Magento is not the most excellent Ecommerce platform.

There is nothing like "The Most Excellent", since all that depends upon the business requirements.

I depends on your business requirements. It may be Magento or WooCommerce or Shopify.

Magento has lot of options, themes and plugins and used by many large websites but there is no criteria to declare it as "the Most Excellent Ecommerce Platform"

We should not forget that all e-commerce platforms walk in with their own specific advantages and limitations. Hence it really is very important for owners to have a clear expectations setting along with priorities while choosing the appropriate platform for their online store – that meets their business needs.
So you are the one who should be deciding as to which one will benefit the most to your business needs in a longer run and fetch you optimum Return on Investment. Magento, however, is a preferred platform – irrespective of small or large enterprises.

  • Magento is a good platform but not the best IMHO. I think WooCommerce is better simply because it is so hugely extensible and easy to use.

Never tried magento, but I rather go with WooCommerce, aside from free, there are hundreds of developers customizing and adding new extensions to fit your eCommcerce needs.

Unless you have a large webshop and much server space, I would advise not to use Magento. It's a very good platform, but very heavy and extensive, for most simpler and more efficient solution will be much better!

Woocommerce is great since it's free, easy to use and there is a vast amount of resources available. A little less known is Prestashop, which is also completely free and IMO even more complete and thought through than Woocommerce, So I would definitely recommend to also take Prestashop into consideration.

    Best Regards,
    Lex

never tried magento. choosing a ecommerce solution depends on your requirements. if your need get set with your solution provider it would be excellent. Even i heard magento is good in cms. i've tried multivendor clone scripts which matches to my requirement.

Magento, Woocommerce, shopify, opencart. --- We cannot really name one of those platforms as "the best" because it always depends on the user.

Magento is better for the bigger stores or stores with detailed/custom information for their products if you have a programmer on staff or if you are ready to learn how to do everything the "magento way". But depending on the store size, experience level and what you're trying to sell I have to agree with Woocommerce being the best option.

Magento is obviously the most complete e-commerce framework today, with greatly propelled elements of virtual store, exceptional, extremely protected, precise technology, user-friendly, mobile friendly and Search engine friendly, which encourages indexing in web search tools like Google.

Magento is a good ecommerce platform but it solely depend on your requirement or which store you want to open. There are other platforms available with lots of features which can help you open up a store. My suggestion would be analyze a platform according to your need and then choose the platform,

I read an article about e-commerce platform market in 2015. This e-commerce annual report shows that Magento is the most popular e-commerce platform with largest active stores, approximately 30% of market share. It is suitable when economic potential is rising and many large businesses are prioritizing professional platforms.

I don't know why anyone would want to. WooCommerce is infinitely easier to build and manage and has many extensions for ecommerce. Joomla, even without ecommerce has a high learning curve and not nearly the extensions for ecommerce that others have. I tried Joomla out long ago and dumped it after I learned how to build sites with it. It was just too labor intensive and getting people to buy the sites after I built them was difficult, as not that many buyers knew how to use Joomla.

The thing about Magento is they are comprehensive to run a big store with various attributes and logistics demand.

If you are using Magento, at least hire a web admin to manage the site. The learning curve is pretty challenging but once you are familiar with the whole modules and process, you will have a powerful ecommerce

While it does depend on the user, I would recommend Opencart for several reasons:

    1) Open Source (no licensing fees)
    2) No limits to the amount of products, categories and pages you can have.
    3) Fully customizable if you need something that the software doesn't already have.
    4) Self hosted so you can use any hosting company (you're not locked into a monthly fee that adds up more than most realize over time)
    5) Ships with every major payment and shipping gateway, and then some.
    6) Works on Linux and Windows servers.

I also want to point out that while Wordpress is great for many things, it's also a huge target for hackers and I personally wouldn't want to rely on them and WooCommerce for my online store. There are many other options out there that are more secure.

Also, I'm personally not a fan of the hosted solutions because if you get a company that you're unhappy with, you can't just pick up the store and move it to another hosting provider. It's proprietary and you would have to start all over with a different software. The software itself might be great but the servers and support for them could be garbage.

I think Magento is very well known and popular because they have a large advertising and marketing budget to get the word out. It doesn't always mean it's the best though. I would also bet that most are using the paid version because the free version is loaded with bugs and more difficult to use.

My 2 cents but I would suggest downloading a copy of Opencart and installing it to test it out.

The best eCommerce platforms are WebSphere, Hybris, Demandware and Amazon.com, why, because they automate everything so they need fewer employees and therefore can generate $1million revenue per employee per year. Magento CE is way down at $200k and WooCommerce is sub-$100k (yes you can work 100hrs/wk and generate $200k but people don't value time which is stupid).

So for most WooCommerce & Shopify are fine but it's your time to make it a success, Magento is 2x as efficient and Amazon.com is 10x more efficient than WooCommerce. Get to use the Amazon efficiency, and it's just not normal, the system autoloads and syncs 100,000s of products calculating in realtime worldwide end customer prices. From zero to a 1million product website in 1mth which ranks up with companies like Selfridges and Asos but costs the same as a new Mercedes, and not the cheap ones, and even then you only get to lease the technology. A lot cheaper than the enterprise tools though.

But that's not enough, so they're talking about building a custom platform which goes up to $2million revenue per employee per year, that's 2x Google! The best are in the $700k-1mil range, don't actually know of any $2mil platforms. Ay caramba!

So it's how much money you want to make with your time, but the more you want to make with lower effort the more the upfront cost, so everyone goes WooCommerce or Shopify and those with a run before they can walk approach, Magento! So everyone goes, who cares about WebSphere or Hybris, except these are the companies you are competing against and they have so much automation they can reduce prices to nothing, create overnight flash sales to put you out of business, and launch new suppliers in 1hr. Then 3-5yrs down the line everyone wonders why they put in 100hrs per week and don't make $100,000s per year in profits!

The answer to that is simple, with WooCommerce you have a realistic maximum of 100hrs of work time per week, with Magento you can do the same in 50hrs/wk, and with an Amazon platform do the same in 10hrs! To rank a page you need to write 2,000 word articles which take 1day and they another 1-2days to create backlinks, with low end platforms to load a new supplier will take you days not minutes. What's the best platform, the one that makes you the most revenue with the least amount of effort and the least upfront cost for your type of business. The downside to automation is that it's impersonal, the upside to lower employee revenue is that you have customer interaction, some prefer this and therefore WooCommerce or Shopify is the best platform for them, for most though they are money focused and the more automation the better.
