Am I paying too much for hosting?

Hi - I think that I am paying too much for hosting.

I currently use 2 hosting companies - Host Gator and one in Australia. I have a number of sites and I use an affiliate link with HG but host each site separately. The sites are for different niches.

Is this efficient please? ...let alone cost effective.

I am not a tecchie. I had considered setting up one new site (like a hosting review site) with the ability to host many "customers" (ie me) and have affiliate links. I guess this may be in "sub-domains" arena that I hear so much about.

I'm in the process of hiring another virtual assistant as I am poor with the IT side of my business.

Am I paranoid and/or am I over-complicating things please? Please feel free to be brutally blunt with me as I feel that I am a right plonker when it comes to IT! Cheers, Mark

It can be an advantage to not have all your domains on one server. It looks better to Google if your sites are cross-linked; that they see different IP addresses.

Having all of your sites with one hosting company is like having all of your eggs in one basket. I have encounterd some bad companies in the last 12 months and moved my sites about 4 times.

Now I have found a hosting company that is giving me excellent support and I recently upgraded to a reseller account (for a good rate); mainly to give my websites separate accounts. I might consider hosting for other people now that I have a reliable service and support. I would never do this unless I could rely on the hosting company.

I managed to get an unlimited lifetime hosting bought off Ebay for 99p two years ago and up to now it has proved reliable. I have backed up some of my websites on one domain (with this now free service) by adding my website files to individual folders just like addon domains. Surprisingly, Google has picked these up and indexed them without me actively submitting my domain.

If ever the server goes down with the main hosting company (as it did), I could easily direct anyone to my backup sites. It also proved useful when hosting images for my Ebay auctions to have a back up of the pictures on another server so that if the main server went down, I just needed to change the links to point to the backup server.

Nothing wrong with Hostgator. As a matter of fact, if you're ever going to go the Resell route, they're one of the better ones.

I'm not sure why you have a second one, unless, as the one suggested, you wanted to do backlinks from more than one host.

I use Bluehost, and I'm allowed as many domains as I want, and they have unlimited storage and unlimited transfer.

But, they're subdomains, and they SQLs are limited, so it's not good for a potential resell hosting.

    Hope that helps!

    Make it a great day!

    Brother Paul

you're not paying too much for hosting, as long as the sites can provide you enough cash to cover up it's own cost.

I use 2 host, HG and Dreamhost, with plenty of sites and I still think it's cost effective to me.

    cheers,

Get a reseller account at HostGator and you can host as many sites on the server as you want to without your monthly price changing. That's what I have.

I think the price should be the same with Host4Profit or there about. Currently Host4Profit is one of the hosting companies that pay you back. Refer 3 and hosting is FREE. If you think you hosting fee is too much then you might want to consider Host4Profit.

    Another Warrior here for Hostgator.

Depending on what it is you do, you will find them very reasonable if you get a reseller account. I have seen them add additional services and options without expecting additional money several times since I first signed on with them a little over two years ago.

If you are pursuing brick and mortar clients via Offline Gold marketing methods, you will be especially interested in the fact that you can set up your own autoresponder script on your own domain if you want with Hostgator. They have limits, so this is not something meant to take the place of an autoresponder company such as Aweber or others, but they do allow a maximum of 500 emails per hour per domain. Another thing that will be of interest to those pursuing the Offline Gold marketing methods is, Hostgator has a ton of websites already designed available to you for nothing more than the download effort. Taking a recent look at these designs, they are quite well designed and can be a great starting point for your clients. The only catch or gotcha (if you can consider this a gotcha) is, if you use their templates / designs, they must reside on a Hostgator server or you are violating the copyright. But there is no additional charge beyond your hosting payment in order to access these templates.

If you already have Hostgator and are wondering what the heck I am talking about, login to your CPanel and then scroll down to the bottom of the page. Somewhere near the "fantastico" button is a button to click to preview their site designs. I think it says "templates" but I am not logged in right now so I am not sure. But I know it's there, near the "fantastico" button. I was stunned at how many templates were in there.

Edit: And no, I don't work for Hostgator! Just a satisfied customer.

If I were you, you must stick to only one web hosting site. And I think Hostgator is the best choice for your site. Try to shift your other site to HostGator, which is much reliable and fast customer support.

    Cheers!
