Hi fellow warriors,

I've been struggling in the last 2 months to get traction for my web startup (Advicey) and I wanted to get some advice from you guys about what I'm doing wrong. The site is completely functional so the product development is done, I'm stuck on the marketing part.

NOTE: The main reason I create this thread is because I want your feedback, not to advertise my product

What's Advicey is about: Advicey is an online marketplace for people to find an expert in a specific niche and talk to him in a 1-1 coaching call and get advice.

So you can find a fitness expert and talk to him on Skype for 40$/hour. Similar model to fiverr. We take 10% commission.

Here's the website: Advicey

Some questions to keep in mind:
1. What's your first impression when using the site? (Most of the gigs are real)
2. What's some things I need to improve on?
3. What isn't clear?
4. Why would you or wouldn't you advertise your expertise on advicey?

Please feel free to post your thoughts, like I said, I'm struggling getting experts to offer thier services on the site, and your advice would be very helpful!

David

When I first come to the site it looks legit.

To get traction for a website like this is hard... you need lots of press, and a big name coaches to come on board. Once you have the big names start coming, then everyone else will start following.

Main issue I have is, this website is focusing on the 'gigs' where we the consumer want to know about the coaches and their story. There should be a page about the author that is very thorough about their details. The way I see it, why would I paid $55 for fitness coaching when I know nothing about the coach, and has no details about himself.... ( could be a 500lbs man giving the advice lol)

Hopefully that gives you some insights

    Thanks,
    Brad

    1. What's your first impression when using the site? (Most of the gigs are real)

I don't like the design at Featured Gigs part. I feel the photos are used from other sites and the pictures are not that interesting in order for me to sign up for coaching.

    2. What's some things I need to improve on?

You need to improve into your design as well as the coaching fee. Some are a little too high for me when compared to getting class online at cheaper price.

    3. What isn't clear?

Some pictures are blurry. You didn't place testimonials from previous customers.

    4. Why would you or wouldn't you advertise your expertise on advicey?

Nope, a little too expensive for me.

Hi David, I'm hoping this might be of use for you.

    1. What's your first impression when using the site?

Hierarchy of information I suppose. I wasn't entirely sure what my first actions would be and if I was to stumble on this site, how it would work and the core benefits of using your site.

    2. What's some things I need to improve on?
Removing the unnecessary content off the landing page and possibly curating your brand consistently (colours, quality imagery, typography). Focus on your core strengths and products rather than trying to suit everyone who would need advice.

    3. What isn't clear?
Next steps, product benefits and what makes you're platform different from just being able to google the solutions.

    4. Why would you or wouldn't you advertise your expertise on advicey?

At the moment it doesn't seem like a legitimate platform for experts, no social proofing or benefits to advertising my craft.

Great start though! Remember, Landing pages are exciting and get people to feel comfortable and knowledgable enough to want to click that 'Join' CTA.

Some have already touched on this:

    1. I think you need a 'New to advicey? Start here' for people to find out exactly what it is your provide. It is quite self explanatory but you don't want to lose potential customers because they aren't sure what your are offering.

    2. Should definitely give some details on the coaches so potential buyers can make the right choice (not based only on price)

    3. I think its a good idea but you need to just get the website out there. That will help solve the issue of not having enough coaches.

    Good luck

One thing that stood out to me is the trust factor (or lack thereof) since you will be processing and handling the payments and I have to wait up to 30 days to see my money.

I don't know who you are, your contact information, etc. I think this would be important especially where you are holding money for others.

  • Your sites looks very neat and clean. Congratulation

Here are my point of views:

    1. I am highly impressed with the concept that you are selling through your website. It is an expert one-on-one advice service.
    2. Website is full of knowledge, experts have written very good sample question for particular topic. I hope visitor will get proper assistance what they are looking for under each section
    3. Knowledge is not free here. Visitor must have to pay for it.
    4. Every expert has clarified such type of service he can give. There are numbers of questions written below their portfolio.
    5. Show some conversation between expert and visitor while answering his question.
    6. I will not advertise my expertise on advicey because it have no targeted visitor, or it is not limited to a particular category. Example: If I am a doctor I will show my expertise here because it is not limited to medical only.
    7. I will show my expertise on advicey if it has good numbers of visitor. If I am expert in different field, I will have more option to use advicey traffic.
    8. You need to introduce your experts under "Meet your Experts" tab which include their qualification, knowledge, experience, location etc. no body will pay without knowing about the experts
    9. As soon as you will have more traffic and experts will certainly offer their services on the advicey.
    10. You may put feedback of your existing clients in testimonial section.
    11. You can add Astrology section where you can invite Astrology Experts to offer their service.
    12. Initially, you should reduce the cost of advice it is too much expensive once you will have more experts on many profile you can raise it.

We all know this kind of business takes time. Good luck
