Forum Software Recommendations?

I am supervising a website that needs forum software. It is a site with a free section and a section that is subscription. I'm looking to install SW that can handle both types of visitors.

It would seem to be a farily straightforward problem with a simple solution. What are the considerations or problems I'm missing?

Any suggestions for such SW packages?

Thank you all.

Paul

My initial questions to you are and I'm assuming the subscription are is a "for fee" area, not a simple upgrade to another free area of the forum. I would ask these questions intially
    • does it need to integrate with the current site (coding, etc)?
    • is it more cost efficient to use a free forum , but buy a membership script to plug into the forum such as amember.com
    • what features does each area need to have, such as downloads, posting images, video and so on.
    just some quick thoughts

This is a cooking site that has 2 areas. One is free and the other is a fee-based service. I would like for all visitors (paid and unpaid) to have access to the free zone. The paid visitors will also have a zone they would have access to that will be unavailable to the unpaid visitors.

I'm not sure what that involves. The paid portion would need to have access to the paid member database to allow access to that zone of the forum.

I don't know the answer to that because I don't know what is involved. Perhaps that would be a solution.

Since it is a cooking site all those things would be desireable in each area and they would improve the useability of the forum and therefore the popularity.

The server has very large capacity and is connected to a T1.

      Thank you for your ideas.
