VPS and Multiple Domains

I am considering moving from shared hosting to a VPS. I am not a big tech person but have enough background to get by. So I will be using a managed VPS. My question is, I would like to confirm I will be able to host multiple websites on a VPS. Also, currently I use Cpanel and wanted to know if each domain would have its own cpanel access or would each domain be accessed from one cpanel account? Just getting some basic background before I make any changes.

    Hi mich800,

The short answer is, yes - you can host multiple websites on a VPS.

HOWEVER, there are a couple factors to take into consideration. How heavy are your websites? E.g. Do you run a lot of scripts that are memory intensive, do you have a lot of images/videos that will be streaming from the server, etc.. Another factor is, how much traffic are your sites going to be receiving? If you're getting thousands of visits a day for each website, chances are your websites will be extremely SLOW.

To touch on your cPanel question - No, you will not have a separate cPanel for each of your websites. HOWEVER, I understand the need to give access to a particular website, for example if you needed a developer to do some work for you.

The best way to circumvent this without giving the root domain details of your hosting provider, and allow access to specific domains is as follows:
-Download the lastest phpmyadmin, and install it on your server
-Once installed, you can then setup a user in your cPanel for a specific database
-The next step would be to create an FTP account for that SPECIFIC Directory
    - This is as much access as any developer should ever need, unless server config is necessary.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,
    Will

Technically, it's possible, but in practice it may have many little and sometimes confusing problems. Also, if you have any issue with your hosting you will lose both sites at the same time. My recommendation it to have two hosts, one for each webpage.

I disagree with the precedent post

i got a vps running 30 websites or so..

    1. Get a good vps like the knownhost ones
    2. Get a good backup and restore plugin
    3. Monitor closely your stats

Thank you for everyones input. The second site is my sons blog for his bike racing. So no big traffic but if I can get rid of that hosting cost and roll it into mine that would be great.

I was just looking at the logistics particularly about the cpanel. I use that instead of ftp because it is easier for me for what I typically need to do.

Sounds like this is a win win as my hosting will be a sunk cost so I will be saving money in the end.

There are few option available in the market.

    VPS
    CLOUD
    CLOUD VPS

Check each of those options. Later two are not same for some service providers.

Some providers block virtual memory paging and that brings entire load on the RAM. Background services start consuming RAM space as there is no memory paging available. This will often bring down website in the middle of day.

Some VPS server providers hide this from customers and you come to know at a later stage. Bad practices...
