Why some WordPress sites turned static (.html) any good reason for this mystery?

Hello webmasters,

I am up with another question today. I was curious to know why many good WordPress blogs turned them into static (.html) site?

I would love to hear some good reasons for this transformation or is it some tricky optimization?

  • It's most likely a plugin you're using. Are you using W3 Total cache. As this will do this if you've selected this within the options. Also, many other plugins will do this too.

    As when I don't use these plugins I've never had anything as you mentioned.

    There are many blogs not using WordPress and there are many reasons for that.

    HTML is light, fast-loading, much more secure than WP, doesn't need a database that is susceptible to problems, doesn't need constant updating, doesn't crash plugins or themes with updates, doesn't need a heap of plugins so less conflict problems and HTML sites run with fewer resources.

    I use WordPress if clients need/want a CMS to manage their own content but 99% of my clients have static HTML sites.

    HTML sites are easier to backup and transfer and much easier to keep a local copy of on your computer if you don't know how to run WP on localhost on your computer.

    I have a few of my own sites that are WP sites, but only because I need to know how to use WP. I prefer the stability and control that HTML gives me, but I can see the benefits for people who can't code or build in HTML/CSS.

    In terms of speed, there are conflicting reports about the speed of HTML versus WP sites. Generally HMTL will be much faster, but it depends a lot on the work that has to be done to make WP sites faster. Sometimes that work can be extensive and complex. It can really mess with Google ranking if you can't optimize your website.

    Speed problems with WP are often do to with the image sizes. Many people using WP don't know about optimizing/compressing images to reduce file size. This is really bad for people paying for data on mobile devices.

    So, there are pros and cons with both WP and HTML, but it depends on the end use and user.

      Thanks for such extra information about static pages. And as you asked for examples here are two WP blogs with static pages "blogger tips tricks (dot) com" and "shout me loud (dot) com".

  • Apart from the need for constant updates I often wondered why people still use HTML sites. So cumbersome to keep adding to and adding the extra linking etc. I now see that if you don't need to keep updating a site, HTML would be better. Less chance of getting hacked too I would think. So thanks everyone for your info.

    • Yes, true! If you don't need the complexity of a CMS why have it?

      I do my clients updates and earn revenue in the process. I have found that clients are never geeks and prefer to manage their business rather than learn how to use WordPress or Drupal or Joomla. It's cheaper and easier for them to pay me to do their updates anyway.

      Some clients get me to build them a WordPress site then still don't do their own updates but get me to do them!

      You can also turn your WordPress into HTML, that is what I am asking about here. I have found few blog with very frequently content updations. Those blogs are in WP platform their URLs have HTML extensions.
