Correct Way To Serve A 2 Language Site?

In Wordpress...I want to create a website that can promote a business in both english and spanish. The spanish version is to be promoted in Mexico.

Should I just create a subdomain and host the spanish site there with no connection to the english site? Two different installations of wordpress.

Such as

mywebsite,com for english

and

mx.mywebsite,com for spanish

How else is this being done? Is there a browser language detector or ip detector in order to serve the right language? I'm sure there's a plugin, right?

Appreciate your help on this!

    Hi,

I have a site that I promote in English here in America. I then promote it in Germany and Russia.

The ONLY way to do it right is to get your hosting and URL in Mexico with the correct extension.

Then, do not let a language pack translate it. Hire a translator to rewrite it. The software's have come a long way but they still stink. It will have locals scratching their heads.

If you want to rank in Mexico you have to be in Mexico. Or at least your site and URL do.

      Patrick, thanks for replying.

So I should buy my domain name but with the country extension, ok that makes sense.

Why should I buy hosting there, when my host (bluehost) allows me to register any domain with any extension? Is that what you meant? Are you saying, I need to specifically search a hosting provider with servers in that specific country?

      Thanks again

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I've done it both ways and the way you rank is to have the hosting in that country as well. I asked a hosting provider who had nothing to gain from it as I was not going to buy his services tell me that; The search engines know where you're hosted. He said "what, you think they can't read an IP address?".

I got my hosting in each country and ranked with far less SEO.

Now, if you're going with paid traffic then it won't matter.

The other thing I found is; some SEO "ahem" experts will tell you that it doesn't matter where your backlinks come from I.E. what country. Well, I've got news for them. Relevant backlinks from the host (relevant) country are what will really rank your site. I've done it both ways on multiple pages.

I'm only sharing what's worked and my experiences. I'm no expert. But, this is what has got me ranked.
