You need to answer quite a few questions when considering what paltforms to use and you have answered one very important one and that is you have no coding experience so i say forget HTML and go for a CMS mix.

Here are some other question you should answer as well and by no means is it a definitive list but just an example.

How many Items are you selling?
How many Variantions for each item?
    How many SKU's?
What Payment Gateway will you be using?
Are you offering monthly, weekly Subscriptions?
What country are you located in?
Do you want to have coupons and discount codes?
Will you be shipping product to customers?
Do you require POS (point Of Sale)?
Will the items be virtual, digital (downloaded)?

Use WP and start, it is a lot easier and cheaper than building something from scratch and waste time and money for something you don't need. Eventually when you become rich, you can think of something else..

Go for WooCommerce. It's the e-commerce variation of Wordpress. Easy to manage and user-friendly, WooCommerce needs little customization and the range of plugins that comes with it takes care of the rest.

In case, you want to build your online store from scratch, I would suggest Magento. Comes with range of features and functionalities and perfect for your online store. Can be customized to the extreme.

If it is an average store you should go with Shopify and if it is a big ecommerce website than Magneto could be best option. However there is dedicated ecommerce plugin available online with the name "WooCommerce".
