Consolidating Websites
1. The new site is on Godaddy but I may move it to a faster host but that is for a different day. Both domains are through Godaddy but the old one is hosted somewhere else. I did a test forward on entire domain (301) but if you enter a specific page it forwards to the new domain but with a 404 error. So I assume the 301 redirect only works clean if it is domain to domain. Any individual page will trigger a 404 error.
2. If #1 is true how can I redirect specific pages to the similar page on the new website? Someone said via htaccess but wouldn't I need to set up hosting on the old site in order to do that? Keeping it at the current vendor is not an option.
So in a nutshell I would like to redirect specific pages to specific pages but also have a global redirect and not generate a 404 error. I would also like to not need to pay for hosting just to achieve this if possible. If done this way I will not lose any SEO that was built up correct?
