Has anyone experimented with a "slideshow" or other type of interchangeable content window to replace a long-scrolling sales page?

Here's an example:

StartupNation - Source for Small Business Advice, Help Starting a Business, Entrepreneur Forum

I love this feature. On this site they're using it more like an advertising billboard but I think it could work great for content. I think it has advantages over a conventional video or flash movie because it's user controlled.

My concept is to use a similar "slideshow" to present my product and offer in a sequence of slides. I think this is done with flash but it loads and operates fast. To me, it's a much better format than a page that scrolls forever.

I know the usual response... test it! I'm going to do that and I'll post the results here.

In the meantime, has anybody else tried this type of thing for a sales page? What were the results?

Finally, is there anybody you can recommend for writing content for this style of presentation? It's still copywriting but I think it would need to be modified for this format.

Well, that site is mostly javascript. Easy enough to work with if you know what you're doing or what you're looking for. I have used something similar, but it was flash. I used it as a portfolio to show off the individual projects of websites I've created. I no longer have this, as that site has gone the way of "Old Yeller", lol.

Since it's javascript, it can be SEO'd a LOT easier than if it was flash. It's also a LOT easier to work with than flash... from a coder's point of view, that is.

I would recommend it because it's very eye-catching and would be the very first thing that people go to, especially if it's that large. However, the only disadvantage I can think of, is that some people are annoyed by these kind of things and either avoid that section, or just don't visit the site at all.

That is a nice looking site - and as Waloosh says - javascript is way easier for search engines than flash - and easier to code, debug and modify (IMHO!). Just don't go overboard with animations - that can be very off-putting to your visitors.

Yes, I think it can be effective. But I've modified my approach. I don't think you can put a complete sales pitch into this format. I plan to use it for grabbing attention and showing my main USPs and benefits.

That way I can streamline the sales page that follows. I'll use flash (because I don't know javascript) but there will still be plenty of content on the page for SEO.
