301 Redirect
I own the old domain and it is registered under my company with Godaddy. But the site is currently hosted by the company that the former owner used. Now I need to decide my next steps so I do not lose all my SEO.
Initially I will just shut down the registration on the old website and direct them to my new one but keep the site live. My question is, if I have 301 redirects used to point to my new website does the actual site need to remain up. I get the feeling the current host will give me a hassle trying to move so I want to take that out of their hands. Also, can I have the old domain show in the web browser on the redirect or does it not matter. This part is beyond my pay grade so any recommendations or insight would be appreciated.
