Hello Smarties! good to be here.
here am with my questions. I have decided move my domains ( 5 of them) to Hostgator where I have account. The told they will move my hosts for free, but I also have subdomains on those domains. And they don't want move them for free. It turns I need to pay a lots of money to do it.
Those blogs have a little traffic, I was going to generate better traffic once I move them. So I can not give up on them. Also I was surprised that hostgator told me I have to extend my existing 5 Cpanel account to 5 more. I don't think I need it becouse of the space I have there. It is not resseler account. Question is, do they try to squeze more money out of me for additional accounts ( cpanels) or there is not possible to move to new place as addons?
Also is here anyone can help me move one sub so I can learn how to do it ?:confused:I would give a reward for it.
Begging to give me a hand.

I assume you have at least the Baby package with Hostgator. They do allow you to host 'a large number of' domains', as well as subdomains. I think the issue they have with is in the moving of the subdomains themselves. In any case, there is NO reason to pay anything more for the subdomains.

Now if hostgator will not move the domains... it can still be done, but you need to realize that you 'may' incur up 72 hours of downtime in the worst case, though with a little bit of planning you should be able to get by with only 30 mins to an hour. It does depend on the site as well.

Hostgator can move my domains for free. But they want to move them into new 5 empty C panels. I don't see neccessaty as I have a plenty of space yet. But maybe they right, I need more space or more C-panels.
      1) After I download my domains on the computer will subdomains go automaticly or I have to download them too?
      Thanks. I cheered up
      2) do I have to point DNS after or before transferring files?
      to NeutroHost:
what do you mean by "Download this file to your computer (from memory it is in tar.gz or just .gz".?? it is in tar.gz or just .gz I don't know what are you talking about
      to NowIstheTime:
I don't worry about time I will do 1 domain in one time. I think if I create my subdomain folders before.

what do you mean by that?
My other question is when I create folders for subdomains and when I ready to upload my subdomain folders in those folders will it looks like folder " cruz" in folder " cruz". Or all files of "cruz" go only into "cruz" so there will be just one folder? I hope I am understandable.

    Heya,

Backups are easy to do. Head over to cPanel, under the Files tab, select "Backups", then "Download or Generate a full website backup".

Download this file to your computer (from memory it is in tar.gz or just .gz).

Head over to HostGator's cPanel and go to the same section (Files > Backups), but this time look for "Restore a Home Directory Backup". Upload your file and cPanel will handle the rest.

All there's left to do is create your subdomains under Domains > Subdomains and you should be done.

Note: The new subdomain names that you create must be exactly the same as before. When you previously created a subdomain in your old host, cPanel creates a folder in public_html with the same name. On your new host, this subdomain name must match the folder for your subdomain files to work.

Now onto Hostgator not letting you move all 5 domains. From their plans on their website you will need at least a Baby plan to host 5 domains as Hatchling has a limit of 1 domain.

    Hope that helps!

You do not need Addon domains to host your subdomains. If you are looking to just recreate your subdomains, then just create them from your coanel like the previous poster instructed you. If you do have unlimited subdomains, then you should be fine.

Which plan do you have at hostgator? I really don't see any need for multiple cPanels.

    1. the subdomains and main domains have to be manually setup at the new place, and you will have to go to godaddy or whereever you 'registered' the domains and 'point' the domains to hostgator. Don't worry, this is easy to do.

    2. One good way is to transfer the files first, especially if you have a lot of traffic coming to the site.

    3. When 'downloading' the site files and database information, the files are zipped together in TAR - GZIP format, which is used more often on UNIX/Linux systems, similar to ZIP or RAR used in windows.

I am with SEOhosting. 5 cpanels all have accounts already but just a few. Do I have to first point domain then do transferring?
How to transfer files? There mayby 3-400 of them< do every single plugin and post and other manually? Or transfer by folders?

For clarification, as SEOHosting is also owned by hostgator....

You currently have your sites at SEOHosting and are planning on moving them to the main hostgator service correct? If so, which of hostgator's packages have you signed up for or are planning to sign up for?

In any case, it should still be straightforward enough to move the files & domains over.

But I'm just curious. Why were the domains hosted at SEOHosting in the first place? And what is the reason for you wanting to switch to the main Hostgator company's service now?

Ho I am not on seo yet with THOSE SITES. Like I said I have account with SEO. my sites s....t knows where - super slow. I am thinking to move them have not done anything yet, I am affraid after downloading I might upload subdomains wrong. Seo will upload only main domains. For some reason I don't trust them . There so many files and they looks mixed to me. What they can understand? Do I have to change DNS first, and then start down and uploads.
after I 'd be done I will where DO NOT HOST EVER.

Ok... I think I see why we were confused when you said you were 'moving to hostgator'. SEOHosting IS a hostgator company, but most people here use the main hostgator company, which you can find here:
Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, and Dedicated Servers - Website Hosting w/ cPanel - HostGator

At hostgator, ALL the domains & Subdomains can be and are managed from a single cPanel, and you do not PAY ANYTHING more for any more domains or subdomains, just the flat monthly fee.

You'll find 3 packages here, and most people select the "Baby Gator" package. And I feel that maybe the one that suits you well.

Is there any reason you want to pay $35 at SEOHosting for 5 domains each managed from a different CPanel, rather than $5-7 / month for unlimited domains managed from a single cPanel?

We kind off gone away from my questions. I don't understand "Download this file to your computer (from memory it is in tar.gz or just .gz".?? it is in tar.gz or just .gz ?????

Well you did ask for help from the "Smarties"... goes to show the "Smart Alecks" are always right behind...

But seriously, it was necessary to confirm which host you were moving to, in order to better help you, as there is a definite difference between SEOHosting and hostgator which you initially stated.

My last question was really for your benefit as well, to make sure you were really getting value for your money, as you seemed to be asking very basic questions

Anyway, you seem to know what you want as far as the multiple IPs are concerned, but I can't help myself from offering this one suggestion regarding this. In case the reason you are afraid of putting all your website "eggs" in one IP Address "basket" is for SEO reasons, be sure to ask SEOHosting to provide you each address from as different IP Ranges as possible, as google is on to the fact that people will split their sites among various IP addresses for better link points.

Anyway, I guess that's the end of my off-topic help

Now regarding NeutronHost's advice to backup your site via the following method:
"Download this file to your computer (from memory it is in tar.gz or just .gz".?? it is in tar.gz or just .gz ?????

What he is referring to is... There should be an option in your current hosting provider's cPanel called BACKUP. Click on the option and you will get options to either : "Download or Generate a full website backup" or to backup individual websites and individual databases.

Oftentimes you will see backups already available, or at least an option to 'create' a backup NOW for each site and/or database. These backups will be delivered to you via a compressed file. Now this '*.gz or *.tar.gz that NeutronHost mentioned are two compression formats used on UNIX, very similar (but better) than the ZIP format commonly used in DOS.

But at any rate, most warriors here can help you with questions on moving to hostgator/hostmonster/bluehost/etc. which provide a single cpanel for all your sites and an IP address for your sites which is 'shared' with other customer's sites on these providers.

Your situation on SEOHosting is a little different (5 unique IPs and 5 cPanels to do with as you please), and will require more planning on how you want to best make use of them over the long term.

    Take Care and good luck!
