Whats the motivation to move to Gimp. Aside from the cost, are there any legit reasons?

    if you already have photoshop why move to gimp? It's usually the other way around, people can't afford photoshop so they use gimp instead. If you're going to be doing highly technical graphic design it's better to invest in photoshop but if you are just doing basic photo editing or something similar you can easily get by with gimp

    GIMPS is an open-source raster graphics editor. It is used for editing images, free-form drawing, resizing, cropping, photo-montages, converting between different image formats, and more specialized tasks.GIMPS has advanced features and more than 100 filters. It is also compatible with different operating systems.but since GIMPS offer too many features sometimes it crash.
    Photoshop has image editing features for raster (pixel-based) images as well as vector graphics. Photoshop is considered expensive then other software and that is why users use coral draw, GIMPS and illustrator to perform the desired designing tasks.

    Gimp and Photoshop are for images not Web Design.

    ...well, you could do mock ups but nobody is slicing webpages in 2017.

    In terms of hardware requirements, such as RAM requirements and disk space consumed, GIMP needs fewer hardware resources than Photoshop.

    Also, GIMP is cross-platform. You can use GIMP on Mac, Windows, as well as Linux. Photoshop, as of now, is not available for Linux users.

    The main difference between GIMP and Photoshop is that it would cost a lot of money to purchase while GIMP is open source software and anyone can use it. Most of graphic designers use photoshop due to ease of use whereas GIMP can be used for every operating system.
