Wordpress help

Hello all, i was hoping someone could help me with 2 things regarding wordpress.

1) I'm having trouble removing the categories and archives sections on this blog: Coactive Life - Life Coach Services

2) With the same template as above, there is supposed to be an animated slideshow on the main page, as seen here: StudioPress Theme Demo
but i'm having a really hard time trying to figure out how to make this work. Is there a plugin that might be missing for this?

    What I usually do is check the admin screen in WP and see if there is a checkbox for the sidebar modules that I don't want to appear, or if there is a drag and drop interface to arrange the sidebar the way you want. For your other question about the animated slideshow, check the readme file or other instructions that came with the WP theme. There should be a bit of Javascript or something else that is required to make this animation work.

    • I'm not familiar with the theme, but I've done my share of working with and modifying themes in the past.

      1) You may have to edit the theme, or place a widget in that slot. Typically, themes will have some default information that they will display in a widget-ready sidebar when there is no widget placed in that slot. You may want to experiment with placing widgets in some sidebar slots to see which slots these are. Alternatively, you could dig around in the sidebar.php file for the theme and comment out or remove teh stuff you don't want displayed.

      2) Usually this is done through page templates or custom fields. Since each theme tends to implement these kinds of things differently, you should read the documentation for the theme for more details.

    Have you put any widgets into the sidebar bottom left or right yet from the Appearance/Widget area?

    As for the Featured Content Gallery, if you can see the Featured Content Gallery Options page in your sidebar then you have the right thing there and there are two things which need to be done, you need to place a piece of code into the theme files where you want the gallery to appear (but it is normally already placed there for you by Studio Press in most of their themes). And the other thing is that the FCG won't work until you have a minimum of two posts or pages.

    • This is the piece of code you need to look for in your theme files:

      HTML Code:
      <?php include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?>
      Near the top of the home.php file, see if it is already there or not.
