I personally think the best practice is to include a video explaining the business and what makes that business unique. In addition to contact information, products and testimonials of top returning customers. Always include an opt in box, maybe give away a pdf to collect emails you can later market to.

You can hire someone on Fiverr who looks great (perhaps a young girl with a pretty face) to make a video explaining the features of your beauty site.

A video could be a nice idea, but my first idea was to highlight a product or a free gift.

The free gift can be more effective since you can start building an email list where you can promote not only your products but also other products to make commissions.

Maybe you can add a blog, your niche can be pretty interesting to read for a lot of people.

Your homepage could be a highlight for a free gift as a main banner, the last blog post, some comments from readers or buyer's feedback and then the footer with helpful information and quick links to contact you, share and a little description about your site or yourself.

Try adding a video to your home page. Gets a lot more attention than just pictures!

Some WordPress theme provide custom homepage. You may see many websites on the web using a custom homepage for their WordPress.

I think the video idea is a good idea because it puts a face to the content. Helps to build trust like you're dealing with a real person. Create a video script and hire a pretty young girl from Fiverr, like TrafficFlow suggested, to make the video for you.

Have her briefly talk about the website, what it's about, bla bla bla, and end with her talking about the free gift and how your visitors can get it. "We want to thank you for visiting our website. As a thank you, we've put together this free gift that we think you're going to love."

And then tell them where to get it (where to sign up). Although if you do your signup box right it should be obvious. Add a picture of the free gift to the sign up box so they can see what they're getting. It seems like most people don't do that and their sign up boxes end up looks so boring.

Add your sign up box to the side of all your post pages and add a horizontal sign up form at the bottom of your article posts. That one can entice them farther with some bullet point benefits - the benefits of signing up.

I suggest you to hold a web design contest so yo can have tons of people giving you alot of variations to choose from. You can post a contest in www.freelance.com/contest

I would use a lead magnet to capture the visitors emails. You can use a video or not, but I would personally recommend you offer something useful in exchange for your visitors emails.

As a web developer and graphic designer I would try to expose the main product and some opinions below. To be honest i am not a big fan of videos on websites because it takes lot of data and some of your mobile users may be angry.
If you're not going to have lot of products I would also use some live chat feature on website. Believe me that people really appreciate good and fast contact with sellers. I am using mostly livechatinc.com because you can customize it however you want with CSS and it's pretty easy to install it on your website - especially on website with wordpress.

I think that you should not forget the necessary design elements to the website. i.e. you should have a clear logo, a nice tagline, good clear links to other pages and products and give good clear RELEVANT information about the pros and cons of the products and services you are trying to promote/sell. All these aspects will help get your website the viewers you want. This will also help with your google ranking as you will give good valuable information in a meaningful way. Content is king! design is a very personal thing so try to begin with a standard looking website and build from there. These are some useful points which you should add on your homepage. First of all there should be a Logo of your brand. A Main menu should be there with the product list or category list.
