How can I build a client's website on my own website (wordpress)?

Hey I'm getting into building websites for people I know, and I'm wondering how I'm able to build a separate website on my website..

For example:

www.mywebsite.com/yourwebsite

I build off wordpress, so I'm just wondering what's the easiest/best way?

Any help or link to an article that explains it would be great. I don't think I'm phrasing the question properly so that's why I'm getting low relevant search results.

You can do it with subdomains. You'll have a seperate subfolder in your public_html folder in FTP. Upload Wordpress files in there and do the same as you did with the main domain. Should work.

You could also do it be enabling Wordpress Multisite/Network. Take a look at this resource and decide which way makes more sense for you.

Thanks for all the advise guys! I looked both up and ended up doing the multisite as domain.com/newsite.. It's working out (requires a bit of work), however, when I look at my site(s) through an ftp, I don't know where everything is installed. It looks like it just piggybacks off my main site's wordpress install. I tried putting a folder and pasting the wordpress contents in it but they seem to be separate.

All in all I'm gonna work on the site then revisit this later. I'll probably have to go with subdomains like the first post suggested.

why not create a subdomain on your server for each client site instead?

    Something like:

    nameofclientsite.mysite.com

That would be a much simpler method of handling the creation of separate sites on your server (without having to run into issues with editing the site URL).

As for the moving of the development site... if the present live site is a WordPress site, you could use our Snapshot plugin to first make a backup of that:
