Seeking advice about how to proceed

I know practically nothing about setting up a website, online stores, social
media and internet marketing. After floundering around for quite a while, making practice websites on the likes of Weebly, etc., I realize that I can either waste my time making a bad and perhaps even horrible website and online store, or hire someone to help me. I have always heard that a bad website is worse than no website at all, and since that’s all I’d probably come up with, I’ve held off getting one.

What I want to ask you guys is what should I expect to pay someone to do this for me, and how best to find that someone. Currently, I have nowhere near enough money to start this process. But I do think that I will get a commission soon, and need to plan ahead.

Optimally, I want to try to promote my goods on social media and would need help with that also. I have enough material written to either publish an ebook or keep a blog going for about 6 months, on a subject related to what I do but not self-promoting. I also know a decent videographer if I decide to post informational videos on YouTube.

I am on Pinterest, Facebook and LinkedIn; but I’m not very active on any of them. I have never figured out how to promote myself on them; hence the needed help. I guess I’m not very social.
I’ve been reading several of the articles here on Internet Marketing, but honestly, it’s just not my forte. I can either spend a lot of time trying to do some of this stuff myself or make jewelry, and I think my time would be better spent doing the later.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. I thought of local colleges and the Art Institute might be a resource of folks to do this sort of work, but want to hear what all of you have to say. If this is addressed as a former topic, I apologize.

    Hey Debbie,

Don't be discouraged by novice web design. Ugly sells. Take a look at *** LINGsCARS ***. Heck even Craigslist is an ugly website.

Content will always reign over design. Take a look at the top websites out there and most have very simple designs. Just make sure your site is easy to navigate. Design the layout for your audience, not for you.

I don't agree with your bro,
It doesn't mean that every ugly website can sell like the site link that you shares. People always look design first, if you website has a professional look, visitors will know about your esthetic sense and your mind and will stay to read your content. If your site is too ugly, anyone would definitely think its a scam site.
So my friend, you need to represent well what you offer. My suggestion.. you need to create your website first with a professional design. Then think about the social marketing.

Thanks to all of you for your replies.

What would a reasonable price be to pay someone to set up a website and store that would have approximately 5 or 6 pages with 50-75 items for sale? I want something that I can edit easily; removing sold items and uploading new ones.

And, is there a place to find these people who would be interested in such a small job or would I be better off trying to do it myself?

I want to reiterate, I have no idea what I'm doing, but I suppose I can learn.
