Long story short; UX design deals with overall experience with a product or service while UI design deals with the specific user interface. UI can be part of UX, but not all products necessarily have a UI.

In your mind, are these roles clearly distinct? Obviously, some degree of overlap will happen. What trends have you seen?

    Hi
I think UI design focus on the visual elements of the product ( color, layout, style ...) Otherwise the UX refers to how the user interact with the product.

For example, In the web design domain, UI design focus on how elements are shown on the page, static or dynamic . Once you have a contact form or a search field with filter or sign up process through steps, adding product in cart, payment, now you are talking about the user experience.

This is my personal definition of the 2 concept. Hope that gives you an idea so you can do more researches.

Looking forward to see more replies here !

    Cheers

The key for me is that UX should inform UI, rather than the other way round. In other words, it makes much more sense to come from a perspective of "I've discovered that users respond well to this type of feature, therefore I will design it in accordance with that."

  • UI: UI is about the graphic and visual look of a platform. A UI designer brings to life the work of a UX designer by creating pixel perfect mockups that in the end, is what the user sees.

UX: UX is about the strategy that goes into the design, before the UI is done. User experience designers spend their time defining user types, creating + testing wireframes, and organizing sitemaps and the information architecture of a platform.

User interface means the actual buttons text and pixels that appear on the screen. So the UI designer is responsible for how the website or web application appears in the interface.

UX stands for user experience This higher-level discipline than UI, because it includes not just the interface, but also all the systems and interactions that support it. For example, the UX designer should care about what happens when a frustrated user calls the help desk as well as how pixels appear on the screen.

While User Experience is a conglomeration of tasks focused on optimization of a product for effective and enjoyable use; User Interface Design is its compliment, the look and feel, the presentation and interactivity of a product. But like UX, it is easily and often confused by the industries that employ UI Designers

UX is the acronym for "User Experience." UX design brings a decidedly left brain component to a digital experience and may encompass the design of apps or other software products as well as websites. While a good web designer is focused on the end user's experience, the UX designer takes it to the next level and applies a specific methodology around the user.
UI stands for User Interface, which comes out of the software world in which the User Interface of a product IS the product. UI designers traditionally are experts in designing machine to human interfaces. The adage "Form Follows Function" is the operating principal in UI Design.
